Are all of the original 25ths getting white letter cards?

I don't think they are.

The ones that are being re-released on the newer cards are the figures that collectors had a hard time finding the first time around...like Flint, V2 SS, V2 SE, Firefly, etc.

Ah, that stinks. I much prefer the new style over that flakey foil stuff.

not true at all. the only one of those that was hard to find was Flint. V2 SS and SE's were the first 25th peg warmers, and it wasn't until Hasbro stopped releasing them (they were included in the first three waves) and they disappeared, that all the people who complained and passed on them then wanted them -- hardly the definition of hard to find.

Firefly wasn't harder to find than any other figure. and was abundantly available considering wave 3 saw numerous revisions which he was part of.

Flint still remains the only figure that can argued to have been hard to find (more so than any other), so that wouldn't account for all the other figures that are being released on the new cards if the criteria was "hard to find."

I'm pretty sure that Firefly was hard to find for most people. Look how much he is going for singly online to get an idea. Most of the others were relatively easy to find though. Flint and LJ were popular enough they sold out quickly, so they were also somewhat harder to find.

None have really been hard to find for me in my area, but I agree with darthhenning that Firefly was difficult for some people. He was highly anticipated, and there were lots of distribution and availability problems around the time he was released.

I don't think Storm Shadow version two was tough, though, as he was repacked multiple times in later lines. I think his popularity, along with Snake Eyes, is the reason he's being re-released.

I know I'll pick one up on the new card because it looks more like the carded version I bought as a kid.

Regardless, I thought Hasbro had stated that was the reason for releasing 2008 - Wave 5...that it was all figures from past waves who were hard to find, and ones who fans wanted to see re-released so they'd have a second chance to get them...

How the hell do you argue with someone over whether or not something was "hard" to find or not?

I get the debate over whether or not the "criteria" for the re-release of these figures is due wholly to their initially being HTF, but to say (rather boldly) that any particular figure was NOT hard to find, based on your own experience in easily finding them, is a bit silly isn't it?

I only spotted maybe 2 single carded Flints EVER and one of them I bought. I only ever spotted ONE Firefly and ONE v2 Storm Shadow, and I'm glad I bought them on first finding, or I would have never had another chance. I've NEVER spotted a Red Ninja single pack and only have him due to the battle pack.

I think the majority of them are HTF simply because I never see all that many of them, not for very long periods, and the usual peg warmers can vary area to area store to store as well, but I can only attest to the fact of what I have seen here in central Ohio, and that is that Flint, V2 SS, V2 SE and Firefly were NOT of the "usual peg warmers" and were definitely HTF in this area.

How do you argue that fact?

then how can you argue a figure was hard to find -- you didn't find them because somebody else did -- so they were found! your own argument disputes your own. honestly, how can you commit such a hypocrisy and not only be so adamant about it but not even recognize it? that is beyond dumbfounding, and with all due respect, your greatest exhibit of a lack of logic yet.

if a figure has been deemed hard to find, there has to be some criteria that is based on as a whole and is not about individual experience. by your logic, no figure ever has been hard to find because they have all been found and bought. good grief, man. your post was the most ridiculous attempt at an argument I have ever read. it lacks any semblance of rationale.

I haven't seen a Buzzer in a while, therefore he is now hard to find. your argument makes such a ridiculous assertion a reality.

So "hard to find" has to be based on some other "criteria" beyond just the personal experience of the collector? Hasbro puts out a notice (some collectors get...others don't) that THIS particular item or figure is going to be "hard to find" and then it's ok to call it as such? Wouldn't that just be the ol' "shortpacked" dilema?

Seems your trying too hard to complicate the discussion with your usual brand of bullsh@# philoshopy of terms here? It's not that big a deal really and not so complicated as you wish to make it. YES...I'm breaking it down to individual PERSONAL levels with regards to the idea of an item being declared "HTF". Yes...that means if they all get bought up upon day of stocking and some collectors never even get to find one on the pegs for themselves, just because the more crafty and efficient collectors got to them FIRST doesn't negate the fact it was "HTF" for those who missed the chance.

Would using another term like hard to get as in, couldn't find it at retail and online shops were all sold out so I couldn't GET it, be better for ya?

All we read post after post is how difficult it's been for a LOT of collectors to GET some of these items, which is either due to their popularity or poor distribution (another argument entirely) and yet NOW, you're here to tell us that they're not REALLLLLLY hard to find, in the technical sense (the Hasbro confirmed, proper criteria sense) but just hard to find on a personal, individual level....like nobody but yourself knew that?

