Possible Movie Figure Images

These are supposedly images of the Baroness and Breaker from the movie toy line:

DISCLAIMER - THESE ARE NOT CONFIRMED.

That said, it looks like I'll be dropping the line once the movie toys start to hit shelves. These are pretty much what I figured they'd look like, so if these are real, I have no interest in them.

However, I wonder what the deal with the BATS on that same page is? From the way he makes it sound, it's from an army builder pack. That would be cool, if we're getting a BAT pack in the future. :)

I do believe (but am too lazy to look for it) there was some sort of rumblings about army builder BAT packs as a TRU exclusive in the Q & A's

I don't care for the (rumoured) movie figs. But I never do. TF, X-Men, Batman, Spider-man etc. etc. I always pass on the movie figures. They never seem to do it for me. I may pick up some Joe movie figs for custom parts though, all the other movie lines can't make that claim with me.

OOh Ooh! I can't believe these are finally confirmed! Thanks DarthJoe for bringing the confirmed truth to us! Oh, wait, this is the internet, not everything is true. I'm not sure you made the point clear enough for JayC's friends, we could have a riot, lol.

Back on topic, though, these look just okay, IMO. They look like rough prototypes, with somewhat sloppy paint apps. I hope they do improve on that somewhat before a final release, IF these are legitimate protos.

Thanks for the link, DJ. I love the speculation and fun that this kinda stuff brings to our hobby.

If you haven't seen any of the Resolute figs in person, they really hold up well. I love them. I was pretty resistant to them in concept, but in hand, I can't get enough of them. They are great update to classic characters. I am a RAH purist at heart, but to me, these are just a continuation of that tradition. Pick up Duke first, IMO.

Assuming these are the actual figures...

They do look like rough protos, as the sculpts look somewhat unrefined compared to recent GIJOE items. They look terribly rushed if they are genuine.

Breaker , as is, looks like a wannabe reject from a "Miami Vice"-something. I suspect the figure might have some web gear or added items that up the look--which would be the "deal-breaker" (PUN!!) with him.

Baroness looks meh--Hasbro has done better female characters in the GIJOE line.

These look worse than expected, at this stage.

The BATS are interesting though................but then multiple BATS are always interesting.........

I usually pass on movie lines as well. Star Wars, I guess, has been the exception. As for the rest, Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four... They all suffer from the same problems...

1) You never get the entire "Universe" of the characters in the movie. You usually get only the five or six core characters that appear in the flick. You'll never see a "complete" X-Men movie line. You'll never see a "movie" Sunfire or a "movie" Polaris unless they happen to turn up in a sequel. You just get the core cast and that's it. Once again, Star Wars has remarkably proven the exception here.

2) Not only do you only get a core cast of five characters, you might get ridiculous "battle armor" variations of those core characters. In those Batman movie lines, you usually got a hundred ludicrously-colored Batmen and the movie's bad guy.

3) The manufacturers usually try to slavishly capture some sort of resemblance to the actors in the figures' sculpts. The end result is usually an awkward likeness and a huge out of proportion head. I'd rather have a Batman figure than a weird Michael Keaton figure.

4) The stores, whether through their own fault, contractual obligations or whatever, usually order MOUNTAINS of these figures and they usually end up clogging the pegs in some cases for years! Hey! You can still go to TRU and complete your Superman Returns collection! I usually by-pass the half of an aisle devoted to Batman figures to check out the one usually empty peg devoted to DC Universe Classics.

All this having been said, I foolishly had hopes that GI JOe might prove the exception here. Yeah. My hopes for this film are pretty low but I figured "How can you go wrong making a bunch of military-themed soldiers in the 25th style? There had to be something I might talk myself into picking up." Looking at Baroness and Breaker though, they look worse than I imagines. It looks like I'll be easily by-passing the movie line.

