0eBay Cuts 1600 Jobs, 10 Percent Of Its Work Force, And I'm So Happy

No repsonse from idj?

I'd wager the guy's been suspended. I can't imagine no one reported his original post.

What is there to report? There's no rule on the TNI forums about making a stupid statement, only about making statements that attack other posters.

Anyone can make a bone-headed comment, so the dog-pile on the guy is a bit over the top.

Still, its pretty much a classic "WTF?" post that I'm surprised was said at all..........

What part of that would prevent someone from reporting it anyway, and/or a mod for suspending the person anyway?

I don't disagree with you, I'm just saying that it's a possibility, regardless of the actual rules and policies. It would certainly explain the sudden and complete silence coming for the direction of the OP... although I'll grant that utter embarrassment may also be the reason.

mostly because anyone with brains can figure out pretty quick there's a tough crowd in here.

Darn right. I still remember when Clam told his infamous 'shopping for the perfect tea cozy' tale. The carnage! The bloodbath! The doilies!

I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in here. The guy that started this, saying that Scalpers caused the job losses of all those ebay staff is a complete and total idiot. I believe its time that the poster went back to the brain hospital for a retuning.

Secondly. I feel sorry for each and every one of those ebay staff around the world. I wish them the best of luck with finding new jobs and I hope they're not unemployed for long.

I have not yet seen this policy. If that is the case and Paypal is the ONLY payment option available, I can see e-bay causing it's own downfall. But what other auction website will rise up in its place?

So you haven't been paying any attention to your in box on your eBay page?

Well they first tried it in Australia...

They failed to impress the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission...

Here is the policy...

No, I haven't been paying attention to my ebay inbox.

But, is it that hard to list all auctions as Paypal, or "Payment on Pickup"?

It allows e-bay to say "Hey, you got screwed by a bad check... Checks are against our policy, we don't allow them." The risk is now for the buyer in the beginning. But there's not much difference between several years ago and now. :)

I'm against eBay changing its policies and then making it so ONLY PayPal works with eBay. There's so many other auction sites there and payment sites.

But it really is due to the economy and recent events. We're poorer these days

I'm really hating the new policies too, as I hadn't been on Ebay in like a long time. I'm also curious which 'alternatives' you're talking about, as I'd go with anyone who's better than Ebay's current crappy ways. Yahoo auctions are gone. Who else is there?

P.S.: Ccav, THANK YOU for your first post! You hit the nail clean on the head!

P.P.S.: Speaking of which (semi-offtopic) I had started an Ebay and Paypal accounts for the stuff I'd posted in trades, and they're actually holding the payments for 3 weeks in some kind of 'escrow' or something. I could care less because I don't need the cash for anything just this minute or whatever, but I do like to keep my finances 'liquid' and that they're holding my money in limbo is more than a little annoying. I guess with everything going on in the economy, everybody's getting stingy, even with money that isn't theirs (technically speaking) .

Yes, I'm ignoring the original poster. ;)

It's not hard, but takes away the option of getting a money order which I don't have to pay to drop in my bank.I just got charged $4.75 to sell & collect on a $41 item.As opposed to the $3.10 I would have been charged to sell if I could have received a money order.

In the long haul,it will make a bit of difference when selling multiple items on a regular basis.
