Smallville Season 9 Discussion Thread (Potential Spoilers)

I was hoping Sam would get the role. He's such an obvious choice and people liked him, and they even hinted at it in Season 8, but whatever. I'm not crazy about the Zod thing anyway. I'm glad they're bringing in Metallo, but these old school, done-in-the-movies villains like General Zod kind of bore me since we've seen them. I'm sure we can expect the same old trials and challenges for Clark now.

Spoiler warning...

I just read on Kryptonsite that "Alia" has been cast for Season 9. Apparently she's a "beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton."

All I can say is *groan* if she's another Kryptonian.

I read another spoiler for Season 9 last night. I won't say what it was (though I will say it was minor), but it doesn't have me very hopeful for the new season.

It seems like Souders and Peterson know how to do some things, but then it also seems like they're kind of lazy/unoriginal/unimaginative with other stuff.

I watched one of the videos from this. The Season 9 preview clip looked really good, but that's to be expected.

Watching them get introduced and seeing them address the crowd had me thinking it really looks like torture for them to do these kinds of things (not just Smallville's cast, but every TV/film cast). Most just seem so unenthusiastic about being there. And for being celebrities, some seem surprisingly uncomfortable or awkward in front of people.

Anyway, everything I'm reading seems to indicate Season 9 will be just like Season 8. And that's good, because Season 8 was good, but it's bad because Season 8 is almost nothing like the early seasons that made the show truly great.

I liked the show initially but i eventually gave up because of the constant build up to 2 minutes throw-away villians.

I was really shocked to hear it's continuing.

I'm sure they'll plug in as many DC Universe characters as possible this season as that's all they have left to really attract attention and drive up interest. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's unfortunate so many great actors have left the show and sort of forced that way of doing things. But I guess many people wanted it that way from the start, so maybe that's good for the show.

There are some good actors I miss but if you think about it, a lot of them had to go eventually. John Glover was great but I knew by episode one that Lex would eventually kill him (to further the evilness of his character)so every season he got out of alive was just a bonus. Pa Kent was also good but he also had to die because it's a big part of Clark turning out the way he does.

Pete (does anyone really care?) Lana was Clark's adolescent crush and they told that story so she's not missed much. And Lex himself...the season 8 writers did a pretty good job of keeping him a lingering threat even though the actor left the show. If anything the one I have the biggest problem with was Jimmy being offed which seems to be a casualty of WB sticking their nose in and telling the writers what to do. To bad there.

Anyhow, I didn't watch much of season 8 when it was on but I DID just finish the DVD so I'm all set for the new season. If I have any hope it's that the FANS can discuss the show without people who haven't watched it since season 2 poping in and proclaiming that they hate the show and haven't watched it since season 2, followed by an essay on how continuity is not being followed. We get it.

Oh....and I hope for another Supergirl episode.

Jimmy's death was surprising but when you think about it he's too old to be the Jimmy Olsen we know. He's just slightly younger than Clark and in the comics Clark's an adult while Jimmy's still a kid.

While, after last season's finale, I'm not sure how I felt about this season, I definately think there were more hits than misses. I like Callum's Major Zod, I think he does a pretty good job of channeling younger version of Terrance Stamp. I thought it was funny that the Matrix-esque fight (hence Clark's new look?) in the barn seeemed better than the Doomsday fight the entire last season built up to. I'm not too thrilled with the Heroes plotline though (while I followed spoilers, In didn't realize it was only a year into the future).
