WHY DO Some People Like Paying Scalper Prices For Joes

I just couldn't belive it.

I went to Target this morning and there it was, I saw it w/ my very own eyes, the Target Exclusive Ultimate Battle Pack on clearance for $44.09. And they had 3 of them on the shelf along w/ 4 jets on clearence also for $17.49.

I'm sure probably, within a week or two it will probably retail less than that and thats when I will pick up another one.

Now if you live overseas, then I can understand why you would have to use ebay and pay a little more than retail for the exclusives, but if you live in the USA which most of us do, then there is just know excuse.

You see, thats why I can't see how some idiots paid over $200.00+ dollars for this thing when all they had to do is just wait. I mean what is it when it comes to GI Joe, its like idiots don't care what the price is they just gotta have now. And having it now means your gonna pay the price for it now which will be over 4times the retail price. Idiots

Just be patient thats all. But no!!, everbody panics and then quickly runs to there precious BBTS, ebay or Brian's toys and then droppeds hundrends more than what it retails for in the store. Just like that sucker who paid $1000.00 for that Target Exclusive Cobra Rattler, I sill can't get over that one, that dummy could have gotten many other things w/ that money instead of some cheap ass plastic made in china toy which is still sold in Target today.

I think the reason why some people are impatient when it comes to joes is that when something first comes out they have fear that they will never find it.

But I say if you wait you will find it.

PS I have up 4 sale a "YELLOW STALKER" thats right I said it, a YELLOW STALKER.

I will let it go for $2000.00. That price is right up yous alley you shouldn't have a problem w/ that. Because after all you pay over $500.00+ for pimp daddy Destros, Roddy Roddy Pipers and other varients.

So I say $2000.00 is a steal.

Sucker!!!!!!!!!!!

the UB set cost like 68 bucks after taxes...

now.. say you loved this thing, don't have many Targets around you, or have a lot of collectors near you.... then it might be worth paying a bit more to many people to get one in their hands.

I have at least a dozen Targets that I visit occasionally... I only saw this thing at a few of them.

So if I really wanted one, couldn't get it myself easily.. I wouldn't mind at all paying 20 bucks extra or whatever to get it.

anyhow... that's why some people would pay scalper prices for it... it's just the best option for them

just because you can walk into your Target and get one on clearance, doesn't make that the norm.

Yes, its true that people can spend there money on what they want and how they want because after all, its there money.

But the part I don't understand is the crazy insane prices some people would spend on joes.

Like the Target Exclusive Rattler that sold for $1000.00 on ebay.

Now if this buyer wanted to pay out the ass for an Rattler why didn't he get it from Brian's Toys or some other ebay auction because Brian's Toys sales it for $69.99 and I've seen plenty of other ebay auctions that sale the Target Exclusive Rattle for hundreds less than $1000.00.

Now you tell me, A Target Exclusive Rattler is not worth $1000.00 when these things are still warming the shelves in Target and has decided to put them on clearence. Hey, not even the original 1985 Rattler goes for that much even in its sealed box.

It kinda makes me want to start a scalping business if people are spending that kinda money on joes. Its like going fishing you put the bait out there and sooner or later some sucker will give into it and when he bites it, thats when you reel him in.

Some people just don't have a brain. Wait, they do have a brain they just don't know how to use it.

Like Clamato said, not everyone has a Target in their backyard, yes... some of us are blessed and have a good 50 Targets in driving range like I do, but to be honest, most don't, some don't even know what a Target looks like on the inside and only know it by name and the interwebs...

That is the main reason some people pay those prices.. yes.. some are due to impatience, but for the most part, if you look at a lot of those auctions, well, in the old days when US TARGET exclusives would be sold on ebay, you could check the winners and they were overseas... now you can't really check winners info with the way ebay is set up.

