So decent you posted this today I just got the score tonight too! here is my story:

 

I was sick yesterday missed worked

Missed my ex-chick, been 2 weeks since I last saw and talked to her

(Bummer she was really cool)

Having trouble with my last class at school

Came into work handling issues far above my pay grade

Went to school this evening took a final I didn't study for

Took a shot to go to Walmart and Toys R Us

Got to Walmart saw a huge stack of stock, lots of Mattel couldn't see any DC, went to the back and saw a mother load of toys in stock, went back to the pile before leaving and went around the side and saw 2 cases of DCUC WAVE 5, ripped them open and removed the 2 extra Riddlers

 

I have never found such an awesome and expensive score this early in the game. Even kept the case for prosperity....WHAT A DAY...South Philly Walmart has finally paid through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah.. these figures are dang hard to find... I am surprised that ebay prices are dropping,, my guess is they will shoot up soon after people realize they aren't going to find them on the shelves

thanks man, she was a very beautiful lady and we had loads of fun but our futures were going in different paths....sigh*, anyway It was the Walmart in south Philadelphia on Columbus blvd. I left 2 Riddlers from one of the cases, but I got a glimpse of their warehouse, it was packed with purple colored cases, so hopefully they have more in the back. I never luck up which is why I order online but I have been forced to the stores with all these year end exclusives, ML Walmart and Target waves, DCUC TRU and Walmart packs I am beat, not used to hunting anymore, its cheaper to actually order online than hunting 4 times out of the week.

 

I do hope these become common, that was originally noted that these would ship longer than the standard wave because they were exclusives.

I know the feeling exactly. You really can't beat seeing an untouched sealed case. I wasn't as fortunate as you were in finding wave 5 at a local store or two cases at the same time.

 

I had to do an overnight trip stopping at several Walmart stores finding one case at one store and then a partial set(only one missing was The Atom). Then I went out of town this week and found another factory sealed case of wave 5 sitting on a pallet. I try to have two of everything(one to open and another to keep unopened). There was a member at another board who had contacted months ago to look out for the set and I plan to let him have this one.

 

And I was actually surprised because I have only seen stock being put out starting at around 10pm but this was in the middle of the day. I guess it had to do with the holidays and wanting to put out new merchandise continuously. Thankfully I'm all caught up as far as DCUC is concerned with having completed waves two, three, four, and five, the TRU 2 packs except for the Sinestro Corps Sinestro which I did finally found today at KBs but unfortunately he looked like Freddy Krueger with his hands and face all melted like he had been in a fire. As bad as I wanted him I just couldn't bring myself to buy it.

 

So now just have to wait for wave 6. I need the lull from all the energy expended on trying to find everything. Mattel hopefully will get their distribution, quality control and release of assortments under control. This has to be one of, if not, the most demanding action figure lines to collect. Between the difficulty in just finding a set, then finding a set without problems, then finding the variants and ones without problems, then having about 28 figures come out in such a short span of time--almost on top of each other--it has been a real chore. I'm sure you can appreciate the time devoted to calling the various stores several times a day, going out and personally looking just in case the clerk said they looked but really didn't or was completely clueless as to what you were inquiring about. In fact, I really haven't had a chance to sit down and really enjoy the figures and look at them because just finding them has been a chore. Plus, I've tried picking up some extra of the various DCUC stuff for other colectors to help them out.

 

I ordered my He man/Beastman, got my Amok Time 2 pk on the way, got my Retro Khan figure from Star Trek and have all my Movie Masters up to date except for the Fear Toxin which I hope to find in the next few days. So maybe now I can take a break.:lol:

well.. since we haven't seen that happen with any wave of DCUC so far.. and this wave is ONLY at Walmart... and only a tiny fraction of walmart stores even carry DCUC in the first place.... I highly doubt that will happen

I found one set plus an extra Riddler.

I kept Eradicator and one Riddler and sold the rest to my friend who was looking for them. I just didn't care about those guys.

Kinda disappointed with Riddler. He's too tall. He towers over my MM Joker and that mold isn't that great. Eradicator, however, is cool. Now we need a Superboy to round out the Reign of Superman guys.

The other Walmart that I checked told me that she already ordered 90....that is 90!!! (I am thinking 90 cases) So we might see some flooding in the near future, but for the moment I am still waiting. So just wait and see and be patient and for the meantime I won't waste my money on Ebay for these.

I also couldn't belive i found a black lighting which I didn't have so now the erad and atom are all I need for the set.

Take a Break? . . . Take a break? There's no taking a break in toy collecting. That is how they keep us coming back, give us just enough of the product, then show us pictures of the new product to make us crave more, more, more.

We do know a lot of fans are frustrated about not finding Wave 5 yet and the fact that is it is only available at Wal-Mart. To provide a bit more information, doing the exclusive wave of figures with a partner like Wal Mart opens the door to the mainline items. Remember a year ago when Wal-Marts didn't carry DCU figures? The exclusive wave was part of an over all strategy worked out with Wal Mart to bring DCUC figures to their toy aisles!

 

We will continue to work with all of our retail partners to ship as much product as they place orders for. And as always, if you are not seeing your favorite Mattel toys in your local retailer, the best thing you can do is talk to the manager of their toy department. This is the person who orders for the store. Mattel will ship product to all of our customers who place orders!

 

Hope this helps a bit. And be assured lots more product is shipping. Sales are higher then they have ever been and continue to grow with fan support. Which all means we are able to ship more and more units and get them into the hands of collectors everywhere!

To further clarify, Mattel ships product to Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart decides which and how many stores to place product in. But the news we hear is that DCUC is doing GREAT at Wal Marts and they will be increasing the number of stores carrying the figures in 2009!

 

This was a response from ToyGuru, a Mattel insider, about wave 5 and the frustration by collectors.

 

What he apparently doesn't understand is contacting the local toy manager does no good. They can't order these items unless their store is designated to carry them which is determined by the main Wal Mart buyers/merchandisers at the corporate level. And what good is Wal Mart carrying DCUC if not all the Wal Marts are carrying them. When only 15% of them do then it is essentially a situation where Wal Mart might not even carry the items. And correcting the distribution problem in 2009 won't do any good for those that will miss out on this wave.

 

It really is astonishing how Mattel has handled this popular and successful line. It is almost as if they are sabotaging themselves with the distribution problems and quality control issues.
