No, they are not.

They are not based solely on the comics either. They are a sort of "idealized amalgamation" of all the cool aspects of GIJOE. That's the idea behind them.

However, I wonder what the deal with the BATS on that same page is? From the way he makes it sound, it's from an army builder pack. That would be cool, if we're getting a BAT pack in the future.

 

If it hasn't been mentioned already, that BAT should be part of the Reso 5 pack coming out with the new Joe and Cobra 5 packs. A BAT pack is going to have to be a store exclusive.

I've thought about it a bit and decided I was wrong, that if you guys want to look at these type of images and discuss it you should have the right to do so. I do think rushing to a snap decision one way or another about figures in early stages like this is somewhat unproductive but I will let you make that judegment for yourself and not try and force it upon you. So I am reopening this thread and feel free to discuss away.

As much as they look like bad customs, I'm holding out till more information comes along. Is it me, or does Breaker's head look a little like Brawler?

I was tempted to think that Breaker was a customized Torpedo until I researched and found that it's not his upper body like I thought. These may very well be the real thing. I'm still looking forward to the final product. I'm insanely excited about this line and the film...

I can tell that the movie is gonna be a popcorn flick, like the rest of Sommers films. I mean, The Mummy films were good, as was Van Helsing.

 

However, the figures do look better and perhaps they'll do well on the pegs

Yeah...you know that there are points in each of these films that make me chuckle a little, but I still love them, especially Van Helsing. They're just fun movies that you don't have to think much about, and I think that approach is perfect for G.I. Joe. I don't want another Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan. I want a good fun romp, and I think this film will be...hopefully.

I kinda want a combination of the two. Gritty military realism with some campy bits thrown in. You can't tell me that the Joe mythos isn't ripe with campy already. It does look like we'll get some campy bits but as always wait unitl we see the final product. As far as the figures go I'll probably be skipping a whole bunch of them if not all. But vehicles and playsets (rumored) may be a different story!

Oh yeah, I didn't mean I want a Batman & Robin campfest. (lol) I too want some realistic elements. But I want some cool fantastical elements as well. You know, like in the Valor vs. Venom CGI movie a couple years back, when Kamakura slices the wing off of that Cobra fighter in mid-air. That was highly unlikely and over-the-top, but very cool nonetheless. You're right FF; a little of both would be nice.

well, I know Sommers movies. It will be both campy, slightly cheesy but have good effects and action. I mean, the Mummy films did have some great action scenes and great special effects.
