2012 Subs Reopening 9/16-10/3, Plus New MOTU 30th Anniv. Sub

Subscription Sale Period

Friday, September 16th at 9 a.m. PT through Monday, October 3rd at 11:59 p.m. PT

Subscription Information

There are no differences between the subscriptions we previously offered and those we'll sell starting September 16th, and the new MOTU 30th Anniversary Series subscription will operate similarly. Complete product pages will be live soon with all the specifics, but here's a summary of each. There's a lot of important information, so please read all the details.

MOTUC Club Eternia®

Club Eternia is going to be better than ever for 2012! Purchase a membership to Club Eternia for $20 and you’re guaranteed to receive all of the monthly Masters of the Universe® Classics figures released during the year. You’ll also receive club-exclusive Shadow Weaver (our first-ever Filmation character!) and an all-new bonus map poster of Preternia. Figures revealed to date are Sorceress® (January), Fisto™ (February) and Kobra Kahn™ (March). The multipack revealed to date is Princess of Power® Star Sisters™ (Starla™, Jewelstar™ and Tallstar™) that also includes Glory Bird.

Since we launched the MOTUC line in 2008, while costs have risen we've worked hard to hold prices for 6" figures at $20 each. For 2012, prices for figures purchased through the subscription will remain as previously advertised ($20 for 6" figures, $30-$60 each for beasts/variants/multi-packs). We're finalizing the numbers now, but figures and other items sold outside the subscription during our monthly sales at MattyCollector.com will definitely be higher. If you don't already have a subscription, you'll want to get one when they're re-opened on September 16th to lock in the 2008 pricing!

MOTU 30th Anniversary Series

By fan demand, we're offering a subscription to the six very special figures we'll be releasing approximately every other month in 2012 in celebration of MOTU's 30th anniversary! Each figure will be a new character created just for the MOTUC line, including Fearless Photog (the winner of the 1985 Create a Figure Contest by Nathan Bitner) and Draego Man by the Four Horsemen. Of the remaining figures, two will be from Mattel, one from Geoff Johns (famed creative director from DC Comics), and the final figure is planned to be the winner of the current Create a Character Contest.

Because this series was created as part of the year-long anniversary celebration, we've been given permission from management to also offer these figures to subscribers for the 2008 price of $20 each (plus shipping/taxes/fees), but the price will be higher for figures sold outside the subscription at MattyCollector.com during our monthly sales (pricing to be announced). If you love MOTU, it's the best way to ensure you'll receive every one of the MOTU 30th Anniversary Series special releases at the lower price. You can get this subscription whether you have a subscription to Club Eternia or not, but purchasing both ensures you'll receive every MOTUC figure released in 2012, plus you'll save on shipping!

Thanks for posting this Toyman. Some interesting stuff here.

We knew it was coming, but I still don't care for the price hike. If I thought it would be reasonable, I'd be more understanding, but it won't be reasonable. I'm guessing $25, which would be a 25% markup. Surely it won't be higher than that, but who knows with Mattel. Either way, this is probably the beginning of pricing people out the way they've done with much of their retail stuff.

Of course they're going to make it sound good when they talk about MOTUC not increasing in price despite their retail lines increasing, but they don't mention how overpriced these figures were to begin with compared to other action figures. DCUC figures were $10 when MOTUC started. By comparison now, $20 for MOTUC isn't that much when you look at the $15 DCU. They also don't mention how production has increased since MOTUC started and figures have continued to sell out. They can spin it how they want, but Mattel isn't hurting by selling MOTUC at $20.

They delivered the 30th Anniversary Sub like fans asked, so that's a good thing. I'm not sure if I'll do that or not. They would claim it's informational, but using the price hike to encourage more sub sales is more underhanded stuff from Mattel. They can't ever just say, "Hey, the sub is for sale. Buy if you want." It has to be, "If you don't buy, you'll be sorry (because they won't make the figures or you'll have to pay more or you won't be able to buy the figures yourself on sale day)." Annoying.

