Anyone have Viper squads made up of one man

I assume most of us think of Viper squads as units with multiple members. That's why people army build. But does your Joeverse (meaning your own private GI Joe fantasy world that exists nowhere but inside your head) have any Viper squads that are made up of just ONE man?

For me SAW Viper is the one and only SAW Viper there is. This basically stems from the Marvel GI Joe comic where a SAW Viper mows down a half dozen Joes. He was written as an a-moral bad @$$ and I believe he was the only SAW Viper they ever used in the series.

I also imagine that the Crimson Guard Immortal is the only one of his kind. Seems kinda redundant to have your elete guards (the CGs) and then have an elete, ELETE version of them.

I bring this up because I'm thinking the new Jungle Viper is also going to be a one and only. He's just that cool.

I usually try to get at least 2 of the different kinds of vipers, but sometimes I'm unable to find or buy them. So I have a few that are used just like that. Right now I've a Desert Viper & a Strato-Viper serving solo roles.

Heck..I tend to go overboard on the troop building and my big problem is building armies of individuals, more than making a trooper an individual. ^_^

Good example...the new POC Firefly? No way man...this has to be a trooper and I will have more than one of him. More recently however, I did only pick up one of the para-Viper figures and this was because I didn't care for it, and had no desire to army build it but wanted one for the collection anyway. This scenario happens a lot.

Both!

Typically in the 25th/ROC/POC stuff I've largely got vipers as specialized individual Vipers. Army Builders for the basic troopers, officiers, Crimson Guard, base Viper and so on.

For my vintage stuff - I've got armies of those listed above, then usually squads of each of the specializations. Though for the SAW Viper and Toxo Viper they are individuals.

With VERY rare exceptions (Star Viper is the only one who comes to mind) all of my Cobra soldiers are built to whatever astronomical number I can afford. Some units are smaller (Night Creepers, Lampreys, Mega Viper) just because they seem like they wouldn't be a MASSIVE army with their jobs, even within Cobra... but Vipers? Tele-Vipers? Techno-Vipers? Rock Vipers? SAW Vipers? Alley Vipers?? Gotta catch 'em all AND THEN SOME.

I especially carry this over into the ME - I have over 30 Resolute Troopers, about 25 chrome-faced Vipers, EELs, and Snow Serpents, 12 of the Defense of Cobra Island sets, six or seven Motor-Vipers and so on... Since they're easier to collect up, I love having a nice legion that I'm not afraid to touch! (See RAH for reference)

As for the Jungle Viper, specifically - I will build up a good army of him if possible, because while I do see him as self-sufficient, I certainly think of him as working with a partner, and the ocassional no-need-for-camo-sheets missions where they're just stabbing people in the dark.

This is one of the only original Joe comics I have left and I was so hoping the 25th line was going to release a Comic pack with the SAW-Viper and a shot up Doc with this comic. I know it would never happen but it would be much like the chard remains of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru that so many Star Wars fans want. It would be just to say, damn Hasbro you will make anything into an action figure.

Seriously though, it was an awesome issue, I love how the SAW-Viper doesn't hear the orders correctly and than CC is all upset, acting like he's not ever suppose to kill a Joe or they will all come after him. That blew my mind that they made fun of the fact that everyone is always in combat but no one really ever dies.

He killed 7-11 Joes that day, or was it he killed 7 of 11, I don't remember, I'll have to look it up. They were the only Joes to die other than BF2000. I see SAW-Viper as a stand alone specialist.

It wasn't so much a jab at the convention the way you put it. The previous issue featured Snake-Eyes, already pissed from Scarlett being in a coma and his almost brother-in-law killed, passed the Consulate building in NY in an ambulance (carrying a badly stabbed Storm Shadow to the hospital). Snake-Eyes just snapped, busted into the Consulate, laid waste to the Commander's guards and a bunch of Night Creepers and put a knife to the Commander's throat. Stalker followed and related a message from Snake-Eyes... get out of town - NOW!

The Commander's orders to "get rid of them" was meant to be confusing. He meant "let them go, I dont want the Joes gunning for me in a vendetta before I can get out of town." But the Twins heard it as "kill them", and left the SAW-Viper to do just that.

He killed 4 Joes outright - Doc, Crank Case, Heavy Metal, and Thunder. Later, his squad blew up the Rage tank the Joes were on, killing Breaker, Quick Kick and Crazy Legs. Personally, I never felt the SAW-Viper was responsible for those 3...

There were more SAW Vipers in later issues, notably in Issue #121 where 6 various Viper-types arrive in Trans-Carpathia to hold down the Castle while the Commander and his troops flew in by chopper. I also believe a SAW Viper was involved in the last assault on PIT 3 around #130.

I thought Mangler & Sneak Peak had died in the Marvel comics as well.

Funny, I have always used both SAW Viper and Crimson Guard Immortal as individuals(though technically he's not CGI anymore. I'll explain below)

I have SAW Viper in charge of my squad of FLAK Vipers (actually they're Urban Assault Nullifiers, but it's the FLAK Viper mold in the least offensive color scheme ^_^ )

My Crimson Guard Immortal is a little different. In my Joeverse, the CGI has parted ways with the Crimson Guard and works for Cobra Commander now. I use the CAT Tank version of the figure with the accessories from the Convention Destro and he's my Cobra Mortal (less loud and garish-looking than the actual Cobra Mortal. Plus, I don't have one ;) ), and he's in charge of my Shock Vipers.

The only other one I use as an individual is the purple officer from the Night Watch 6 pack. His name is Ajax and he's pretty much the senior blueshirt officer. (I also have a senior enlisted guy, the Sergeant Major.)

On the reverse, I have multiples of the red scarf one from that set as my Skull Squad for Major Bludd. (Didn't care for the convention version.)

I had a feeling trying to talk about it off of the top of my head was going to make me look bad as I have not read all of the joe comics and as I hadn't read that issue in a while. You correcting me on this really makes me want to go buy a bunch of issues and read through them. That or buy the trade backs. When I collected I wasn't as into the Joe books as much because I was more into the cartoon and didn't like the continuity when I was that age. I do remember having to run around trying to find the issue because all of my friends were telling me they actually had killed off Joes in it. Thanks for the info. sorry if I sounded ignorant @smilepunch@

I made a special black ops unit that Firefly is in charge of:

The Glowworm Brigade

One Firefly (V3) = Lieutenant Lightning Bug

Six Firefly (V2)'s = Glowworms

Firefly, personally, hand picked the best soldiers from the different specialized outfits in COBRA. Lt. Lightning Bug used to be with the red Arashikage Ninjas. The others came out of different groups, like the Night-Vipers, Crimson Guard, Snow Serpents, E.E.L.s, etc. He then taught them his sabotage, demolitions, terror, and Koga & Arashikage martial arts techniques. Plus, each man shares with the group what they specialized in the units they came from.

"On lands afar, or scenes at home,

In darkest sea, in brightest light,

Wherever the cause should make me roam,

Always I vow to fight COBRA's fight!

A COBRA, I shall always be,

Striking the world with our venomous bite,

Causing G.I. Joes, and others to flee,

Beware our power... Glowworms light!"

-Marching song of the Glowworm Brigade.

Plus, I made an odd customization using one Firefly (V3) and the arms from one Firefly (V2) to make a fourarmed genetically altered soldier code named Lampyridae. I painted the grey shoulder pads and gloves of the V2 black to match the rest of the V3.

I'd rather have army built the V3's and had one V2 be Lt. Lightning Bug, but I was always able to find more of the grey ones than the black ones.
