Jim Ross Not Interested In Chris Benoit Biopic!

Jim Ross says he has no interest in seeing the final days of Chris Benoit re-told in a new big screen ‘biographical thriller’, entitled Crossface.

When asked for comment on the upcoming movie, he tweeted, “No thoughts…no interest…too sad.”

He added, “I was asked my opinion re: potential Beniot movie. I gave my opinion, did ‘man’ up. Have no interest reliving the tragedy. I lost 3 friends.”

SRG Films announced Saturday formal plans to produce a film based on the life of the deceased former wrestler, which will be adapted from Matthew Randazzo’s book Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry. Production is tentatively scheduled to begin next fall.

I'd have to agree I'd have no interest in watching this either. I'll never agree with, condone or even understand the terrible things Benoit did at the end of his life, but a movie like this would only focus on those bad things and forget everything he did with his life and career before hand. Just be another monster movie.

Hamsterboy, I don't see where you got the "keeping your head buried in the sand" thing. I agree that it would be in poor taste to make a movie about it. Those last couple of days are really just one part of a story and I think a movie about it wouldn't really do anything. It seems (seemed) pretty cut and dry as to what happened. It wasn't like Beniot was some "movie pyscho" like Freddy or Jason Voorhies. I think it would be like making a movie on Hulk Hogan and focusing on his sons drunk driving arrest or a movie about Eddie and focusing on his steriod use. There's a lot to the story and while it did end horribly, I don't need to see a movie about it.

I agree. Wouldn't have any interest in watching this movie. I'm not even sure why someone would want to make a "based on real events" movie that focuses on a man killing his wife and child, and then taking his own life.

Pretty tasteless, IMO.

I don't blame the WWE at all for "keeping their heads buried in the sand" as you say. The bottom line is that the man killed his wife, his son and then himself. In the end the number of outraged fans wanting to see Benoit matches are going to be outweighed by the number of outraged people that will think that the WWE is condoning his actions by showing his matches. The fact that the WWE showed a 3-hour tribute to the man and found out the real situation as it was airing really gave them a black-eye in the PR department. He is persona non grata in the utmost sense.

i dont want to see a movie about it either, i see no point in it but he was a great performer his whole life and i liked what he did in the ring. ok what he did was terrible but he also did a lot of good things i believe and it is sad that as hamsterboy says it gets buried by the wwe. i am in between corners here. in a way i want like a figure of him because he was a great performer and a guy i actualy liked seeing but then he killed his family and all and should i still support him? i dont know, it is sad. i would be more then happy to get a mattel figure out of him but am i a bad person when i get one? its hard.

Honestly the WWE is doing the only thing it can do. It's a publicly held company that says it's main audience is children. You in no way, shape or form want to be attached to a man who murdered his family. I can understand why they do it, but understand the other side of the coin too. Beniot was one of the guys that got me back into watching wrestling during his ECW and WCW days. I enjoyed watching him perform and grow. I loved when he became the WCW champ and hated the fact that he jumped to the WWF/WWE but I still watched him.

As for merch, well if you really want it, it's out there. There was a lot of stuff that was made prior to his death and you can find it if you look. It might suck (to you and others) that Mattel will never make a Beniot figure, but that's the breaks.

How crap like this gets greenlit is beyond me. I agree they will just sensationalise the murders. Pathetic.

I watched a medical program about brain disease and they had a Benoit episode. That told everything you needed to know and didn't resort to cheap shots and tabloid style BS.

Benoit's brain was badly damaged for a good while before he did what he did.

Unfortunately, I could see this being omitted in a movie, or just touched on briefly.

I remember I used to have the Benoit documentary on disk, and he seemed like a guy that was so into family and the business. I don't condone what he did, but I think a lot of factors led to him doing what he did and I don't believe him to be some sort of monster as I'm sure he'll be portrayed in a movie like this. You can just imagine the scenes where it looks like the evil is brooding inside him until he finally snaps. I really hope if they do go through with this, that they don't take that route.

What I meant about the WWE having their head in the sand, you would have thought they would have known something would go wrong with him always using the headbutt from the top rope. They knew he was using that move for years, you would think they would have looked into it. They were banning or limiting the use of other moves left and right at the time.
