I picked up the Mainframe and Beachhead comic pack.

Overall I liked it a lot. I don't know if this brightly colored Beachhead is going to supplant my first Beachhead but I did use his spare head to individualize one of my green shirts.

My questions concern Mainframe, who I was not very familiar with as a character.

1. According to his filecard, Mainframe joined the Army Airborne and then left to pursue his degree. Once he got his degree, he joined the Marines. Why isn't he an officer? With a degree and his professional achievements, he should be a shoe-in for OCS.

2. Is Mainframe really rich? According to his filecard, he made "big bucks" in Silicon Valley.

3. What are those symbols on his uniform? Specifically, I'm talking about the three stars on his chest and the red symbol on his left sleeve. Are these actual military decorations?

4. Is the gun Mainframe equipped with an actual existing firearm? I know this is the same weapon that vintage Dial Tone came with but I was wondering if it is an authentic gun.

Thanks.

Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you automatically get selected for OCS....the person needs to apply and kinda has to want to be an Officer. The pay is way more......but there are guys that are enlisted that want nothing to do with being an officer. Its entirely up to that individual if they want to go Officer or not.

I really like the 2-pack......although Mainframe kinda has a pissed off look to him. Maybe he's still mad at Zarana for dissing him or the fact that he seems to have lost his backpack.... ;)

Maybe he's mad that there isn't a Zarana in the new line for him to make googly-eyes at! :)

I figured he was pissed at being dead and then brought back with the wrong name....

can one of you guys who has the comic pack answer some quick questions. Does the Beachhead alternate head still have half the face covered or is he fully unmasked? or even possible to fully unmask him if he isn't?

any help would be appreciated.

I am holding mine in my hand right now. He has a full alternate head (with handlebar mustache and soul patch). The half face is just putting the half balaclava on when swapping heads.

G.I.Joe seems to have the best educated enlisted guys, anyways. Airborne went to Law School, Duke was fluent in three languages before joining the Army, and Flint (who wasn't even a full-fledged WO until Eco-Warriors) was a Rhode's scholar. I guess not everybody is motivated by better pay and "career advancement". Certain Joes are specialists and they enjoy just doing their thing.

Exactly, it's the whole 'elite' part of 'elite special missions force'. They're the best of the best, pulled from all the branches of the armed forces, civilian equivalents, and (apparently) ninja schools to form the top fighting unit. They serve and sacrifice because they want to apply their skills and abilities to a higher ideal, not because they have to in order to pay the bills.

And then there's Shipwreck... can't have the 'best of the best' all the time, I suppose.
