Inhumanoids in the Joeverse!

Do you think HASBRO can make 3 3/5 figures of the Inhumanoids (Humans) characters?

 

I remember the orginal figures too big for my taste, but the cartoon was similar to GI JOE in very aspects, like vehicles, villians, armory, etc...

 

I like how charcters were portrayed, Auger, Blackthorne, Nightcrawler, Sabre Jet, Dr. Derek Bright, Herc Armstrong, Tank, Jonathan Slattery, etc...

actually the heads used were 1:18th. I still have most of those figures.

It's funny you bring this up; I actually used to use my Liquidator figure as Airtight. Small world...

Inhumanoids just doesn't have the same nostalgia and staying power. To a lot of former 80s kids, it was nothing more than 'that one show with the giant monsters'. I didn't really discover the show myself until Rhino put 2/3 of the series on DVD, and while I love it... it's melodramatic and ridiculous on every single level. If you find that entertaining like I do, it's a great little gem, but the majority of people would probably stop watching after the first 5-10 minutes.

 

A 'classic' line, even at a 3 3/4" scale for the humans, would STILL require a trio of monsters over a foot tall for them to fight. Plain and simple, Hasbro's just not going to do that-- not when Matt Trakker can't even get one car! Since the monsters were the most popular part of the toyline, casual collectors won't care too much about these guys who they barely remember if the creatures aren't there too. Even most of the fans of the property aren't going to care much about new figures if they don't have the actual Inhumnoid monsters to go alongside them. The best bet for new Inhumanoids toys would be a relaunch of the brand, and even if that DID happen, most of the stuff would probably get redesigned.

I loved the cartoon, and I finnaly watched all the episodes in 2005!

 

They have great characters and stories.

By the way Metlar was my favorite Inhumanoid, from the Earth Corps, Liquidator, and from the mercenaries Blackthore and Nightcrawler.

I loved the episodes when Blackthorne used D-Compose to revive Dr.Mangler as Nightcrawler...

I've always that they should do ALL lines the same size. There are lots of people that mix Joe and Star Wars, for example.

 

They don't have to do them as part of G.I. Joe (or Star Wars, but that might actually work), just associated maybe, like the old Street Fighter.

 

I bet there are people that intend to use the upcoming Marvel figures with Joes too (in fact, there is already a thread).

Probably one of the only bigger toy lines of the 80's that I had no interest in. But since I support M.A.S.K. figures in the Joe line, I would be obligated to support these for the Inhumanoids fans!

I insist on Hasbro putting out Herc Armstrong to gauge interest. If Specialist Trakker can get a release, Specialist Armstrong might go over well. I'd probably insist they make him the size of a RoboJOE just to look more badass.

but hell, I am all for pretty much any 80's toy line getting some attention.

 

I mean seriously, there is an untapped gold mine of 80's properties just waiting for toy makers.

 

I can't recall who made what, but I know Hasbro has all their stuff and the Kenner stuff.. so they could do lots.

 

 

Some 80's properties I would love to see again (not reissues, new figures based on the classic looks)... I mean I couldn't possibly pass on these:

I'd much rather see 25A Joe-style COPS figures.

 

Oddly, the Inhumanoids Earth Corps figures almost were 1:18th scale...those suits were considerably larger than "man sized" in the toon.

That's just the thing; these figures basically were Joe-scale size. Just like you said, they were wearing oversized mech suits. When you took their helmets off, they were indeed Joe-sized...at least the heads underneath the helmets were. (lol)

Since the new GI JOE Resolute cartoon is a little bit dark with more violence on it, Inhumanoids fits very well in today's appeal for violence and dark stories...

GIJOE has NEVER been realistic--I mean--seriously........do you need examples???

And stuff like this makes GIJOE fun, which is really what its supposed to be.

Actually... no. When I was a kid, I thought Ninja Force was awesome. Never got into Star Brigade, which is funny because it's MUCH closer to my interests...

 

Anyway, trying to keep Joe 'pure' has always been a lost cause. As more and more adults come back to the property who grew up with Ninja Force, Star Brigade, and so on, the more you're going to find people who don't mind it at all. They never knew GI Joe as the straight realistic military concept that the purists claim it was founded on.

 

GI Joe was 'futuristic' from the first wave. Flash the Laser Trooper can tell you all about it.

Well, as someone who really didn't care for Cobra-La, that's just another nail in the coffin.

 

However, I wouldn't have a problem if they brought Cobra-La back in the 'modern' era line, per se. I wouldn't buy it myself, but at least it's 'Joe'. I just don't like the idea of merging lines. As I've said before, I'm all for bringing back 80's toy properties, just bring them back on their own merits, not piggy backed onto the Joe revival. I for one would love to see things like Visionaries, Silverhawks, etc...and I'd kill for the Dungeons and Dragons line of the 80's to see a modern revisitation.

Hmmm, Hasbro does own Dungeons and Dragons now....

 

Some of those figures done in "modern" style (articulation/paint/accessory wise) would be friggin' awesome. Warduke and Northwind in particular.

 

Either way, Arrow is right: G.I. Joe had sci-fi/fantasy elements in it from the get-go. Flash was just the start, Zartan and his "chameleon" abilities happened along not long after (accompanied by a "Mad Max" style motorcycle gang, no less). Star Brigade and Cobra La took it to their extremes, but Hasbro has pretty much always seen the 80's era Joe as "Military Fantasy" with just as much emphasis on the "Fantasy" as the "Military."
