What does Joe Quesada have to do with this? His job is to make sure the comic books get published, not to find a media conglomerate to sell out to. You do know there's a big difference between EIC and CEO right?

I've said this a couple other place, put I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I don't see anything happening today, tomorrow or next week. As a matter of fact I really don't think we'll se anything really happen for a year or two. Disney didn't buy Marvel for it comic publishing, they bought it for the characters and how they can use them. I'm sure well see some tv shows and maybe Disney will try to buy the Spiderman movies rights back from Sony and maybe distribute Marvel studios film under one of it owms studio names. Maybe they could even close down MArvel Studios and set up shop somewhere else. I just don't see Disney doing anything to affect the Comics or Toy parts of Marvel right now, it not like they have a real publishing division or Toy company. SO right now I would have to say it's all about the Marvel characters in movies and on tv.

Ok, I just read that at another website and rushed here. What could this mean for or comics and movies? My fear is Disney trying to have some creative control over the comics, the characters and try to make everything more "Disney" like and try to appeal to young ages. On the bright side though, could this mean more money towards or beloved movies? Maybe we will be seeing more Marvel characters on the big screen.

I don't know. My guess is things will stay the way they are ... only now you will be able to buy Marvel merchandise at their stores. Maybe bring some new attraction to the parks.

Again, guess only time will tell. Just please, don't bring any of those "Disney Values" #$@# into OUR comics and characters.

I think I had the same reaction most of you did, but if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. DC is owned by Warner right? So Marvel being owned by Disney is not unthinkable. From what I have read, it seems like Disney wants to focus on bringing something to the table for young boys. They had success for girls with Hanna Montana and Johnas Brothers, so why not Ironman and Spiderman for boys? I doubt we will see Mickey and the gang stroll up to the Punisher or have Donald Duck duke it out with Hulk. Marvel is making a mint right now and I doubt Disney would want to upset it. Disney is a lot of things, but a poor business it is not. They know how to use their assets and the best way to handle things like this, so I am sure we will keep getting what we have been getting content wise.

Thank you for being the voice of reason. Some people here are so clueless they're blaming Joe Quesada for this "mess". Disney and Star Wars have been crossing over merchandise for years and it's affected nothing, NOTHING, for the adult fan. So what if they make a comic teaming up Mickey and Spider-Man? Do you really think they'll aim it at people like us, or little kids?

And what would be so bad about a Disney/Pixar CGI Marvel movie?

Oh kids, don't be alarmed or over react.

This is a good thing.

Disney is THE powerhouse when it comes to branding, nobody beats them. This merger is akin to the merger of DC Comics with Time/Warner back in the 1970's--and its long overdue.

DC wouldn't have lasted if not for that merger, and this new arrangement for Marvel will keep them vital for years to come.

Marvel does something very well that Disney has had little success with: Superheroes--which are very popular these days.

This opens up expansion for both companies, in terms of licensing toys, comics, animation, TV series, theme parks......you name it. You will see more product, of all kinds as a result of this.

I very seriously doubt you'll see any watering down of Marvel product at all as a result of this because this is a merger, not a takeover. Marvel is being brought in because of the way Marvel does things, not simply because Marvel has worthwhile assets.

There's no need to freak out, this is a really good thing. Trust me.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, Disney owns Buena Visa films that alone will tell you that they won't shy away from a more adult oriented media (when I say adult oriented I don't mean porn LOL). True they might mix up some disney characters with marvel's here and there but I think thats a good thing to keep Marvel Universe alive for generations to come.

I have a feeling that for the most part this will not effect things all that much. I think that in the last few years Disney has made some smart decisions within their company and I hope that this will transfer over to Marvel. Ultimately I think it would be great if comic books were made more available to kids so maybe we'll see a bigger push on the Marvel Age type books.

And this is in no way the doing of Joey da Q. He's just the editor of the comic books.

Stop making sense dammit! This topic was supposed to be for fermenting wild accusations of the end of Marvel Comics as we know it and you just reassured everybody that it will be ok! What are we going to do now?

One thing I always hated about DC after being bought by Warner Bros. is that now you can't read an issue of Batman without Buggs Bunny turning up every other issue. It really takes away from the realism. Also, females who used to wear hot, revealing costumes like Power GIrl, Catwoman and Star Saphire now have to walk around wraped up like a nun on a cold day. All because of WB!

Now, the same thing will happen to Marvel. The company and all the comics we like are doomed. DOOMED!!!!

Have a cookie.

Drink some milk.

Go sit in the corner.

Rock back and forth.

It all works itself out.

So, does this mean we can look forward to Marvel movies done by Pixar? :D

Actually, this is a possibility.

Pixar is opening up a animation studio in Vancouver, BC (this has been confirmed) to be up and running fairly soon--say before 2010, and Marvel projects MIGHT eventually end up on their desks.

It would be the kinds of projects that such a studio would be ideally suited for.

It looks for be a busy next few years for us creative types, at least.

Actually, if you get to the theme park end of it, this is where Marvel and Disney could really win.

Look, if anyone of you have been to the parks recently, they are recovering from a period of doldrums in the Eisner era. John Lasseter is spearheading a ambitious, agrressive initiative to upgrade and expand the existing parks and attractions.

The hallmark of the Disney parks is the interactive, storytelling entertainment experience something they do better than anyone else. The Imagineering staff have all kinds of tricks up their to devises fun rides and attractions, but they are limited by themes. Disney really doesn't have that much of a presence in the superhero genre--the Incredibles notwithstanding here.

Now they have access to a stable of characters and stories that can add to existing parts of the parks, OR all-new standalone parks.

We are not just talking about some "themed" roller-coasters here, but new interactive kinds of rides and such.

You could walking into a Fantastic Four Baxter Building lab and, in effect lift a 100 ton weight ( with some clever counter balancing) and a benchpress built for the Thing--for example. Or do rides where you travel amongst the X-men in the midst of a pitched battle with Sentinels, who in turn start to threaten you. Disney has this kind of thing down pat.

I don't think they will tone any of it down either, because Marvel is already pretty family friendly, as far as a brand goes.
