Will Christopher Nolan Do a Third Batman?

While the internet is going crazy with casting rumors that aren't true for Christopher Nolan's possible third Batman movie, the director himself is on vacation as The Dark Knight approaches $500 million domestically.

The Hollywood Reporter has published an interesting article about the film's marketing and the deaths of both Heath Ledger and Conway Wickliffe before the film's release. The piece ends with a bit on the third installment.

And Warners and Legendary are both interested in doing a third in the series, but all involved say it will be up to Nolan to come to them with a story and a plan.

"There are a lot of us who emotionally would love to do it," Roven says. "But it's really Chris' call. Chris is the kind of filmmaker who just doesn't think about the next movie before he has completely finished the movie he is working on."

For now, Nolan is taking a well-earned vacation.

Says Roven, "When he comes back, we will see how he feels."

We will be waiting patiently...

Goyer said that he and Nolan envisioned a trilogy so I hope Nolan honors that vision but with all that was involved with TDK I could see him saying I just don't want to do it again. But I and prolly everyone else on this board would love to see a third, one more showing Batman clear his name and taking down the mob once and for all.

Its my understanding that Nolan, Ledger & Bale all became very close during the filming of TDK. I'm sure Heath's untimely death hit Nolan & Bale especialy hard.

I also can understand why Nolan would be considering calling it quits. Not just because of Ledger's passing, but also the "felt need" to wrap his take on the franchise with a stellar performance from nearly every one envloved.

There's no doubt in my mind that the 3rd Batman film will be a "Bat-tech" movie. That is if WB & Ledgendary know what the hell is good for them. Only a fool would try to up stage both lead performances of Bale & ledger, with other actors (who ever their chacter would be). The only way I see Batman making a successful move away from Ledger is puting a MEGA SPOT LIGHT on the "Bat-tech" of the Batman universe.

Once all that been hammered out in story boards & plot treatments, THEN sit down & hammer out villian(ess).

That's some sketchy reasoning there. You don't avoid making sequels just because you had a good movie.

Given that the focus on "Bat Tech" has been one of the areas most heavily criticized by fans and critics alike, I don't really see them going that way. I also don't see two hours of "Bat Tech" being particularly entertaining. As soon as they start trying to let FX and gadgetry stand in for performances, you have a bad movie on your hands. Star Wars Prequels, anyone?

Well I don't realy follow SW that close, but I did see all 3 prequels & I was under the impression that all were successful, so I don't see your point.

As for you not believeing a director would never turn away from a mega successful movie because they feel its there "signature film".............well just go knock on Speigburgs door & offer him tens of millions, & see how far it get you.

Hollywood has been after that man FOR DECADES to do a sequel to E.T. so never say never my friend.

The SW prequels were successful but most fans dislike them. So I doubt WB will want Batman go the way of Lucas and have movies that are written and directed movies for one person and not doing service for the fans. And besides comparing Nolan to Spielberg is a little far. Nolan is great but Spielberg is mega director. I think we will see another Batman movie by Nolan but we won't hear anything for a while. He is prolly enjoying a much needed vacation. It has to suck to be director and major contributor to a huge franchise because it must consume your life for at a year and a half if not more. I think Nolan will be back but only after he has got to rest.

Will Nolan and Bale be back? Well I'd say chances are 50/50. If Nolan comes back Bales a given. But Bale has a lot of movies in the works. Will we see anyother Batman movie? HELL YEAH. WB is a company ruled by money and there is no way that they wouldn't make another movie. Burton was signed for three movies as were Keaton and after he bowed out Kilmer. So I say that we'll see another Batman movie and if we're lucky Nolan and Bale will be involved.

If I were a gambling man then yes, i'd put money on Nolan & Bale coming back for a 3rd film. My only point is that, its not an impossibilty for Nolan & Bale to bow out.

& yes, Speilburg is a much more powerful director than Nolan, but remember Speilburg had his flegling beguings too. At some point he was no bigger than Nolan is now. So just because Nolan is'nt as big a director as Speilburg, doesn't mean Nolan won't call it quits. The comarison IMO is not that far fetched.

Oh yeah, & if Bale does come back to do a 3rd, then for the love of God I hope he gains some weight!! the "crack head Batman" look is not flattering at all!