WOW!! Glad you're around to clear up all those goofy misperceptions of us less in-the-know folks!

And YES...if you haven't seen Buzzer in a while and some other collector was to go on a hike to try and find him right now, guess what...? He'll probably think he's HARD TO FIND! If enough people complain they didn't get one and they too felt he was HTF...they might do a re-release to give'em a 2nd crack it (like they're doing with Flint, V2 SS, V2 SE and Firefly) but let it be clear that it's NOT because Buzzer was technically declared by the G.I.Joe collectors guild as being hard to find, it's just that he sold so well and plentiful, not everybody was able to acquire one.

Yeah, I see the need to clear such things like that up.

I'll admit my misinformation. I just went to BBTS and read their description of Wave 5 - Revision 5, and it says:

"Many of these figures have been sold out at retail for quite some time and are now quite difficult to find..."

Of course, one could argue "figures that collectors had a hard time finding" is the same as "now quite difficult to find." Why would Hasbro bother re-releasing these if collectors weren't still looking for them?

Either way, for what it's worth, the wave includes Beachhead, Firefly, Snow Serpent, SS V2, Stalker, Snow Job, SE V2, and Flint.

Don't know if Hasbro stated that "offically" or not Joe (and you have to be very careful how you word things around here) but i followed ya on your line of thinking and here is the article about the figures they're re-releasing..

http://toynewsi.com/index.php?itemid=13202

It's worded as "fans not being able to find" which MIGHT be misunderstood as declaring them OFFICIALLY "hard to find" but it's probably just PERSONALLY "hard to find"? Nevertheless, they're releasing them again in hopes they'll be easier to find for those who missed them the first time around. ;)

"Hard to find" is, by the very context of the phrase, subjective to the individual in question. It can be due to a number of various different factors -- character popularity, frequency per wave, per revision, # of revisions per wave, general volume per revision produced, retail distribution, geographic distribution, the amount of collector activity in your area, the amount of scalper activity in your area -- most of which are difficult to determine objectively, and generally aren't worth the effort in doing so (unless you're a marketing research firm.. that ONLY specializes in one sub-line.. of one toy brand.. of one manufacturer).

The end supply and demand may be dominated by any of those particular factors, yet also consider that the volume of trading of these products is still so thin (relative to the products that do change hands in any economy) that whatever "market" prices any of us have seen may still be rather deviated from whatever the natural market price would be.

The upshot is that we can really only speak to broad consensus based on the experiences of others that corroborate our own, and that we shouldn't take it as an offense if someone else on the Internet has witnessed something different.

Really I didn't have trouble finding any of these guys when they first came out... But I was too slow to get a couple of my favorites before they were all snatched up by other collectors and the friendly neihbor scalper! Now with either Ebay or current re-issue prices they're still gonna cost me more. Crap.

I've been funnin' all along here.

But let's get back to serious for a second, just for the sake of it.

"Hard to find".........imo, is only as hard as one wants to make it.

Yea, I put the onus back on the collector, instead of on the "system".

I don't see collecting these days as a chore or challenge.....as much as it is an art form.

Sure there's that measure of luck involved, but with luck defined as a meeting of preparation with opportunity.

Looking at GIJOE ( or any other toys this summer), its not been hard to find figures from my perspective, though I've not tried excessively hard.

I do mostly mail-order these days, and via that route a LOT of stuff has been available.

Foot-hunts....I do not do, because of my rural location.........but even the occasional foray yields treasures for me.

Granted, I've not wanted a lot of stuff, so my hunting list is small most of the time.

What I make plain to others is that my search area is NOT local, or even regional.

I have stuff inbound right now from both eastern Canada ( I live in the west) and from the USA--making my "hunting grounds" continental. With that scope in mind, how can I miss in my hunts, right??

I do not feel at the mercy of the distribution or retail system because I'm not stymied by a lack of local supply. Clearly some folks have a surplus in their areas, which says there's more than enough to go around.

In reading the comments from a lot of frustrated posters in forums like this over the years, many come across as reluctant ( or some other affliction) to ask for help. Or maybe they give up too easily--I cannot say which for sure.

The other thing that is working in my favour IS the system, at least in this case; figures that were "hard to find" before ( and yes, some did become scarce for a while) are being re-released. I have some of the "hard to find" figures now, have better "placeholders" for some too ( Tiger Force Flint as opposed to regular Flint, for example) so the re-releases are less urgent for me.

I suspect that is the same situation for many others, thus making getting these figures even easier over the next while.

I gave up a lot of the angst in collecting years ago, and I feel much more relaxed and happy for doing so.

Why others have not embraced this, I do not know.
