Star Wars VHS question

Did they ever make the original, NON-special edition version of the original trilogy available on VHS in widescreen form?

Yes, they did. One in 92 and then again in 96.

If so, where can I find one?
Have you checked eBay? There are a couple on there. One that is ending tonight that has zero bids for $8. Here

I'm pretty sure they never had anything but the Special Edition on DVD, right?
The theatrical versions were released on DVD in a "Limited Edition" in 2006. But they were more or less just extra features with the SE versions. The quality wasn't as good since they're the LaserDisc versions (better than VHS though) and I don't know if they are in widescreen or not. The movies were released both individually and in a 2008 box set.

Yeah, those are the ones I own, they are not widescreen and the quality is definately NOT good.

I checked the link for the auction you provided but in the description it says they're the "Special Edition".

No, that's just eBay's description and they have it wrong. That is the THX version. Which was the digitally restored version released in 96 before the SE in 97. While I don't own the widescreen version I do have the full and they look like that.

Ahhh...yes, I've seen those versions before, I just always assumed they were Special Edition.

I just want to watch the originals on my big TV and see the whole picture. I know the quality won't be as good....saddly I don't think we'll ever see them on DVD or blu ray since George seems to think they're "inferior".