I am guessing Draego Man will still be altered...

Glad i don't have to get onlineevery other month for these figures now. guess they are kind of threatening the fans out of collecting though. If things do not improve 2012 might be it for me. I love the line but the push of everything is just getting old

So what happened to Toy Guru saying only DC would be price hiked.... @loll@ wow I think I may be out as a complietest after 2012...Just to much stuff I don't want so far. And over load now with the 30th stuff. I am on the fence if I will even order that one.

The 30th sub is being offered as a standalone as well, fyi. I'm tempted to sign up just for this. I'm holding back only because I know I'll be ordering stuff on sale days next year and I'd hate to pay shipping twice.

On that same note, this is some potentially promising info from Matty:

For those of you who are hesitant to get a subscription because you want to combine subscription figures with other items purchased during the monthly sales to save on shipping, please know that we've heard your requests and the team is working hard to figure out a way to do this. There's nothing to announce yet (and no guarantees), but if you're on the fence we encourage you to consider purchasing a subscription so you don't miss out on the lower subscription prices. Then if we're able to offer the combined shipping, it's an added benefit.

Obviously, huge grain of salt there. Nothing is guaranteed with DR and Matty. ;)

as always a lot seem to take it the wrong way. no one is forcing someone into the sub. toyguru said what will happen and thats it. do you guys prefer that it comes as a surprise the day they sell the figs on matty?? i guess not. if you want the line to go the next few years then something must be done. money is needed. sadly it isnt a line that goes well in the shops. so mattel needs a certain amount to produce them. are you in or out. thanks that a lot seem to be in for the sub or the line would be allready dead if you ask me. i know i can talk but a motuc figure is way cheaper for me then a star wars figure that goes for 15 euro around here. thats 20 usd for a 3 3/4 insh figure.

I second this notion.

Very well said.

I'm also "on the fence" concerning the 30th anny figs.

I'm hoping the will give detailed info on whether or not Draego Man will remain as it appeared at the con.

Well I ordered the 30th sub, only because I don't want to have to log into matty on sale days unless it's something not included in any sub.

As for the price increase, look we all knew it had to happen at some point and from what I read it won't be terrible. Toy Guru said that the numbers are not finalized yet but the increase for MOTUC on sale days in 2012 will be anywhere between $1.00-$5.00

Now if this also includes beasts and army builder multi packs than thats not too bad. We all hate that there will be a price increase and we don't agree with it because we like the lower price, but times are changing and costs to manufacture are going up. UPS, Fed-Ex they went up on their shipping cost, Mattel is saying the cost for raw material to manufacture the figures has gone up so eventually we all knew deep down this was comming and Mattel has been hinting at it for 6 monthes now.

ToyGuru and his team have not raised the cost to us even though Mattel Managment wanted the price increase over a year ago. I guess the only way managment let them keep the $20.00 figure cost was to raise it for day of sale and let subscribers stay at current price. Even if we pay $25.00 a figure on sale days it's still cheaper than secondary market prices like ebay and online toy stores.

Guys I have stated this before & I will state this again ... when prices go up for us cherry pickers they will go up for the subs as well ... You can expect to pay at least the same price as us cherry pickers by the next sub & when that happens the price will go up even higher(again) for us cherry pickers to make it seem like you will be getting a deal

You can bet it will be $5, not $1, that they increase by. They're going to go for the absolute max that they think they can get away with just like they did when they first announced MOTUC would cost $20. It's annoying that they'd even suggest they're considering a one-dollar increase. So now with shipping (and tax for people like me) fans are looking at $35 for one figure. Like they say on the Price Is Right when they're playing That's Too Much, "That's too much!"

A 25% markup is pretty ridiculous, but in a country where gas jumps 100% in a matter of months, it's no wonder Mattel wants to take everyone to the cleaners, too.
