Star Wars Marbs=Awesome?!

Okay, so as you may (or may not) know, I'm a huge Star Wars fanatic. Here lately, I've been particularly interested in all things "Original Trilogy" related. Well, some months ago, I was flipping through an issue of Toyfare magazine when I saw a mysterious ad for this new collectible called "Marbs". I immediately thought of the Pog craze from the early '90s and pretty much dismissed it right away. Then later on I saw pics of these new Marbs and almost laughed at their cheesiness.

Some time later I saw some pics somewhere of the Empire Strikes back Marbs, and then I slowly began to change my mind; I actually thought they looked kinda cool and sought them out at TRU during the holidays. Upon close, in-hand inspection though, these things seemed cheap; I was under the impression that these things were a solid piece of clear plastic fused to a base, and half of them looked crooked. I was disappointed and underwhelmed, and so I passed on them.

Back to the present: I've been checking-out little odds-and-ends Star Wars collectibles here lately, and Marbs popped back into my consciousness again when I found some on clearence at TRU today. I though what the heck and decided to actually get one and just see if there's anything to them. I found the Priness Leia one and bought it. I got it home and opened it, and it's alot nicer than I was expecting! These things are great! First of all, they're like real-glass marbles; I mean, I know they're called Marbs, as in short for marbles (lol), but I just thought they were clear cheap plastic since they didn't seem all that heavy in the package. But it's actually like a large, real-glass marble, and it's nice. Second, the marble is separate from the little Star Wars base it comes on. I thought they were fused together like one piece of plastic, and that's why they looked crooked in the package, not because of shoddy construction like I thought.

I really like these and recommend them, if you're like me and you're on the lookout for unusual, quirky little Star Wars collectibles that are different. I just wish I had caught on to these these sooner and hadn't let them slip away in stores. I understand though that several new waves are coming out soon, but I don't know if TRU will continue to carry them if what they already have is clearanced out now.

Well, I may have misspoken; upon closer inspection, I don't think these things are glass. I think they're just plastic after all. They just don't feel as heavy as glass should. Oh well. I still think they're pretty cool. (I used to feel exactly like you do Wheeljack. Maybe I'm just caught up in nostalgia right now over Star Wars...) (lol)
