frustrated collector

If Wave 10 came out and at EVERY Wal-Mart, they had them stocked non-stop, and this was the way it was going to be from now on, I don't think it would be as fun collecting them.
I know I don't speak for everyone, but I'm not having any fun when I can't find anything newer than Ocean Warrior Aquaman.

i havent readed all of those pages but it seems to me that some just collect because a product is hot right now. i dont know but i collect figures because i love the characters and the hobby. not because this is the line everyone must have. i even think that it is funny because so manny people complain about scalpers and i bet that half of you all would buy doubles if you would earn a lot of money. come on be honest. buy a joker for 15 bucks and receive 100 bucks for it. sorry but it is tempting. i think that bigest issue is how to order something at you precious supermarkets. if you wanna have a special wave of a serie, dont care if dcuc or another, there must be a way to order it. the whole world loves it the hard way. dont know why. how easy can it be.

walmart calling mattel:

m: welcome to mattel, we love you and we listen to you.

w: hi, bruce from walmart in gotham city.

m: hi, what can we do to make life enjoyable?

w: yes, little clark here wants to have the new wave from dcuc wave 10. is there a possibility to order them?

m: yes they are in stock right now and you will receive them in a week.

w: nice and easy. thanks mattel you are the best.

m: thanks to you bruce and we hope little clark will love our products.

thats how it should go. nice and easy but no it is the other way around. it goes from one dude to another. no one listens to another. everyone is so related to computers and statistics and #$##. by the way, what is the big deal with a dude buying figures twice? damn, if he wants them in and outside the box. who cares. it is his money and collection afterall. i collect motuc in and out too. so if the next dude doesnt get it, bad luck. thats life. some get sick some dont. bad luck. thats why i think that real collectors should be able to order those figs when they come out. thats why i prefer comicshops. they know what they are talking and they are reliable. at least for me. yes they are more expensive but they are way more into it and if you are a regular costumer, then they do better prices anyway.

No actually, I would NOT buy doubles for that reason.

I've bought toys to re-sell in the past, and simply had no success in reselling them--even with a mark-up of as little as $5.

I could care less about such a small return, and could care less about a shot at $100 more--its just not worth the hassle.

I've done this an even half dozen times in the past, and literally gave away the last items I bought--just to be rid of them.

I just do not want to store loads of action figures I personally do not want to consume ( meaning: open)that are meant for re-sell.

That is not the part of the hobby I am interested in.

I am sure alot of you don't agree, but half of the fun in collecting DCUC or any figure for that matter is the hunt for it. The ONLY time I buy off of the internet if when I absolutely have to. I love going to different stores looking for a certain figure. That way, when I finally find it, I appreciate it that much more. If I could just walk into any store that carries DCUC and leave with any figure from the collection, I honestly think that would suck after a while. Don't get me wrong, I am all about the figures being more available, but if they were THAT easy to come by, I think some collectors would eventually fall off the collecting wagon.

Different strokes for different folks.

I'm not interested in the hunt anymore. I used to be, and expended a great deal of energy, time and capital hunting in two countries--but I do not have the means, interest or time to physically do this now. For me, the name of my game is patience, not effort. I build relationships, watch for leads, and exploit opportunities. I spend FAR less money now collecting, and yet I get more fun out of it--because I have the fellowship of other collectors and retailers to enjoy--and I have time to address other life-priorities than collecting.

Its all about what works for you.