On another topic, I was pleasantly surprised by the Resolute Cobra Trooper. Wow! What a nice figure! I guess I was being optimistic in thinking the movie line might provide the same kind of surprise.

Part of the problem stems from this belief that consumers are driven by their associations to a property.

If its in TV or movies, it has to be like the stuff in the movie otherwise it "doesn't count". Its almost like someone else telling you this is how it should be, and a lot of people seem to accept it.

The sad thing is that there's a LOT of evidence to back this up.

IMO, I think it creates a lot of bland looking toys, that are limited by the design limitations of a movie or TV show.

If toys are meant to spark and fuel the imagination, then why not make imagination the driving force behind designing the toys to begin with?

Rather than programming an audience to robotically buy into the toys because they are in the movie--why not take the toys to the next level.

I could care less if the Baroness likeness is a bang-on Sienna Miller caricature--I want the toy to have its own reason for being--outside of the movie role.

Toybiz's initial X-men 3 "movie" line is a good example.........it had almost nothing to do with the movie!

The characters were far more interesting looking than any of the characters in the movie, but........you know what people complained about most?

They had nothing to do with the movie.

Spoken like the programmed drones they are............<sigh>

Its a "no-win" thing really, because audiences and consumers are so thoroughly indoctrinated and programmed to buy only what they can associate with, and something new considered something to be wary of. Its like choosing to subsist on a diet of pablum.

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but they look obviously hand-painted to me... and not even with the usual skill that goes into a hand-painted proto. The paint looks horribly clumpy and... shiny. Very, very shiny skin on Breaker there.

There's a part of me that seriously thinks these are just amateur customs, because the quality looks so much lower than the usual work.

These figures look more like something someone made on their own. I put absolutely know faith in them being movie figures. They just seem too sloppy to be even a prototype.

I agree with everything you said! I just recently found all three and love them. I'm even down with the tweaking to the box logo. If I'm going to back any underdog Joe line, it'll be Resolute.

Movie toys? So far, nothing exciting.

I agree and was thinking the same thing. While the guy gi joe figures head looks like it could be real. the b. a. t. s is an easy one just paint the claw black and baroness could be a easy repaint.

China and or hong kong is real bad for saying there protos and it not being. I see alot of DCUC and other figures that are protos or said to be. But if you save the pic from e bay and blow it up you can see its just a reg figure paints gray or just the figures with the paint stripped off. Its hard as hell for a regular person to get there hands on a real prtot type.

If some one does by chance there always some kinda documention from the company saying it is. I remember not long ago i saw a Dc superheroes steel on e bay as a proto. When I saved it and blew it up on my pc I could see where the red was still showing through the gray paint. Also have seen some joe's where the paint was still clearly showing though the gray.

Best example I got is the shipwreck comic pack figure where I saw the orange still bleeding through the gray paint.

Actually, the majority of authentic prototypes that get sold were stolen from the factories. Most companies don't sell their protos, regardless of whether they have a reason to keep them, so they wouldn't really be interested in making any documents that proved they were real and enhanced collectibility. Hasbro in particular is pretty vocal about not liking their prototypes getting out.

And the prototypes DO get stolen and sold all the time... but as you note, there are also a lot of 'forged' protos. If there's a market for a product, there's always someone trying to scam it.

Recently a rumored 3 pack of vipers/grenadiers and a mars background surfaced. I really liked those, they had a dark realistic feel where something and had great detail. I honestly got my hopes up a little bit about the movie toys. Boy are these a kick in the pants. They are very plain, breaker's arms really stand out to me. I know soliders are not body builders, but he looks like his biceps have attrapheed (sp?) at the keyboard!

Movie lines do have problem being confined with bland designs that are usually geared to make things more accessible and as of late, less unique. Star wars is of coursed based on movies! so it's a big exception as someone mentioned before me.

As for the bat pack, yeap i can dig it. Wonder if we will get 5 together or 4 with that mindbender that's been coming somewhere somehow for awhile now.
