Battleforce 2000 (excluding Dodger)

I have to admit the ONLY reason i like Dodger is fan stuff. A lot of fans made good arguments about him being a leader who lost his whole squad, as well as the best name and design of the Bf 2000. I agree with you completly.

I think we can also Toss out any of the copycat characters. Lifeline II, doubleblast, and I'm sure there are more that are escaping me at the moment.

Especially ones who were obviously meant to be the originals, but had different file names because someone at Hasbro wanted to get laid (or honor a friend/fallen soldier. But really someone had to do it to get laid, at least once!). Surefire and Big Brawler should top any and all lists, really, because aside from honoring the pond-scum runners of the Tin Platoon 'fan'club, they were no better than Double Blast and Chameleon in that they were redundant to Shockwave and Outback.

And lastly, Red Spot. Because the code-name itself is just awful.

I've heard those guys that surefire and bigbrawler are based on are great guys, I how however just won't pay to be a member in a cult or anything. I also greatly dislike the names. Brawler? It was a JEEP! how confusing is that! do you think any of the more special of the Joes got confused on which one to Arm and drive it to the jungle? There has to be something to explain all the jokes over at Joecustoms at the poor guy. If i were I'd actually never want the honor again because of some of the fan hate and mocking.

I mentioned Red Spot earlier as well. I think of lot is names. I can get past odd character traits and funky colors but lame names I can't look bast. On a related note, I nominate we forget everyone with "Blast" in their name.

I liked BF2000. I thought they worked as a "test team" for new gear/vehicles.

And code names? No big deal, they can be twisted. Look at Shockblast. Now there is something useful. Would you rather NOT get a character if they "can't do the name right"? Is Stuart "Outback" Selkirk better?

I can seen not doing the "redundant" characters like Double Blast and Chameleon, but couldn't you argue that Footloose is "redundant" to Grunt (for example)?

Chuckles. I never really thought he fit in with the concept. He seemed like an attempt to put a Miami Vice character on the Joe team. And the Hawaiian shirt was so badly done, it looked lame. Looked like he had some mutant starfish on his shirt.

The thing is, I did like how that figure was one of the first (maybe the first?) to come with a holster for his handgun. That part was pretty sweet.

Always thought he was more Magnum PI for me. I personally liked Chuckles and did not like the fact he was voiceless in the animated movie and never seen again..

And THAT was what sucked about the 25th version. NO holster.

You probably could but for guys like footloose it would seem to make sense to have several "grunts" The figures seem a little different too. I'm thinking of guys like Hacker who seems to be a mainframe clone, or Dart in place of Spirit. I really think HD falls in that category too, just too similiar. Look at the difference for say RnR, Repeater, and Roadblock, they all have similar roles but seem to have different characteristics (a rocker, a chief, an almost blank slate with a cool gun) But Hd just seems to mimic roadblock (Big, likes to cook (now, i'll admit originally he was more original ) Or guys like white-out or rampage (Jvc version) who are just straight repaint characters. I think in this day and age Hasbro can at least Frankenstein.

Since I mentioned that version of Rampage, i'm not the PC guy in the world but you make a guy black and he goes from Beachead to "Rampage" that just seems at the very least, not well thought out.

So, basically, it boils down to the characters being unique? You could argue that "Double Blast" is unique, for an example. He's got a lot of background on his filecard, so it has to be more than just a unique character. But your right, a little frankensteining would help a lot. How come they could do it in RAH, but not here?

Footloose was just the first character that came to mind. I could have easily said Downtown (who, I think, was supposed to be an "update" of Short-Fuze before the made him a new character) or Sci-Fi, both of whom are more specialized then Grunt and Footloose.

But then, why is a guy like Sci-Fi, Downtown and Dial-Tone acceptable while Hacker or Wide Scope not? Guys like Spytroops Rampage and post-RAH Heavy Duty I can see as they are just clones of Beach Head and Roadblock respectively. But a guy like Hacker (to continue an example)? I don't see him as anything like Mainframe. Being a computer specialist doesn't make him a "clone". Wide Scope, I could see as redundant because how many S.W.A.T. guys and dog handlers does the team need?

I mention post-RAH Heavy Duty because the original wasn't just a Roadblock clone. That came later.

Of course there ARE guys that are ridiculous. Hi-Tech, for example, his file card reads like a conglomeration of several other characters (Dial-Tone and Slipstream, to name two). Of course a lot has to do with some characters being super-ninja-badass characters, like the aforementioned Hi-Tech. Or guys like Big Brawler and Double Blast.

But I think a lot of it boils down to the "new" guys just not being "popular" for some reason. More so than the characters. The new movie characters have it the worst. You don't really even HAVE much of a sense of their characters based on those crappy "filecards" they have.
