Thundercats classic 8 inch LION-O figure review and warning

Recommended Posts

Let me start this off by asking, does the toy industry think collector means sucker????? I've noticed a lot through these past couple of years that when it says collector it usually falls short of what it should be and this is no exception! iI should make ot clear that it doesn't say collector anywhere on the box but we all know most of the people who decide to but this will be the ones who grew up with it and are willing to pay the 16.97 to 20 dollars to get it. so let me pick apart this piece of plactic crap ban-di calls lion-o.

the sculpt, well i don't have any complaints there. the articulation great except the head needs a lot of work. the paint it's good but they could of used a wah over his muscles to give him more of a defined look and more detail. the two parts that burn mre is the wrist ball joints are orange instead of the whitish tan of his hans, how hard would it have been to cast those in the same color. the boots are painted blue but they left the hinge orange so it looks like he has orange strips on his boots with a orange dot on either side of his boot. what really pisses me off is that we know that this is marketed towards the adult collector and they used that really cheap rubber plastic for the sword. you know the kind if you bend the sword it'll never be straight again. and you almost have to bend it to get it out of the plastic unless you cut it out. here's the kicker they used the hard rigid plastic they should have used for his hair!!!!!!!! I mean come on bandi it's a toy for adults. i'm not asking for a metal sword but one that can with stand the wind from bending it in half would be nice! this is supposed to be for collectors not little kids. i know i wouldn't buy this for my kids i'd buy the ones from the new cartoon cause those r for the kids. i don't know if they were in a rush to put these out for christmas but you really blew it. I can't tell you how excited i was standing in my wal-mart tonight and seeing thundercats on the shelf again and then buying one just like i had as a kid almost. i thought i had a great figure only to find out once out of the package it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope that the company fixes the mistakes in this figure but probably not. so i'm going to send them an email anyway to ask. but to my fellow collectors i had to warn you guys if your going to buy this and leave it in the package great but if you open it up be prepared to be disappointed or spend many hours customizing it to correct bandi's mistakes. i'll end my review by saying"THUNDR THUNDER THUNDERCATS HOOOOOOOOOLY CRAP IT SUCKS!"

i got the standard form letter from bandai stating they pass along my email to quality control but i don't think it'll make a diffewrence unless more people complain. considering this is a toy geared towards collectors making a rubber sword and the paint flaws are i dont even know what to say cept what i've said b4 it sucks!

I like him and think all of the figures look great. I think as collectors we get spoiled, these are toys for kids not mini works of art. These little guys (both the 4" and 6" ) have great possibility and sculpts. They actually look like their TV counterparts yet are fun to mess with, as a kid I would have eaten this toyline up. But to each their own, if the quality isnt up your standards then I understand your comments and appreciate a different point of view from my own.

I just got my SDCC one in the mail today and I love it. I like the color a lot and he has great articulation. The different colored joint dont bother me one bit. You said something about your Lion-o's sword being really flimsy, but my SDCC one's sword is really strong. Neither of them will bend one bit. Overall I'm very glad I bought mine.

the retail version sn the SDCC version of the Sword of Omens are different. The retail version is grey and flimsy like a putty plastic and the SDCC version is hard plastic and has a chrome look

Yeah, the sword is very disappointing. The short sword isn't all that bad, but the full length one is hurt by the soft plastic. I've never seen such an awful use of soft plastic. The vintage toy had a sword made of soft plastic as well, but it wasn't as bad as this one. The figure itself is great though.

This line had the potential to be better than MOTUC... Too bad a few issues is keeping it back...

Going to retail and having a cartoon did give them the potential to beat MOTUC or exceed them but they blundered out of course.

The classics should of been 6 inches in line with DCUC and Marvel legends, that lone would get potential buyers who like or buy figures because they go along with other lines. Look how many people bought ML just to make DC customs and vice versa, people would of done the same for Tcats.

Then you can potentially get vehicles that go along with both the new series and the classics if they were all in scale, chances of seeing vehicles for the super large 8 inch line are slim to none.

I am now hoping we can eventually get to Mumm Ra, haven't heard any news past Lion O and Tygra.

I got mine today. Lion O is bad ass like I said when I saw him at TRU. Tygra while he has grown on me, the glossy paint must go. I am going to have to work with him some with some dull coat.

Im surprised the Classics line is doing so well. I thought there would be more negative reactions to it, but they have generally been positive. I didn't think we would get much beyond Lion-O and Tygra, but I am starting to think maybe we will get two more (common Cheetara and Panthro!)

Ive been hearing rumblings of Panthro and Mumra... so I had not heard of Cheetara! I'd rather get her first over Mumra.

It's tough to say, but if it was just Mum-Ra and Lion-O, Id be fine with it, but since we have Tygra, we need the rest of the cats before Mum-Ra, or else it will just feel unfinished

I am hoping they will redo Tygra if the line becomes successful...

That would be nice, unfortunately we've got a long way to go before we can declare any kind of success. I love the figures, seems like most do and it's hard to find in store. I'd say we are headed in the right direction.
