Specialist Trakker?

Recommended Posts

I got this guy today and.....is the GI Joe line going to have more M.A.S.K. figures as part of the line, or was this just a test run/in-joke?

Dont flinch... in reality it is a great question and one that has been put forth to the Hasbro folks by just about every website in the Q and A sessions.

We keep receiving a resounding NO!

They said it was a one time tribute, and not to expect anything else from M.A.S.K. or any other non-joe toyline to show up on Joe cardbacks.

If you feel like you've just been teased and then had your doggy bone taken away from you.. you're not alone!

I'm thinking it was more of a friendly nod to the collectors who crave everything 80's.

I think it WAS a test.

Maybe not necessarily for 4" M.A.S.K. figures since it was the vehicles that made the line and 1:18 size M.A.S.K. vehicles would NOT be easy to do.

But MAYBE a resurgence of the original toys? Hasbro owns the rights to the line (so far as I know having acquired Kenner), this figure is proof they are still thinking about it.

At the very least, I think they may be wondering how some of the 'also-rans' would go over. Many of the GI Joe fans grew up with MASK, Centurions, COPS, Inhumanoids, etc... all things that would actually work pretty well for random 'guest appearances' or even as a 'special edition' wave. Heck, I could see doing DVD sets similar to the Joe ones, using mostly recycled parts and allowing for a build-a-figure/device/vehicle to really hype things up.

It would allow Hasbro to 'test the water' for a new line, or just do away with the need for a separate line and make GI Joe an 'umbrella' brand (kinda like the Street Fighter II stuff... but good). Some things could become part of the Joe line wholesale- I know I wouldn't mind an Inhumanoids/Mega-Marines subline. :) It also allows them to renew/re-establish copyrights, and could bring in some people who don't normally buy Joes, or maybe KEEP some fans who are getting frustrated.

While currently they are not planning on any further inductions of the MASK line into G I Joe, I tend to think with enough positive feedback, they may change their minds. For example, how can you have a Matt Trakker without a Miles Mayhem (unless you play it to where Miles is one of the many CC repaints...)

Basically, I would think if the buyers mentioned it enough, it might appeal to them more.

I would not mind more, but only if the figure is better than this piece of crap.

I think they could make a box set with a few more figures. While the vehicles did make the line, the masks the figures wore were also cool. I wouldn't mind a Bruce Sato or Alec and Buddy with Jackrabbit/Penetrator masks (it's not like Boulder Hill is going to be re-released anyway!).

I dont think this was a test at all. Most of the collectors will buy this figure no matter what. So there is no way to get accurate results from a "test" where your selling to mostly completionistic collectors. alot of peeps dont like the fig, but they have one..

There is a guy, I dont remmeber his name, who dsits on the board at Hasbro, and he is a huge MASK fanboy. At least thats what some pretty "in the know" collectors told me.. If they DID in fact start putting in more mask figs in joe waves I think It would just piss of alot of the joe fans. This is a JOE line, not mask. The one figure was cool, I love the filecard tie in, but i hope thats it. If they wanna do any more cross in do a SGT.Savage or Extreme figure.

I loved MASK, but it was more for the vehicles/figure combos than it was for any of the characters themselves. I mean, I really don't give a crap about any of the characters without their vehicles. However, I am a sucker for nostalgia, and I picked up Matt Trakker too... Althought I really dislike the mold they used for him. That ACE mold should get put away forever.

I really don't mind Hasbro including stuff like this in the modern era toyline. In my opinion, it's MUCH better than random repaints of characters that we don't need. I mean, would you rather have the ugly new blue Firefly, or a new MASK character?

If Hasbro is listening, I think that COPS would best fit in with the Joes. I mean you could really make just about any of those guys in the line and nobody would blink. In fact, it would be pretty AWESOME. give me a COPS Sgt. Mace, and a dozen other COPS characters, and I would be sooo happy.

I disagree. This line is G.I. JOE not M.A.S.K. And this figure/character is not a G.I. Joe character. I don't believe very many people bought the Hulkbuster figures even though they used G.I. Joe bodies.

I don't believe there IS such a thing as a "completist" anymore anyway. Nobody is so enamored of a product line to buy everything offered. There is always going to be specimens of the product line that a consumer will not like.

This would be a moot question/discussion if they just did a "universe" style line.

I'd rather have a new G.I. Joe character like Techno-Viper, Jinx, Hit & Run or Crimson Guard Immortal than either. @firedevil@

I used to think the same thing, then I saw some shows about various fan collectors who have THOUSANDS of items in their collections, who proclaim they do indeed collect every variation.

Completists are out there, and while they may not be common, they are no rare either.

...and yet there are indeed people who will buy simply EVERYTHING, sometimes while they simultaneously complain their heads off about not liking it. It really doesn't take much effort to find a few of them at this very board.

That's in addition to the people who cry as though they're expected to buy everything. I've been known to do that one from time to time. ;)

From what we know of hasbro is they like to try to hide or deny things in the q & a's. then a month or 2 down the pike, we see what they denied about to hit shelves.

The one way I could see Matt Trakker as a test is in the stores or (online for that matter), that the figures wouldn't be selling. Yes there are completists, but outside of having to buy a case for a set etc, most people would avoid this if they didnt like it. Even as a somewhat completist, and if I was just collecting gi joe, I could skip this, like if cops came into the brand I could skip those too if I chose, but I like them and was really looking forward to the matt trakker figure. I just got my case yesterday in the mail, and am happy with the Matt Trakker figure especially (pilot scarlet not so much). I have to say I hate Zartans new mini clown vehicle. Matt's vehicle was ok, but like everyones already said, its all about the real vehicles and masks.

I would love to see a MASK spin off line and would pay for the bigger vehicles. I have to say the MASK filecard was awesome and could see mask fitting into the Joe world (not on a permanent basis mind you). Spytroops comes to mind as a semi first test, and Hasbro said that went really well.

Im still hoping they make a Joe sized Condor from mask(the green bike that turned into a helicoptor). Man I loved that toy as a kid. The only bummer is it never fit joes, to get one that fit joes would just kill me. It would be like I was 12 all over again, its just one of those toys that I played with so much it actually fell apart.

I will buy any M.A.S.K. related items regardless if its a seperate line or part of G.I.Joe....I have most of the originals and I love to get more.

the head sculpt looked really nice, but honestly i can't think of a place for him with my joes and he just simply isn't a Joe. There are just too many good joe chars even if they go to Sgt. Savage or extreme or heck sigma six before i wanted to see a mask character. Granted some of the cops chars are cool too, but give me joe please!
