Favorite Alcohol Beverages & What You Would Recommend Others To Try.

Recommended Posts

Let me start off by saying that this is an ADULT DISCUSSION and is intended for RESPONSIBLE DRINKING. ;)

In no way is this intended for under-aged youths (or over aged) to express how they get DRUNK. This is not what the topic is about.

So in other words, I don't want to hear about how EverClear gets you juiced, or how Wild Turkey makes you a "turkey", @chicken@ and how greatly it f@#%$ you up. That is not the point. This is about enjoying a freedom that is shared between many countries around the world. The freedom to enjoy a truly great alcohol beverage. ^_^

NOW with that said, I would like to share my opinions on great spirits that I enjoy.

BEER; I'm not much of a beer drinker, but there are only a few beers that I ever tasted that I seriously hated. For me, beer is beer, and there are many flavors and styles. My favorite is Bass. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_beer

I can drink that until the world ends.

WINE; I love red wine. My favorite is Cabernet Sauvignon by Robert Mondavi. My wife is totally alcohol free, but even she likes this brand. She has tried other red wines, but this one she will actually drink. Great with meals and excellent for making sauces and beef stews.

Whisky & Whiskey; There is a difference.

"Whisky" is rather specific to Scottish single malts and blends. I am a novice to Scotch and I truly love Johnnie Walker Black Label. I would have to say that if I was on death row, or on a stranded island, this is what I would want.

As far as bourbon "Whiskey", W.L.Weller is something I would highly recommend over most other Kentucky bourbons.

I will give further reviews and share my opinions if this thread progresses. Until them, tell us what YOU like.

If you dislike, tell us why and try to compare it with others like it. Our taste differ.

As someone who has been in the bar business in some capacity or another for 20 years, this topic has a warm place on my heart.

First, I wanted to throw out a couple of rules for drinking at a bar or restaurant.

1. The only place it is ever appropriate to order a frozen drink is in YOUR kitchen using YOUR blender. The only exception to this rule is if you have the ocean in your direct line of sight.

2. Don't whistle or snap your fingers, we aren't your dog.

3. Take care of the people taking care of you.

Alright, I'm off my soapbox. Back to the topic at hand.

Red Wines- one of my current favorites is a Spanish Red blend called Borsao, it goes great with any meal.

White Wines- My wife and I love Conundrum, a slightly buttery and sweet wine blend.

Beer- I always recommend staying away from anything served in a green or clear bottle because the light causes the flavor of the beer to change. Bass is great, Harp has a crisper finish to it, and Red Stripe is fun for drinking in the sun.

Vodka- My rule number 1 is that good vodka has to come from a country that is formerly communists, thus my love for Ketel One from Poland or Stoli from Russia. Also, if you are ordering your vodka with any kind of fruit juice, save your money and skip the Grey Goose, no one is impressed that you ordered Grey Goose.

Bourbon/Whiskey- Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, Booker's, Blanton's, Basil Hayden's, Jameson, Crown Royal Reserve. Pick one put over ice, enjoy.

I'm an odd ball I can't stand wine. I've never tasted a wine vie liked.

As far as liquor, if I drink it, Coke and capt Morgan. However I drink liquid non stop so rarely drink it.

Beer in do like. My favorites a Miller lite, Yengling, Molsen Golden.

Shots, kamikazes are pretty good.

There are many odd drinks out there. Some of them seem vocally offensive to even say, like "A Sloe Screw Against The Wall". http://cocktails.about.com/od/ginrecipes/r/sloe_screw.htm

There really is a single malt called "Orphan Tears". http://treebeard31.blogspot.com/2011/03/single-malt-orphan-tears.html

However, some people are thin skinned, so this video really offended some.

I hate beer & most wine I tend to like things like ciders like mikes hard things like that are more "pop-ish" in nature & actually have some flavor in them... I like rum & whiskey though as well as various mixed type drinks

Vodka plus energy drink... I prefer Rockstar or Red Bull...

I watched this thing on the news where a guy died by drinking energy drinks & various other drinks ... May want to look into that ... its happened to a few people now is my understanding

You may want to try some Johnnie Walker Red mixed w/Coke or Dr.Pepper. That is a smooth drink compared to most whiskeys.

As far as Rum, Sailor Jerry is the best I ever had. @cap@

This is unfortunately true. Mixing uppers with downers like alcohol can lead to some deadly side effects. Be careful!!

I need to cut down... I used to sit at the poker table for hours and throwing these down...

I found that the last thing anyone who has been drinking needs is a Red Bull and _______ (insert your liquor of choice). Years ago I was taught that anyone who is drunk doesn't need anything like coffee or energy drinks, because all this does is give you a drunk person who is awake.

Another bad idea is a round of shots at last call if you and your buddies have been at the bar all night, this is likely to get you thrown out of a taxi or somebody's car because you throw up in the car.

