Hasbro Q&A Session With The G.I.Joe Brand Team

The figures will be offered in the Pursuit of Cobra line and will have the highly-detailed, realistic look of the line.

Ahem, so we can officially call BULLSH*T on the nitwits (and they know who I'm staring right at) that swore up and down the Renegades figures were going to be the animated style and would suck because of that. Looks like it was just more "upstaging" that didn't pan out as well as they hoped, LOL!

Hasbro: G.I. Joe product inspired by characters and themes from the upcoming G.I. Joe Renegades series on the Hub will be available in Fall 2011. The figures will be offered in the Pursuit of Cobra line and will have the highly-detailed, realistic look of the line.

yeah, that is great news! I don't know if I am one of the nitwits.. but I was saying all along it would be a stupid move to make them in the animated style!

good job Hasbro on realizing this (even if you didn't when you put out the Wolverine and the X-men line and the Ironman cartoon line)

Im sure those people simply got their information from Hasbro at last years Joecon. I was there for the Hasbro roundtable, they said the figures would be in the animated style and POC would end. My guess is that sales have been so good for POC that the big wigs had the design team change gears. Now they can keep POC going strong using animated designs in POC style until POC morphs into the next movie line.

Well, I was actually hoping that the Renegades figures would be like the "Clone Wars" figures of GI Joe-less realistic, more cartoony. Then I would have an easier time passing on them. Which would be good for me because I will soon be very low on money. If they keep up with the current awesomeness of the POC figures, I don't know what I'll do!

The person I'm referring to came across as implying they had exclusive insight into the figures, irrespective of anyone else at the time......and no reference was made of the roundtable being the source of their info. They actually GUARDED their "source", which would make no sense if it was indeed the roundtable.

But, in any case, its moot now and the actual revelation is exciting. I am absolutely delighted that the styling will continue because POC has been just fantastic to collect.

I get a good chuckle at these types myself. How pathetic must ones life really be, that professing to be an "insider" of all that is known in the world of Hasbro and G.I.Joe related news, is the chosen compensation to it?

Reminds me of the short man...big jacked-up pick-up truck syndrome. @haha@

Its done though, my momentary gloat is spent.

In hind-sight, I think the investment into the detailed styling of POC was probably going to dictate the styling of Renegades figures anyway, because why switch gears between the two when they are in the same scale?

It made no sense then (and I said as much) and going with an animated look makes no sense now.

As an aside......anyone here look at the NYCC Marvel Universe photos about a week or so ago, and specifically the Captain America toy line photos?

Notice Cap's new wheels?

Tell me......does that not look like a sleeker, sexed-up VAMP being re-purposed in Captain America colours? Me thinks that's our first look at a actual Renegades vehicle ( in another guise, of course).......and yeah...........its looking pretty good.

This is the designing trend I have seen hints of since.......well, DTC. The RHINO was a good example, the new HISS.....there's a really modern aesthetic in play here, and I think its overdue.

That Renegades VAMP ( and I'm going to SPECULATE that it is) is sleek, but functional and MODERN.......and dare I say "sexy" looking. Its got the right amount of realism and outlandish, which is the charm of POC thus far.

Yea, I'm a shameless mark, and I cannot help it.

I love the fact that Hasbro mentioned in one of the other sites questions that people need to move on from the whole 25th anniversary thing already, and how it's been four years and we need to get ready for the 30th anniversary stuff. Finally, someone in Hasbro is speaking what I've been thinking. All those people that thought that just because the 25th line was dead, it meant that their favorite iconic character from the 80's would never see a new plastic form, they can all calm down now.

Yeah...who isn't going to grab this dude to marry in with the Joe line?

With a new color scheme, this will definitely be a mark for me as well.

Even if I'm dead wrong in my guess, that ride and a can or three of spray paint would make for an AWESOME GI Joe vehicle.

And now that you mention it, Crossbones would be a great fit for COBRA too--I have a Hand Ninja already worked into my COBRA forces, so CB would work just as well.

Close, but still quite a bit different?

oh wow.. it does look really different now... I mean I can see how they could swap fenders and the bumper.. but the back end is also different... (unless they cut out the rear fender for the wheels on the Cap version)

it's more like they both had the same idea of what they wanted, but they each made their own anyways.

I don't think they are the same body, after seeing those pictures.

Good news on the "style" of the Renegades line. I admit I'm kind of surprised that Hasbro didn't go the Clone Wars route, but they probably know better than most that the Joe collector audience is already too small to create the same kind of "divide" that has happened with Star Wars between the Clone Wars and "Vintage" figures (not that there aren't plenty of people that collect both). That, and I recalled that Hasbro wanted to make the Clone Wars figures in the "realistic" style but Lucasfilm overruled them.

Anyway, as someone pointed out above, the other upside (From Hasbro's perspective) of "keeping it real" with Renegades is that it expands upon (and can draw from) the big catalog of parts they already have for the Joe line. Small though the line may be (albeit apparently going to get larger now), it's clear a good chunk of cash went into the scads of new tooling for PoC. Hasbro isn't going to want to completely jettison it.

Geez, next year is going to be painful for ye olde wallet: Cap, Thor, more PoC, and continuing Marvel Universe (and maybe an X-Men line to tie into First Class, but I kinda doubt it at this point). At least I managed to wean myself off of Star Wars this year and thankfully have never been a big Transformers fan (who also have a movie next year).

I'd add Green Lantern, but unless Mattel REALLY steps up their game with the 3.75" scale offerings (compared to Infinite Heroes) I'll likely be passing on them.
