Stephen Sommers Not Directing G.I.Joe 2

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't mind Shumacher... Who did Black Hawk Down? I want a dark and gritty Joe movie!!!

Shumacher put nipples on Batman, remember?

Ridley Scott directed Black Hawk Down--doubtful that he'd go for something as lowbrow as GIJOE.

His brother Tony Scott might, but maybe Peter Berg might also. Berg directed The Kingdom, which I thought was an excellent and cerebral enough action flick.

The thing to remember, GIJOE isn't dark and gritty, and Somners' version is about as "dark and gritty" as we are ever likely to see it.

this is great news...

but I think that most of the movie's potential actually rests on the shoulders of the screenwriters.

it's not like they had a great story and Sommers just screwed it up. That movie was crappy from the get go.

I predict this movie will sit in lombo for so long that after a while they won't even be talking "sequil" as much as they'll be talking "reboot" (If anything). If the company were rushing to get this out, we'd at least be hearing some pre-production news by now.

Fine with me. I know, I know.....on paper the film was a "sucess", but I don't even hear Joe FANS calling for this sequil to get made.