Gain weight??

Batman must be in top physical form

I think he could use some extra muscle weight if he is going to continue to be Batman. I do remember seeing the special features on Batman Begins when Bale gained too much weight in fat. Nolan was actually nervous about "Fat Man", but now that Bale is a bit older and has been working out his entire Hollywood career, I think we could expect him to put on some muscle mass for this role, or any other. Not a lot, just some.

Thank you Shawn! Bale was indeed under weight. dude was starting to look like his next film was about a man dieing from Aids. & as for all that stuff about Ninja.......THIS IS BATMAN!!!

Yes I know he is a trained ninja & a master of all forms of martial arts. But not all martial arts require tiny build. & besides, like Shawn said, this is make believe! not real life ninjas. I need my Batman to have some gurth to his body, so when he snatches up a thug or super villian, he LOOKS like he can do some damage.

Other wise he'll just look like a tempermental woman banging on the big strong chest of a real man.

He wasn't a big as he was in BB but I kind of let it slide a little b/c the suit was like a suit of armor it made up for it so it didn't stand out as much to me as Routh did in SR. But if I had my choice Bale would be a little bit more muscular at least a little more noticeable he was pretty light in TDK.

Hollywood is a funny place. I think we can all agree that what goes on in Hollywood wouldn't always make sense in the real world, so it's hard to assume what will and won't happen. Yes, I'm sure the muckity-mucks at Warners want another Batman. The studio is a business and businesses exist to provide for their share holders, so of course they're in it for the money. Anyone running a business would be a fool not to try and follow up the $500 million plus success that is TDK.

Now, Nolan is an auteur. He is an artistic director, who is not necessarily inclined to selling out for a fat sum. So, he might say no, simply because he doesn't have another idea he thinks it good enough to make into a worthy sequel. If that's the case, then I stand behind him. I don't want a sub-par Batman movie, especially after this one. And I don't think Warners is going to just churn out a movie to churn out a movie, seeing as how a flop will kill this franchise immediately. It's gonna be a toss up whether or not we get another Batman from Nolan, but I'm more than happy to wait. And I think Bale looked fine as Batman. I don't want a juiced up version of the character, like we've seen in oh so many comic books. This is what Batman would be in the real world, so he must BE a real man. Albeit a real man who dressed in armor, with a cape and cowl, has a tank for a car, faces down lunatics in clown face, jumps off building in Hong Kong with crooked industrialists, and can't find true love. But he must be a real man, so being overly muscle bound isn't going to work within the bounds of the reality created.

I was really with you on this and I was about to agree that he don't need to be big muscled and a real guy until you read off Bats' resume. Real guy...who fights crime and jumps out of windows, and wears a cape....now I can just see it either way.

why do you guys always do this??? when some one says something that you might not agree with, u'll take that statment & push it to the mother lovein max!! If you will all be so kind enough to scroll back to my original post about Bale's weight, you'll see that my chief complaint is that dude is starting to look like "shaky the crack head".

I never infered that Bats should be built like any kind of body builder!! So just take thoes words out of my mouth. & yes some times the comic do get carried away with Bats mussels, but we ARE talking about A FULLY GROWN MAN. & I say it like that bc I know how evey one wants to make or should I say "re-make" all the heros in to younger versions of their former selves *clears throat* (TFA).

but I'm sorry Bale's chest (much like Routh's), just wasn't up to par. The only reason Routh's ehhh, (how shall we say it), "lack of pectoral endowment" was so much more noticable because he doesn't ware armor like Bruce, & unlike the Bat logo, the Crest of The House Of El SIMPLY MUST BE WORN by a very strong chest! anything less is unaccecptable!

Hell far as I'm conserned it doesn't even realy have to be mussle. If dude were to just bulk up a bit, at least to the point where he doesn't look like he's squandered the Wayne family fortune away & runs Alfred's pockets at night when the old fart is sleep, looking for money to get crack.

okay.....what ninja is big? japanese arent all that big.(they've been doing it for years) but anyway....if bale was too small in the DK, but you still liked it though, running down his resume, is irrelevant.

its a work of fiction....bats could be big as arnold, and still wouldnt be able to do a fraction of what he does in real life. plus he has on a freakin body armor suit......c'mon
