WWE Looking To Become More Family Friendly By Going PG!

Variety are reporting that WWE are moving to become more family friendly as they plan to produce their three weekly TV shows in a way that lands WWE a PG rating. Monday Night Raw on USA Network and ECW on Sci Fi are currently rated TV-14, while CW’s Friday Night SmackDown, who are preparing for the move to MyNetworkTV this fall is already a TV-PG.

Varierty reports, “WWE stressed that its shows wouldn't become tamer, as a result of the change. They'd just focus more on its over-the-top characters and storylines, rather than attention-grabbing stunts that may have been considered too outrageous in the past.”

A WWE representative said, "It's the continuing evolution of the company to create content for our growing audience of younger viewers." WWE recently released a kids magazine and website to help target the same demo with original content. Their film division WWE Studios will also help steer away from Rated R content. Sigh...this means no more bra and pantie matches or nearly nude Divas. :(

Probably no more sexual related jokes either. Jeez...The Rock would've never been able to survive in a PG environment.

Seriously, this is stupid.

They said SmackDown is PG already. So, SmackDown is marketed "for the kiddies", right? Because we all know that the kids love watching adulterous relationships (Edge/Vickie/Alicia), MVP talking about Jeff Hardy's drug problems (see this week's VIP Lounge), and seeing a "dead man" coming back from the dead countless times. All for the kiddies.

Making a big deal about the ratings of the shows being changed is only going to anger people silly enough to actually pay attention to those things to begin with. Parents won't allow kids to watch wrestling because they won't allow them. Or, more importantly, parents do allow kids to watch because it's better than the other reality trash on Network TV.

This might be the biggest nonstory about wrestling on this message board since the continuing Hogan family saga and anything involving Dwayne Johnson.