Now, if you'll notice your post, I outlined a couple parts, seeing you can't take a hint, and don't seem to want to stop, and PMing you is like talking to a brick wall.. those are the very reasons why your threads are locked.. cause whether or not scalping is wrong, or buying from scalpers is wrong, some people if they want to collect, have no choice, and in doing so, you're insulting them in your posts calling them idiots, morons and suckers and what not.. and to me, that's worse that anything a scalpers does...

If you really want to do something about it or make a stand against scalpers, buy up all those exclusives you see and sell them to boardies or collectors who can't get them. When I grew up, I lived in parts of TX where it'd take a little over an hour to go to the local rundown Wal-Mart, and other than that, and the local beat up grocery store, that was the only way for us to get toys(besides knock off stuff at flea markets).. if I wanted to go to TRU, guess what, that was over 2 hours, probably more cause I don't think that TRU was there back then so we probably had to go to one even farther away for Birthdays or whatever...

Anyway, if it bothers you that much, then do something about it in a positive way, I've done it in the past, ask many international Joe boardies here, I've helped a number of them get loads of exclusives and save a ton of money..

If not, guess what, posts like that are just looked at as you trying to start crap, trolling the boards stirring up crap... so there ya go. There's a long winded answer to your rant of a thread the other day... welcome back, hope you can stay back for a while...

-Joe

PS:please show us proof of your $1000 rattler auction, and if you have a Yellow Stalker, I'll take a loose one for $7 plus shipping... ;)

Dude, if they're not asking you for a loan, who cares what they do with their money???

And if you only find fault with this T-O-Y line, then you need to find alternate outlets for yourself.....seriously. Find a support group or something. I'm quite sure that 'Whiney Heathers Anon' continually takes on new members....

Got a news flash. It's not limited to just G.I. Joe nor is it limited to toys. You want to see nuts? Just check out the Pez section over on eBay. You should see what some people would pay for something that you can buy in the store for less than a buck and a half. And don't get me started on Hot Wheels.

I know these threads are old hat, but there is a point here that people seem to disregard. Sure, it is nobody's business what some dope is willing to drop on a toy they want to get. However, lets say you want the target exclusives and can't find them. If you still want them, you are down to buying them from a scalper. And yes, in this case BBTS IS a scalper. $70 is almost 200% profit. If people actually pay this outrageous price, it sets the bar at that level. Now that becomes the "low" price. The reality is obvious. If people only paid a reasonable price and said, "I'll wait for the prices to come down," they would come down. Pay a ridiculous price and you are hurting everyone else who needs to buy something on the secondary market.

And don't even get me started on the people who spend that outrageous price because they need to have something first. It's a sad cry for attention. "Look at me! I got it a week ahead of you! Go me!" Very sad. Want to impress me? Get to a hot girl before I do. Then I'll be jealous.

how would it be a sad cry for attention if the person who buys it simply gets it and adds it to their collection without any publicizing that they got it? it isn't. so maybe there is another reason why they buy it.

He's also forgetting the fact that nearly EVERYTHING can be acquired for the right price if your patient. Let those people who "gotta have it now" HAVE it now. If you want it, you can find it in your price range down the road. The secondary market is NOT just Ebay or BBTS.

for me, the reason i pay scalper prices for toys is...well.."I hate money!" every week they keep giving me more of it... and my wallet gets fat, my back hurts from sittin on it, my chiropractictor bitches at me for it. plus since they changed the look of most of our american dollars it doesnt even seem like real money any more? looks like birthday nappkins or that fake money we used to buy as kids in the toy aisle of the grocery store. ive even started to wipe my ass with 20's i would use a lower denomination but i like andrew jackson..plus his hair is already messed up anyway sooo...

this may just be me???

I agree with you $70 is way to expensive for a target exclusive, but how do you know it's 200% profit for BBTS? My guess it's not. My guess is a store like BBTS to even get their hands on something like that had to pay a fair amt to get it. I don't think that its fair to call a retailer a scalper or more accurately accusing them of price gouging just because they sell a product at a high price.
