It is Hasbro's attempt to catch some of the success that the company Kid Robot has with their munny/dunny line.

this line makes an UNGODLY amount of money. VERY minimal tooling. nearly al just paint aps AND they can charge a premium.

 

i am still a sucker and caved and bought my first mighty muggs. SE an SS. they were 8.99 at target

I see the point; I think they have an artistic flair about them that's just fun and quirky. And I love the computer-graphicy look they seem to have. It's like they're weird, CGI, Mii-ish representations of cherished characters. I definitely dig 'em. I just have no space to display very many of them. I've been tempted to get the Star Wars Mighty Muggs before. I just don't have the extra money or space for the entire line-ups I would want to complete if I started these. (lol) So I'm trying to stay away from them for the time being.

l haven't collect mighty mugs but I do collect munnys which I like since you can add your own style to it. You can also do it with the MM as well, but l believe they only sell the blank ones at the hasbro shop
