Batman Dooms The JLA In Next Animated Feature

Reported by JayC

Daily Blam reports that it was announced at Wondercon this past weekend, the next animated feature film to be released by DC Comics and Warner Home Entertainment will be called "Justice League: Doom.", or at least that is the current working title for it.

The film is planned to loosely adapt the storyline JLA: Tower of Babel by Mark Waid from the JLA comic arc found between issues #43-46. In the comic, the always-prepared Batman compiles files on his fellow Leaguers, including their weaknesses, only to have them stolen by Ra's Al Ghul who in turn uses them to defeat the Justice League of America one by one.

No casting announcements have been made as of yet and it is slated to see released in early 2012.

If 'Knights, the Bat, the Cat and the League can't take the nasty taste of "All-Star Superman" out of my mouth, nothing will! @smilepunch@

I didn't see All Star but I really wanted to... till I read the reviews. There have been some good ones, but there have been some bad ones too, namely Gotham Knights (didn't care for it) and whatever that Green Lantern one was with the guy from Law and Order doing Hal.. man that was boring.

It would be interesting to see how Ra's Al Ghul goes about taking the JLA down.

Try reading the comics!

I know these writers are lazy but, would it really kill them to put out an original story? Animation is usually fine, I'm sure they're gonna mess with the costumes as they usually do.

Doesn't anyone want to see original content, storylines, maybe even new characters??? Not only are these storylines already done but you can walk into any 3 for a dollar bin and pick up the comics or order the trade paperback, why do we need more lazy stories??

PS. Yes, Tower of Babel storyline was an excellent story.

The answer is real simple, bet on a winner. It the comics sold really well, and there are already award winning stories out there, why not put those in animation form? And even when you have a winning story, it can still bomb (see AllStar Superman)

You probably missed it on your trips to the 3 for a dollar bin, but the whole idea behind these movies was always to take DC's greatest stories and turn them into adult animated movies. I always thought that was a cool idea, as there are a lot of great stories out there.

Well if that's the stated purpose of DC's animation dept, then that's fine by me. I just assumed they would be coming up with original content. I can understand the ocassional story adaption, but there havn't been a whole lot of these that i actually enjoyed in the animated format.

I actually enjoy seeing some of my favorite DC story arcs in animated format. That is part of the draw for me. New story content is fine, but as it currently is I have enjoyed all of the stories. Even All Star Superman, I enjoyed that one too.

Thanks for the advice, but no thanks. I don't really buy comics anymore outside of the occasional TPB. I'm more of a figure and movie collector these days. So for me the story having already been done well in the comics just means I have more incentive to buy the movie.
