MOTUC Post-SDCC: Production on figures to go down and no re-issues in 2012

He-Fans and She-Ravers,

With the 2012 Club Eternia sale in full swing and our SDCC reveals past us, I wanted to take a quick minute to clear up some questions and comments from the boards.

1: First off, yes, we are no longer going to be doing a second run of figures. This will start with Queen Marlena and move into Man-E-Faces and the other fall figures. We still have some older figures already slotted for line time and a second run that will be offered monthly(ish) in 2012. But starting with the July/August figures there will no longer be second runs of newer figures (at least for now, anything could potentially change down the road). So if you want Marlena, now is the time to buy!

Additionally, in 2012 we will be reducing our production of all figures above and beyond the subs. We will still have product on sale day for those who do not have a sub, but in general there will be a bit less. Your first, best and most reliable way of getting the figures you want is to sign up for the sub (and the only way to get Shadow Weaver--our first Filmation character!). This will be the case for all subscriptions, not just MOTUC.

2: Our Mattypalooza fan panel is available on YouTube (just search Mattypalooza 2011) thanks to a few great fan sites. We will have the slides posted in a week or so, but you can watch the whole panel and the Q & A anytime online.

3: All of the figures revealed at SDCC are final sculpts. By the time you are seeing them, we are past the point of making any actual sculpt changes!

4: Keep those Create A Character contest entries coming! A ton have been coming in from all ages (the crayon entries from children are especially heartwarming!) But wow! Some of you sent in some great photos of custom figures while others have amazing concepts for toys regardless of the artistic level (which is all that really counts in this contest -- artistic skill is not a factor!).

All of the brand managers will do their best to check on the boards this week. Hopefully this will answer most of the questions out there and I just can't wait for how great 2012 will be!

"Figures were on the website for at least an hour, and despite DigitalRivers best efforts to have a confusing and underperforming website that kept freezing up with waitscreens, everybody who wanted a figure was getting one. This was unacceptable. Also, to reward scalpers and second market e-tailers, the maximum order amount has been bumped to 50 and online e-tailers get first dibs. We don't want to create panic, but well..we want to create panic. Basically order a subscription. Otherwise we can only assume you hate our toys and you hate America and you want both to fail. Shame on you."

is this an attempt to stir the pot and panic collectors into buying said figures right away its certainly not going to work with me ...

So, since they won't being doing re-issues on new figures, and they're decreasing the production of said figures, that means two things:

1 - Scalpers know people won't have a second chance to get figures, decreasing the likely-hood they'll have to sit on product if they buy too many...so they'll be maxing out on figures, and giving the rest of us less of a chance at getting them. I'm guessing popular characters like Man-E-Faces will sell out within the first hour or so.

2 - Buy a subscription, or get screwed on the secondary market.

Yippie.

That's been their mentality since the subscription first started.

"Blindly commit to several hundred dollars worth of figures, only knowing four or five of them, or else you won't get anything because this line is so rare and popular. But hey, you get a free map that's folded and unworthy of hanging!"

I guess my mentality is even if I have to pay $10 more on the secondary market for figures I want, that's better than spending 500+ and only knowing a small portion of what I'm gonna get for my money.

Maybe matty doesn't want my money? :P

Not really concerned about reissues since I get the Sub every year. Besides I usually end up picking up what I need @ BigBadToyStore.com. I'm only worried about the not included vehicle and Granamyr. If it's the Battle Ram I'll get the vehicle, otherwise I'll pass. I definitely want Granamyr.
