Ah, yes. "Visionary" Snyder. #yuk@#...how are we going to see lobster-claw Luthor and his army of zombiefreaks thru all the close-up shots of Supes dangly weiner?

Ha! I love it when I hear people mention Watchmen and all they can remember is a digital dong on screen! It's not even like it was real, it's just pixels on a screen! I remember sitting in the theater and hearing people giggle and snicker, like it was 4th grade health class or something. One guy in particular kept a nervous laugh the entire time, I thought "dude, you totally just outed yourself" There was nothing sexual about it, no kind of hard-on or even a raging semi, and that is still the only thing people can thing about. I guess it was a shock to people, even though it couldn't be more present in the comics (Snyder actually scaled it down a bit) I guess the idea of the character being so far removed from humanity that he no longer has use for clothes makes people nervous.

 

Snyder stays as close to the source material as he can, and he does not shy away from comic book projects, infact he embraces them. Comic fans are the hardest to please, and he brought an "unfilmable" comic to life that many considered impossible, so yeah, I trust him to put forth a good movie.

 

If Dr Manhattan's junk bothers people that much, blame Alan Moore, the guy who wrote it, not the guy who filmed it.

Funny you mention that, I had a similar discussion.

 

An "adult" mocked me because I wanted to see Green Lantern and, in his words, "skin tight bulging uniform." I assume you all can see where I'm going with this.

 

Two minutes later he said "Watchmen is the greatest movie ever," to which I reminded him of Dr. Manhattan's highly visible package. He didn't like my response.

 

Anyway, as some current and former members are too simple to figure out, superheroes aren't born in their costumes. The scene made sense as it appeared in the film.

Now forget Watchmen for a minute and defend 300 and Suckerpunch, and why with those on a resume you still feel Zack Snyder is the best to deliver the heart of Smallville, KS (or anything more than an expensive Nike commercial)

 

Not to stray too far off topic...the Perry White thing is baffling. Usually when traditionally white characters are colorblind recast, its either a case of blatant PCism and/or they hide it behind the defense of casting for actual talent. For once, im setting aside my colorblind casting gripes (I do really like you in most things Mr. Fishburne, but...) and saying that this is just plain bad character interpretation/direction.

 

But then again, i guess we wont know if it was a bad direction til we see it...and if the speed at which Suckerpunch jumped from theatre to video, see you on Netflix real soon, Supes

I can't really speak for Sucker Punch, haven't seen it, so I make no call on that. Now 300 I really enjoyed, and no, I haven't read the original material, but I thought the way it was executed was cool. It was a fun movie, good action, and really that is all I wanted out of 300, so I was satisfied. Where there a lot of slo-mo scenes? Absolutely, I wasn't expecting much, as far as plot goes, but I wanted to be visually entertained and I was. I will say though, not to get too off subject, that I really feel that the Dawn of the Dead remake was a big push for modern day zombie pop culture, a genre which I throughly enjoy.

 

Anyhow, back to Laurence, I am interested to see how he plays the character. Definitely not in my top 10, 20, or even 50 picks for the role, but an interesting choice.

I don't understand why metropolis needs to be in america? Why don't they have it be someplace else like Abu Dhabi or Hong Kong.

 

I'm also disturbed at the lack of handicapped characters represented in superhero movies... I would like to see a wheel chair Superman. I think that it would speak leaps and bounds for the handicapped community.

 

Frankly, I am greatly upset that there are so many white characters in these movies as well, what is this the 1940's, I think it would make a lot of people happy if the entire cast was made up of different ethnicities. I think then most people would enjoy them. I know i'd finally go to see one of these in the movie theaters. However because im sure the movie studios are too racist to make these changes noted above I'll be waiting this one out til netflix.

Didn't mean to offend friend, but he DID play superman and he WAS in a wheel chair. Most considered him a Superman no matter how you slice it, so nothing was said that wasn't true and I don't believe there was anything offensive out there, but like I said, didn't mean to offend you... but there was nothing mean or bad said. Just because someone is in wheelchair or disabled and they are made part of a joke, DOESN'T mean the joke is on them.
