Star Trek Playmates Review/Pic thread

I've got the entire 6 inch line of Playmates Star Trek figs from the new movie (except Uhura and Pike any word if they are rarer? Stupid short packed girl figures.. @sad@ ) Had them for over a week now or so.

They range from great (Spock, Old Spock, Sulu) to ok (McCoy, Chekov) to "eh" (Kirk, Scotty(he looks like an bad guy!), and Nero)

It's nice to see they all come with display stands though, (all figure lines should automatically come with display stands.) The characters in Starfleet uniforms come with silver Starfleet bases, the Cadets come with gold Starfleet bases and the others (Old Spock, Nero) come with a circular black base with the Starfleet logo on it.

Plus the packaging, while plain, does the job and displays the figure well. And as a bonus you can remove the big paper Starfleet logo from the front of the package and hang it up! @haha@

The accessories (esp phasers) are also well detailed. Sadly, no one comes with a tricorder..

Articulation's fine. These aren't characters who are gonna be put in kung-fu poses anyway.

The soft rubber shirts are odd..not sure why they aren't just plastic... I mean why would you want to lift up their shirts anyway? Except Uhura of course! @luv@ )

The Spock's hands enterchange well as well. (between "live long and prosper" hands and regular holding accesories hands)

Oh, one odd note: Nero (who's the film's Romulan bad guy) has one pointy Romulan ear and one round human ear! WTF? does this mean he's half Romulan? ehh set phasers for bad joke....@rolleye@

Seriously I give these figs a.... 8/10 and recomend them.

Also, I've got the Playmates Enterprise. @trek@ I give that a 9/10 it's so cool! @bananna@

Oh, and also hello to everyone, this is my first post on these forums since I only just "discovered" this site a few days ago. @luigi@

Okay... this is one cool ship. Who needs a night club?

That ship looks absolutely incredible! :o
I think I'll be getting this one now.
I saw the 6 inch figures and wasn't digging the molded on pattern of the uniform shirts... Any other thoughts on this?
its not that bad, the shirts ... may look like a sweater ...
I guess it does look like a big thick sweater. I was originally thinking that it looked like Captain America armor or Aquaman scales.
It makes them look more like the uniforms from "The Menagerie" than the ones from the new movie.
Oh, one odd note: Nero (who's the film's Romulan bad guy) has one pointy Romulan ear and one round human ear! WTF?
During the movie one of his ears is cut and scarred.

After having seen the movie, I think I'll be going at the 3.75" figures full force. I've already got Spock and Sulu. I saw that the bridge comes with Kirk and the transporter comes with Scotty. Do the sets include the extra pieces that the singles come with? I mean, "can you still complete the bridge/transporter without having to buy an extra single carded Kirk/Scotty," just wondering. I might have to get extras anyway to do some head-swaps for Bones and Chekov.

Hi All,

Personally, from what I've seen and heard I'm unlikely to get any of these (but I've yet to see any here). I've always been a big Trek fan but have never liked the Playmates figures. I would liked to have seen Art Asylum doing somryhing for this movie, but alas...

Don't get me wrong, as a TOY they are great value and more importantly great FUN as has already been stated, but as a collectible?

Mmm, I not so sure.

To my mind IF your buying these as a collectible you're looking LONG term, maybe 15-20 years and then ONLY if no-one else decides these are worth hoarding.

So enjoy them for what they are, TOYS and not collectibles.
