Who bought the X-Men cartoon on DVD?

IMO, X-Men was one of the last good catroons seen here in America (along with Batman:TAS, Tick, and ExoSquad) and those were all from the 90s. It's about time this show was put on DVD. The stories were good, the animation was decent, and there was good characterization and a great set of X-Men on the team.

 

Let's face it, catroons suck now. I tried to watch something on Saturday morning...something based on a card game from Japan. I realize that these need to be a half hour commercials for the product but there was NO attempt at story here and the voice actors seemed to literally be reading the directions to the game in place of any sort of "dialogue". I couldn't watch it. The worst part is, ALL cartoons are like this now.

 

So yeah, kinda turned that into two topics there but go out and get X-Men on DVD! Good stuff.

I went yesterday, and the store had slots on the shelf, but nothing out. According to their website, they have stock, so I'll be checking again tomorrow.

I saw them at Wal-mart, but they were $19.99 apiece. I won't pay that much given how stripped down and un-enhanced these sets are (plus the show's on DisneyXD every night). I'll probably pick them up eventually, though, especially if they release all 70-some episodes.

Although, not technically seasons, these were released as Volume 1 and Volume 2, each a two-disc set which collect the first 33 episodes in order from seasons one and two and the first seven episodes from season three. Volumes three and four have yet to be announced.

Can't tell how many sets as they are not going strictly by season, but there were 5 seasons aired, for a total of 76 episodes. If they go by a 16-episode set (prob did 17 for vol 2 to not break up Phoenix Saga) then there would be 2 more volumes, and a mini-volume to make up for the remainder. Unless they included the Spider-man crossover eps, which is good for another 5, and would make for a 'full' volume.

Target has them for $18 each and if you go to Best Buy you can get both for $35. It's an OK deal.

I was in Target today buying socks and lightbulbs and looking at the tumbleweeds rolling through the toy section(man is it a sad time to be collecting. yeecchh.) but I wandered over to the DVD area and saw these and splurged. I kinda wish there was a documentary or something like DC does on all it's DVDs about the history of the characters in the comics and stuff. But other than that, it's a pretty good deal. i can't wait to watch them!

Funny thing is, there's the usual disclaimer about 'the views expressed blah blah blah' at the beginning, hinting that there is other material (discussions) that should have been on the disks. There isn't, but that disclaimer got my hopes up for possible bonus material to come in the future releases.

I think that's standard on pretty much all DVDs these days, regardless of actual content. Legal can't cover it's ass enough.

I loved this cartoon growing up, but the animation was pretty poor at times. It was too inconsistent, too.

 

I was watching the '90s Spider-Man cartoon with the X-Men as guest stars this weekend, and they looked so much better on Spider-Man than their own show. It would have been nice if X-Men was animated by the same people/studio as Spider-Man.

I HATED The 90's X-Men cartoon!

 

The animation sucked, all the characters looked too "beefy" for my tastes, the team was too "90's" and the storylines were adapted haphazardly to say the least. The show ran for so long that they could have easily expanded or changed the roster, yet they stuck to the same 8 members. That bothered me alot, since there were SO MANY other X-people out there that were overlooked. I would have loved to seen others featured at some point. Rahne, Illyana, Kitty, Sunspot, Cypher, Rachel, Madrox, the Hellions or any number of others. Some of those appeared, but weren't really important to the show in any way.

 

I loved Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends though. The animation was 10x better than the X-Men cartoon. And Pryde of the X-Men absolutely blew it out of the water. Of course I was a kid at the time, and just SEEING the X-Men ANYWHERE was awesome beyond belief.

 

You have to understand, at the time I was WAY purist when it came to the X-Men. From around '86 through '97, I was a hardcore X-fanatic. If it didn't follow canon, I couldn't stand it. As I matured, I had to let that go. And because at the time, the X-Men comics themselves were sucking pretty hard. I realized "MY" X-Men were gone, so I had to adapt.

 

I still hate the 90's X-Men cartoon though. My favorite X-Men ever are Colossus and Nightcrawler, and since they were barely ever on the show, I gave up on it after 2 seasons.

 

Strangely though, I liked X-Men: Evolutions...

I bought both today and I've been very pleased with them. I remember liking the cartoon back when it was on the air, but the thing I remember the most was waiting months for a new episode. They replayed the crap out of these back then. Now that it's been years since I've seen them, and I have almost 760 minutes (12 1/2 hours) straight, watching them is much nicer.

I disagree. The 90's toon was one of the VERY few toons to be fully based on the comics. It's one of the best cartoons ever. The new X-toon is a bastard child.
