Well gang the topic pretty much says it all. My room mate sent me to this site.....um.....something like my krypton.com, but when I tried to go there again, I ended up at some porn site with a bunch of naked women (YUCK).

"What are you? Gay?"

Sorry, I don't mean any offense. Just that when I read that post, I thought of Zap Branigan's quote from Futurama.

I think Smallville gets a lot of unjust criticism because people don't understand the concept.

They see Clark Kent and think he has to be Superman, but the show never intended to be about Superman. It's about Clark Kent, and more specifically, it's about a Clark Kent that doesn't know he'll become Superman.

The creators had a "no tights, no flights" policy from the very beginning, and if more people realized that, it would help. Some would still criticize it, but some would also be more accepting knowing that it truly is all about Clark Kent, not Superman.

Smallville is not without its faults, but most of the time those don't include what the general public or hardcore fanboys point out (like Clark doesn't fly, doesn't wear the costume, etc.). Superman has changed a lot since 1930-whatever, so I don't get people who can't accept Smallville.

To get back on topic, I'm on the fence as far as another season goes. This season has been pretty good, but it does feel like they're running out of fresh ideas or ways to keep the same ideas fresh.

I always been cool & down with the "no tights no flights" rule. My thing is this show (for better or worse) IS most deff reaching the end of its rope.

My vote is for a 9th season & I've already said why. The "we don't need Lex" gamble failed & they need to kiss & make up so this kick ass show can end the right way. Sorry but I don't agree that this season has been great (its been ok) but could have been much better if Lex (& by that I mean the REAL LEX), had been part of the plot moving forward to its ultimate climax. I also predict that if Smallville does not in the last eps have Clark show the House of El crest on his chest in some fashion, fans will no doubt feel like they been left hanging.

This show needs the proper closer to end right.

The whole no tights no flight thing was a unique and great idea when the show started and up to about four seasons ago but now its worn out its welcome. Clark is doing everything but wearing the suit and flying. You can't keep the show going if they plan on keeping the cape off of him for much longer. I agree with Queen on this one. If he doesn't don the suit by the end of the show the fans will be pretty upset. And Eric your last sentence is the same sentiment we have been going on about. That the show has pretty much reached the end of its rope and they should just let Clark "graduate".

According to what I've seen, Rosenbaum's only stipulation is that they allow him to proceed with a skullcap, instead of a clean-shorn pate. He's grown his hair out for various roles since his departure and would rather not shave it again. That's a pretty small stipulation, given the wonders of modern-day SFX, so I tend to think this whole controversy surrounding his departure is somewhat... exagerated.

And while I really love the guy (still not gay! ;) ), and how well he's portrayed Lex, I gotta say, Lex is ONE of Superman's rouge's gallery. The prominent one, no doubt, but just one, nonetheless. Hell, in the comics, he was only a small part of Clark's time in Smallville. There are waaaaaay more stories that can be told without involving him. Or Lois, Lana, etc...

And just to clarify, SQ, my 'gay' comment at the begining was not to say I thought you were calling ME gay, but to say that even straight people appreiciate the beauty of this show! :P

I just hope they take this GIFT of time to really focus on developing Clark's character. For Christ's sake, I remember reading stories where while not on the same level as Bats, he was still pretty effing smart unto his own! A whirlwind tour of the world would not be a bad thing! Remember, he can always speed 'home' to get help from the Smallville collective of deus ex machinas who seemingly all decided to take up residence there! (Lois included! WTF?!?)

My hope is that season 9 will be the last season. The show has really run its course and it deserves a good ending. I hope they commit to ending the show and not doing that really stupid thing that a lot of producers do when a show nears its end of its life, "Well we feel like instead of ending it like most people thought we would, we decided to bring in a whole new crew of writers. With these new writers we think the show could go on for at least three more seasons." And of course the show gets canceled b/c the ratings have tanked and no resolution is ever met.

Well, given the fact that this was said to be the final season all along and the ratings and new producers seemed to have earned another, I think they'll go into it with the plan Season 9 will be it. That will give them time to come up with a spinoff (only a rumor at this point) or something else entirely to replace it. That will also give Souders, Peterson, and the writers a chance to really pick a direction and get there when it's all said and done.

ok here the problem I have with the show todate. Ever sence season 4 they have been edgeing in this whole Justice league thing right? But heres the problem with that. This is a show that chronials the exploits of a young Clark Kent, NOT JUSTICE LEAGUE! Now dont get me wrong about all the JL cameos. Each eps was done very cool and with a great budget. The writing was on par too.

but what happened is that when ever Smallville found its self in need of a quick boost pick me up in the rateings dept, (POOF) out come a couple of future members of the JL! As I stated this pleased many fans (myself included), but the "side affects" of this "booster drug writing" came with consequences. Suddenly Smallville was'nt about Smallville or the future Superman. It was now about the future Justice League.

Which takes me back to a comment i made several post ago. CW needs to figure out which "Superman" they want to end with...........the one who's the center pice of the JL with less power? Or will they go with the solo Suprman? The one who's power and might is unparriled and 2nd too none! My vote is for solo Superman.

But if thats the case, then what will they do with all thoese JL chacters that are just floating in limbo?? Smallville needs to learn to give up its crutch and walk on its own!

I still think they f-ed it up by bringing Lois into the picture. Even moreso by bringing CK into the Daily Planet and Metropolis. (not to mention the countless other derailments! Maxima?! Doomsday?!? Hell, Zod?!?!?) Talk about going against dogma!

