Some of this stuff is finally starting to show up around here. In the last week I've found the Luthor/Trooper 3 pack twice, GA/GL/BC twice, Hawkman/Thanagarians pack, Wildcat, Manhunter and Qwardian Weaponer.

 

My local TRU has the Defense of OA and Battle for Metropolis packs...which I hope I get for Christmas.

 

I missed out on ordering the Gotham Patrol pack when it was on TRU.com earlier in the week due to not having the funds available...and it wasn't on there long.

 

TRU.com is weird anyway. I ordered some troop builder GI Joe on there and the next day the prices on those jumped $5 per pack. I'm guessing it's updated automatically, but if that isn't the weirdest thing. Usually most webpages would lock in the price for you and send you a 'now out of stock' notice or something. TRU just seems to block you out altogether.

Damn shame it was all the same first figures. All of it.

Even though the figures were a pretty disappointing entry into the DCIH line, I'm sure I'll pick up a few more to test the waters further.

When are they going to realize that you might be able to put a "Only at TRU" sticker on these, but people are not going to pay these overinflated prices? Well, I guess these will be the clearance items of mid-09.

Not only that, but TRU (and Target with their exclusives) fail to realize that these exclusives are repacked stuff of already-released product. As someone told me before, it's pointless to pay out the nose for the Battle of Metropolis set since most of them figures will be put sooner or later. And considering the DCIH line has a major problem with pricing--exactly why do eight figures cost about $15 more than an exclusive six-figure set, which is $5 more than two three-packs, etc.--charging a premium because you can't get them anywhere else is sheer stupidity. The set is overpriced to begin with, and TRU seems to be in love with holding onto stock that will not move. Not to mention that most of the people who would collect them are online and know that a lot of these figures will come out in cheaper three-packs and we can save some cash in the long run if we don't buy the line, which is one hell of a flaw that Mattel doesn't seem interested in resolving.

 

I'm guessing the Battle sets will move when they drop in price, but the Defense of Oa is going to hang around for a while. There's twenty at my local TRU and they'll all rot when John Stewart and the Qwardian come out in single packs.

The Qwardian is already out as a single, though. John is really the only thing in that set 'new'. The Hal is just a remold, Guy appears to be the same figure as the single, and the Manhunters are a slight redeco to add some 'battle damage'.

 

At least in the Metropolis set you're getting Captain Atom, a (big!) Battle Suit Lex, and a handful of troop builders that are also unique to the set.

 

Granted most of the 'new' stuff in those sets will probably see single card status at some point, IF the line survives.

This line should've been a hit, but unfortunately it's been an endless parade of bad decisions.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can make ugly figures and someone will still collect them. You can make expensive figures and someone will still pay that price. You can't however get away with ugly AND expensive.

I think (now) it was a line thought up in haste. Now that they have had time to realize and appreciate their clientelle, Mattel will fix up the main complaints, especially if they want to compete with the Hasbro Marvel line. The only thing is, they probably will not change the figs they have already released, so where I could not convince myself to buy these things (MONKEY HANDS!!!), the 'new' sculpting will probably make me regret that decision. However, as there seems to be no end of availability to what HAS been put out, maybe I'll be able to 'retro-collect'.

 

Of course, that is all contingent on the comment they made in one of the Q&As that they heard the complaints and are fixing the problems.

hope they keep up the 3-packs as those r the only new items i find. the singles around me r stuck on wave 1 and i had a hard time finding atom and black hand with all the adam strange, guy gardner, captain marvel, and eventually professor zooms on the shelf.

Same here. I'd rather actually buy a GI Joe Ultimate Battle Pack for $55 than the Battle of Metropolis set. I'm willing to wait. It looks cool but.....I just can't, you know? I'm just not at that point yet.

I hate to hear you want to delet your account. I am not going to get all up in ya bizz. I think there is some great company here. Granted not evey one sees eye to eye all the time but there are still some great folks around here. Except pooda lol I'm KIDDING!!. But most of the people here are really great and have welcomed everyone with open arms.

 

And they try to help one another out as much as possable. I know because of some of the guys here I'v found things I honestly never thought i'd see. and made some great friends and had some great convo's. I'v been in a few cussin matches too but over all once you get to know the folks around here its a nice experance.
