Do you open your DCUC figures or keep them sealed?

I was just wondering, because amongst my friends, everyone has different views of keeping thier DCUC figures sealed, or opening them. Some keep them sealed, and some open them. The way I do it is, I collect doubles of the figures I LIKE (Which honestly is nearly every figure), and I open the double and keep the one in the most mint package sealed. It is definately ALOT more expensive to do this, but I still do it anyways if I can find the double of a figure, which I usually do, whether it be getting it loose off of Ebay, or finding it again in a store.

Anyways, what are your views on keeping them sealed or opening them, and which do you do?

My view about MOC toys has always been this:

Keeping a toy MOC is like having a date with the hottest, sexiest super-model imaginable, and wrapping her up head-to-toe in saran wrap so you cannot do anything with her.

Where's the fun in that???

Obviously, I remain a staunch opener.

I am an opener but for some reason I've only opened a few of my DCUC figures thus far. Out of all of the figures released thus far I think I only have 3 or 4 loose. This is partly because I recently moved and I know I'm moving again within the next year so they're all boxed up but it's also partly due I think to being on the fence about collecting Mattel's goods. Every time I collect one of their lines I end up feeling burnt by Mattel and give it up. They're currently living up to that by now charging $5 for a die cast Pixar Car and $15 (after tax) for a DCUC figure. They're gouging their fan base and destroying their brand longevity. There's always hope of Hasbro buying them out.

with dcuc I have been opening them because they can simply fall apart on you the second you do! I've been buying doubles of my fave characters to keep mosc & just hope they are ok...

Sigh. I am an opener, but due to not currently having the space to display, I havent opened ANY of my DCUC since wave 2! and I have EVERYONE from wave 1 to some of 11! Sucks.

I will start by saying I am a MOC collector (and I buy doubles of my favorites, to open). That said, from my view, neither choice is "wrong", or "stupid". Both have their pros:

MOC, pros:

-A DCUC figure will probably never look as cool as it did in package (flying, dynamic pose, etc.) Then when somebody asks "Who's that?", you can just tell them to read the back. :D

-Investment can come back to you at a later point

-Figures are guaranteed to stay intact and complete

Loose, pros:

-You can make the CnC figures

-You can better re-create your favorite panels and scenes

-Takes up substantially less space

-Makes customizing possible

Just off the top of my head. It's all collecting, though. :)

I open them

I only leave anything that is rare in it's package

I started collecting some of these DCUC Three-Pack figures casually. I'm a "oh wow...what's that?" Collector. When it's affordable enough I'll pick them up from, and when they're available at ROSS. I have six or seven three packs and they were $4.99 each. I'll get more as they come out, and open all of them. Sure glad I do. Supergirl in a three pack with Bizarro and Wondergirl had a badly mangled leg, and glued right arm which really was lousy. No other of these were left so I kept it. Good thing. Two days later, I picked up another set, and got three perfect figures including Superman! (Yeay! - Didn't realize Bizarro/Superman were alternately packed).

Articulation isn't the greatest, but at least I haven't paid too much for them. I like them, but even I noticed that other stores would get get some figs and not others. Well, hit or miss, these were pretty cheap and I still like 'em.

I open all of my figures, though not always right away. I mean, what fun is Solomon Grundy's severed arm?

I open the variants too, so I can sell/trade the extra BAF parts.

dont open. I dont play with toys. I just enjoy collecting the characters & colors. and if/when I bore of them, I can sell them easier

I don't know if it's easier, but you'll usually make more money if you sell each figure loose along with the BAF. Or list each BAF part by itself.

I say there are definately pros and cons to keeping the figures sealed, and to opening them, BUT the thing about keeping the figure sealed is, that you can ALWAYS open it later on it if you want to. Once its opened though, you can never re-seal the figure and go back. So if there was NO possible way for me to have a double, I leave it sealed every time. In the past I have opened a figure and then regreted it when I could not find a double. Luckily, I have found doubles of everything DCUC that I have opened.

If it's something like a Star Wars vehicle that's in a cardboard box, there's no upside in my opinion. You might as well buy the box empty, it'll look the same on your shelf.

If it's a clear package, they can sometimes look nice on a shelf. But beyond the fact that I don't have the money to buy multiples, I don't have the space to keep the packages. For something like 25th Anniversary Joes, perhaps, but DCUC packages take up way too much room.

i used to buy 1 to open and 1 MOC. but it got to a point that Im running out of space and spending a lot of money especially for hard to find sets. so now I just open everything but the MOC collector in me sometimes feel bad whenever I open my DCU right away (like Wave 8 & 9).

I used to do this with my Star Wars figs when I collected them years ago.
