Sucks for vintage MISB collectors...

This is completely stupid IMO. I understand retailers having to do this, but I hope it does not come down to private sellers, who sell through themselves or places like Ebay. First off anyone buying a Vintage figure is more then likely a Collector not a kid who is going to be eating paint off the figure. Second we have gone through years and years of toys with lead paint and I have never heard and stories saying; "We're sorry to report that little Johnny Mable has passed away. Doctor's say that little Johnny suffered from lead poisoning from chewing on his Optimus Prime figure. They are just getting to controling now a days.

Copied and pasted from poster Fort Max over at the AllSpark, because he says it much better than I:

http://www.cpsc.gov/library/foia/advisory/317.pdf

In a nutshell:

Children's products that exceed the lead limit are banned from store shelves, regardless of the date of manufacture.

The third-party testing requirement only applies to toys manufactured after September 2008.

Products cannot be banned unless they fail the required test.

Since there is no required test for items made before September 2008, they can't be banned.

Also, items manufactured after September 2008 would have already had samples of the production run tested, so that is already taken care of.

So it looks like nothing to get upset about.

Don't worry about it, it's just the media blowing everything out of proportion like they always do

this new law only effects products that contain lead. If you actually read the act, which the people that broke this story obviously didn't, you'll see the same thing

nothing will change

Most people keeps their stuff MISB for higher value in the future... But if places like EBay outlaws the sale of vintage Transformers there is really no point in keeping them that way...

besides, why open it? who in their right mind, is going to buy a $500 dollar vintage transformer toy, so they can give it to their kid to open and suck on it, and get lead poisening :P

cops sure are not going to be going around to fleamarkets and garage sales over this for sure ... though they do hit up flea markets now and then looking for stolen and illegal goods ...
