Oh my stars and garters!

1. What are garters?

2. Have you ever heard anyone actually say, "Oh my stars and garters!" in real life?

3. What's with Beast's look these days? Some artist are actually drawing the non-cat version again, like JRJR in Avengers #1. I actually prefer that anyway. The other one was too much like the Disney Beast.

Its a strap worn on the upper thigh meant to hold up stockings or pantyhose.

I actually say it, but I say it in the same context that the character, Beast, says it--usually in astonishment or surprise. The phrase is a reference from a Dickens story, iirc.

I've seen character drawn as the cat-like Beast in the most recent stories, but if the look is changing, its part of a storyline or art I'm not privy to.

I thought it was something like that. Good 'ol Chris Clairmont...what comic writer today would reference Dickens?

... also, the evil elastic straps that attach from shirt to socks to keep both wrinkle-less, at least in USAF Class-A uniforms. And yes, for men.

Garters:

1 a : a band worn to hold up a stocking or sock

b : a band worn to hold up a shirt sleeve

c : a strap hanging from a girdle or corset to support a stocking

You know, the groom removes one of these from the brides leg and throws it into a group of single men to see who will be the next guy to get married.

Here's a mans sock garter:

Personally, I prefer Garter Belts for women to use to keep their stockings up:

Someone needs to render a drawing of Beast seeing stars wearing a garter on his head.

Whoa! Ya got that one in higher resolution? :)

I knew what garters were, just...WHY is it part of Beast's catch phrase??? It's wierd...

I figured you actually knew what garters were, I just wanted an excuse to post pics like these. Sadly, no, I don't have a higher rez pic of those.

Yes, but since he became hairy beast two years before Wolverine's debut, I would have to say its the other way around.

But I know what you mean.

1. It's what they throw at a wedding for the single guys to fight over.

2. No, but if I was alive back in 1963 when the X-men started, I might have. They said all kinds of wacky stuff then!

3. Yeah... best not to talk about that situation! Beast looks.... however artists want, it seems. He's a kitty, he's a monkey, he's a giraffe... ugh! I almost want him to be plain ole hairless Hank again! Just a regular dude with some honkin big feet!

Personally he reminds me more of a lion :) Which is the style they should have gone with to start with rather than the Beauty The Beast look... uhg... also he has had paws?! Whatt?...

Jim Lee drawing of him worked best for me, but I'm a 90's style of drawing type of guy. In fact that may be the only thing other than Star Wars toys being relaunched (not that any of them were really that great) that was good about the 90's.