But that aside, I say the 'hero extras' are nice, and sure, maybe they all crossed paths in 'real time' and DC just never wrote about it. (stretch the imagination) But yeah, really, I'd like to see more maturation in the character. By way of power comparison, the CW Clark is still at the same level as the Movie Clark when he kicked the f-ing football in to orbit! And at this point, that's kinda sad. The show is waaay ahead on the timeline, but just as far behind on his development. Is he even still going to college, or did that just kinda fizzle when the script no longer called for it?

Smarten him up. Lose the 90210 drama. Let him fly.

Hahah Queen I think they will go with neither, they will go with there Clark. The Clark who can do nothing without checking with all his friends and then uses his brain and no powers to solve every problem other than to pop popcorn with his heat vision.

I agree with both of these.

With Lois, I think they only meant for her to stay briefly (just for part of Season 4), but the reception the character received from fans and the lack of direction for the series in general helped bring her back as a regular instead of just keeping her a reference to his future.

And Clark ending up at the planet was a case of having nowhere else to go. They killed off Jonathan too early, and he and Martha are like a package duo, so her character suffered, too, which led to her exit. Chloe was in Metropolis with Lois, Lionel and Lex were based there, and Oliver was there. The show's called Smallville, but nothing remained in Smallville, so why would Clark stick around?

And that brings me to my next point: the lack of direction. I honestly think the creators didn't anticipate it lasting as long as it has, so they started to wander along instead of focusing on an end they needed to progress to. They got a little ahead of themselves in places (like with Lois and Doomsday), and things like Supergirl, the Justice League, and the Legion have turned into cheap (but fun) ways to rekindle interest rather than important story elements for Clark Kent's character.

Yes, like maybe they were (are) afraid to pick a direction because of the always possible ending of the series. And then each time it's renewed, they're like "Oops! Now what?"

That is prolly the it right there. Every time they get a renewal they are like "Sweet...where do we go now?" I mean the show has no direction to really go in and they are just kind of wandering around in the dark.

Some of my thoughts on Smallville and some of the issuse brought up (because I just know EVERYONE cares :) ):

I think Clark, as a character, has developed very nicely from season one to today. He's gone through so much growth and "trials" and discoveries about himself and his powers and it has come along at a nice pace over the last 8 years. If nothing else, the show has done a good job of showing how "kid with powers" becomes Earth's greatest hero.

Now, once he GETS to that point...gets to becoming Superman, I think we all agree that the show will be over. Him becoming that hero will be the end. And I think it does need to come soon, probably within, ohhhhh.....one more season?

The JLA...anything having to do with them should be thought of as the show throwing fans the occasional bone. It doesn't take up a HUGE chunk of storyline. The person Clark becomes (Superman) interacticts with all of Earth's heroes on a regular basis. Clark's interaction with some of the young heroes in Smallville is just illuding to what will come. Also, I don't know how much hope I would hold out for a spinoff that lasted for any good length of time. Green Arrow is cool but without a few minor charaters by the names of Batman and Wonder Woman, you don't have a JLA.

Any fan still comparing Smallville to another continuity (be it the comic or movie), and setting their watch by one of those time lines is setting themselves up for disappointment. It's different, people. Just go with the flow.

Not a lot of TV shows last 9 seasons. If they do, not every storyline or plot point will be a winner. I know there are some things I could have done without in the show, but overall it's solid. There were a lot of good storylines (and no, not all of them fit with movie or comic continuity). If this season was stinking it up I'd be calling for an end. However...I'm interested to see what they can do with one more year.

I think at this point one thing all fans can agree on it that we better get one darn satisfying ending.

Since Lex apparently died in the last episode they could do the Lex Luthor II clone thing. Either have Rosenbaum come back with long hair or get another guy altogether. The introduction of the Lex clone could also pave the way for bringing in superboy if Doomsday kills Clark.

Hay guy, I don't wanna burst your bubbel..............well actualy yeah I do wanna burst it, but only for the sake of bringing you up to speed. You are aware that its been well established that Lex is most certainly alive & survived the explosion right?

& as for the hair thing..........hmm, you know what I was thinking? What if they had Rosenboum pay "homage" so to speak to Gean Hackman's Lex. Like how Hackman had his own hair for the better part of the movie, & at the end he wips it off as he declares & identifies him self as "LEX LUTHOR, THE GREATEST CRIMIAL MIND OF THE CENTURY"!! LOL

Lex (in smallville) has already expressed dissatisfaction with his baldness. Him comeing back with the mother of all tupes (hair pice) is not that far fetched.

I don't think I would be able to buy the toupee for more than 30 seconds. It'd be funny, to be sure, but the reason why it worked for the movies was because that's how we were introduced to the character. (And yeah, I was like WTF? at the time wondering why Lex had hair...) It still kinda weirds me out when I see Rosenbaum with hair in other media, like Sorority Girls. But that's 'cause we met him first as Lex. Besides, it's part of his aura of power, though it would make for an interesting Achilles' heel if the 'greatest criminal mind of the century' was really bogged down by the lack of hair!

Your right. There would be no end to my laughter if Mikey showed up on set with a rug on his head no matter how expensive LOL. BUT! men foolishly dump muli BILLIONS of dollars in to hair restoration each yeah......................so any thing that could match the Luthor fortune might not be that far fetched in terms of being Lex's weakness.

I love the idea of one of the richest men in America showing up with a crappy wig. It would be the greatest episode of the show ever.