Now if your body is up to it and you know your limits, then that's different. Staying sharp at the poker table is paramount. However if you want a substitute, drink your Vodka with a caffeine based soda like Coke or Pepsi. You'll find that your decisions are less bold. Red Bull and other energy drinks boost the testosterone levels and that can effect your decisions as well. A false sense of confidence.

Captain Morgan and Coke but I haven't had a drink since my brothers wedding back in 1997

If you are not a drinker, then I would not advise you to start at your age. You have enough problems. ;)

However, if you like a rum and Coke in the future, get a small bottle (usually behind the counter) of rum and relax with some easy listening music.

Since I'm only 23 I haven't been drinking for very long. (Legally anyways) FIREdevil.gif

My favorite beers are Michelob Ultra and Miller light.

I've only tried three kinds of vodka Finlandia vodka, Russian standard vodka and Smirnoff. I like the flavored Smirnoff the best.

Who said anything about starting? I ended it and have never gone back to it

When it comes to beer I usually don't like it any lighter than an amber such as Sam Adam's Boston Lager or Newcastle, but I will drink a Bass, Blue Moon, or Harp occasionally. I prefer porters, stouts, oktoberfest, and winter lagers. Lefthand Milk Stout, Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Sweet Water Happy ending are some of my favorite beers. (And, to be fair I could keep going - I am a beer snob and have tried an enormous amount of different beer due to Taco Mac's passport/brewniversity club).

Whiskey/Bourbon - I stick to Jack Daniels or Gentleman Jack, Crown Royal or Crown Royal Cask 16, and Jameson or Bushmills Irish whiskeys. I prefer them on the rocks with a splash of water or mixed with ginger ale or sprite.

Red Wine - OLIVER

Scotch - THE GLENLIVET (12 yr or older; a good scotch for beginners, and a nice one to go back to), ABERLOUR (any age, any variety), BALVENIE (Double Wood 12)

Bourbon - MAKERS MARK, WELLERS (any age, any variety), ELMER T. LEE -- NOTE; I'm from Kentucky, so, I know a thing or two about bourbon.

Gin - HENDRICK'S, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE

Brandy - Haven't tried a lot, but CARLOS I

Sake - WAKATAKE DAIGINJO ONIKOROSHI

Rum - CRUZAN, RON ZACAPA

Tequila - DON JULIO BLANCO, LA CAVA DE DON AGUSTIN BLANCO

Beer - I won't touch the stuff. I've just never liked it. If I'm thirsty I'll drink a soda, if I want to celebrate, commiserate, or socialise, I go for the harder stuff because I don't want to spend most of my time at the urinal.

Call me weird, but I though of this on my own (however, I have since found out other people do something similar to this), I like making an alcoholic float/punch with vodka, Mountain Dew, and either orange sherbet or rainbow sherbet. I probably just lost all cred by sharing that.

My favorite beer is Killian's, Red Stripe and the regular light beers like Bud and Coors.

Vodka is my hard drink of choice usually mixed with just about anything. I typically use fruit juice or any type of soda pop. Jack/Rum mixed with coke is also a favorite of mine. Im pretty simple when it comes to alcohol.

You guys should try a gin and tonic mixed with a little urine. I haven't tried it but I hear it's good. Lmk how it taste.

I hear it's called Crunked Over Juice (not to be confused with the "Crunk"). Some say it's good for a failing libido or impotence. I'm not that adventurous, but I bet it taste a lot like piss. If you are trying this for medicinal purposes, let us know if it works. @smilepunch@

Coors Lt.

@loll@

Seriously, that's about the only thing I drink.

Hard alcohol doesn't suit me, because of the way I drink (not just alcohol, but pop, water, juice, etc)...I chug it down. If I open a pop, it's usually gone within 5 minutes, if not sooner.

From a perspective of taste, I do enjoy Captain Morgan and Dr. Pepper (mmm...yummy), and Pendleton...even if they don't agree with the way I drink. Actually, I don't mind most whiskeys...same with rum.

Vodka and tequila are ALWAYS off limits for me. Vodka, even though the taste doesn't bother me, pretty much guarantees pukage. Tequila makes me weird (yes, even more than I normally am). Another one I hate is gin...taste like pine needles to me.

Even though I don't like gin, I LOVE Long Island Ice Teas...but these go horrible with my chugging personality, given the amount of alcohol in them. I love the taste of them though.

I'm what most text books would call a "binge drinker." I can live without alcohol, and have no withdrawal symptoms, but love to get drunk. I can go a few weeks without drinking, and have done so regularly in the past, but I do usually get tuned up once or twice a week, and it's usually on nights when I plan on extended sessions of playing guitar or video games (I guess those would be my triggers, for you psychologists out there). I don't ever drink casually...I drink to get drunk.

For beer outside of Coors Lt...even though that's 99.9% of the time, I don't mind Miller Lt. or Kokanee. Any Budweiser product pretty much guarantees a bad morning sitting on the toilet the next day. @lol@
