Paravipers are Eels?

Were these guys suppose to be a class of Eels, did anyone see a filecard or anything mentioning that?

The reason I ask is I got to looking at the diagram saw they have fins strapped on like navy SEALS (which I then saw on the figure). They also have forearm blades similar to the Morays.

Can someone at Con ask Hasbro to strip the figure down and see what other accessories they may come with?

They aren't Cobra Eel's like in the traditional sence. They jump out of planes and parachute often into the water so it does have fins and such but it's not meant to be just a figure in scuba gear. Rumor has it traditional Eel figures are in the works. As for striping the figure down, it's a production model and I don't think they can totally strip it down. They took the helmet off and such the other day but I think that was as much as they were able to do.

I would like it if they were Eels. Since we know that Snow Serpents are Eels, they seemed to be much more than just plain divers - they're more like Cobra's version of the Navy SEALs. So it'd make sense that we'd get some that specialize in HALO jumps.

Out of all the figures shown from the convention, I'd have to say this thing is the least appealing to me. It just looks to busy or something, just a major cluster-f@#k of accessories. He hits the water in that getup and he's going straight to the bottom to sit for a spell (or decade or two) @loll@

AH well, I guess it's just something new I haven't seen before, but I'm just not liking it much based on how it looks compared to the others.

That makes a lot of since. Snow Serpents are Eels, That go to jump school I would think they would send them to jump school first before, the artic school or Parvipers could be Snowserpent wash outs.

All that gear actually looks pretty similar to what an actual HALO jumper would wear.

Still an action figure, but based on real life.

Yeah, but even so...

this figure is kinda ugly lookin'.

I don't care for the Purple and Orange colors and it's too overloaded with sheaths, holsters, hoses and other various items protruding from it.

Might have a change of opinion once in hand, but when compared to the other fine figures shown, I still have a "blah" kinda 1st impression of this one.

Yea, if the question was what would a fully-loaded trooper look like, THAT would be the answer.

I mean, if the figure came with LESS stuff, he'd be under-dressed for a paratrooper, and thus less realistic and less interesting. As it is, he actually IS a bit under-dressed, as his weapon would be stowed in a weapons bag under his arm alongside his torso to be totally realistic.

I think the "busy-ness" argument is just another "can't win" thing for Hasbro, as some fans have asked for more military-looking stuff for a long time, and when they get it...........its TOO military-looking.....too realistic.

Yeeesh!

I'd say Hasbro's probably given up trying to "win" with the multitude of fans though.....a looooong time ago! ^_^

You have to take the criticisms on a fan to fan basis and if the same fan that once asked for "more military-lookin" stuff, comes back and complains about it, when it's offered...

then ya got a problem with the "no win" situation out of THAT individual, but with so many fans and so MANY different wants and wishes per each of them, i bet Hasbro doesn't take too much of it to heart. They know what they're up against. ;)

This tiny of a scale, for "action" figures doesn't leave a whole lot of room for being particularly accurate or more "realistic" in their concepts or designs, and hasbro use to know that (originally) but every once in awhile they do throw one out there (like this one) and it will please some and not others for it's attempt at being more "realistic". For me, it's too overloaded, busy and likely pretty static in movement. Not exactly my idea of a fully poseable action figure, but more like a statue.

They "won" me over with the majority of the others, but this one fell short.

Yea, thing is for me, I adore the loaded figures...........always have. Back when 12" was king, the more gear the better was my catch-phrase.

The original Big Ben was an example of a figure that was almost there for me. I wish he had MORE stuff, in spite of all the gear he came with. Recoil was another one, but who did not have places for all his stuff. If that V3 Snake-eyes for way back had the points to place all the gear he had on his person, he'd have been my idea of the PERFECT figure.

( The new 25th version takes that honour, but is still missing the blow gun--phooey!)

I'll probably get one of these paratroopers.

Oh, I'll still get one. I have to, if I'm going to be able to honestly evaluate the figure for myself...in hand. My opinion of it now, is merely based on what I'm seeing of it from the con images, and those are never quite what they end up looking like in person.

The one good thing though, is that most of the stuff looks to be removable, so for somebody (like myself) who finds all that gear piled on a bit too much, i can leave it off....and hell who KNOWS, i might really like it that way? :)

just throwing out a wild guess here, but anyone think the colors might be a nod to the Night Vulture figures?

http://www.yojoe.com/action/91/nightvulture.shtml

Could be, but if they were going to give a nod to it, the COLOR is the last thing they should have gone with. @haha@ The color scheme is the only thing that crapped out the ol' NV, which otherwise was a damn cool figure.

I'm sure that gear is going to be what they use for Ripcord when the finally make him. It's a pretty accurate representation of HALO gear. I really like the Ripcord that won the custom competition on Hasbro.com. really well done.

I'm glad we're getting Short Fuse but I hate that he's coming with a $50 set. I hope he's going to be single carded too. We need Zap now. I wish Breaker had come on a single card. Oh well, guess I should be glad to get them at all.

I really like the Para Trooper. I'm like ARROW, I love more stuff on my figures. If the stuff is removable and functional that is even better.

As far as I'm concerned about his color, he is a Cobra so what if he is colored ugly. I doubt a murdering terrorist cares if we think he is pretty.

I plan on getting at least four of them.

But being Purple and Orange (with a dash of bright Yellow) he IS..."pretty" @loll@

This reminds me of what Eddie Izzard said about cross dressers in the military.

whether this is a reply to the paravipers or not, its the first joe forum I saw and Id just like to make some comments and hope someone is listening and agrees. This 25th line is awesome ok, I love it, but come on.. a paraviper?? a cobra bazooka soldier?? and whats with all the ridiculous repaints?? Sand cobras, etc... I wish they would just stay on track with this line. Keep it simple, release all figures that were originally on cards, on cards. I think the comic 2 packs are great for figs like ace and wild weasel and the crimson twins who werent single carded. And most of the figures they released have stayed true to the orginals, if not better and I love that. But they could have done a Ripcord instead of the paraviper. They could have done Zap instead of the cobra bazooka soldier. Cutter... at least do a new head sculpt, I look at that and see Gung Ho. I cant buy that. Dusty is awesome, Quick Kick is awesome, but why not on single cards? Pry to sell their DVDs because they know collectors will buy them just for the figs. And what about Breaker, Grunt, Steeler, and now Short Fuse??? Horrible. Just plain laziness or they just dont care. These were the originals. Breakers head too big and those stupid Duke arms. At least they could have done was clip the gun holster off the waist belt, which is what I did. 10 times better. Now if I can just figure out how to get different arms on him, any help would be appreciated. And I switched the pistols with the one duke came with, this one actually fits in his hands. Now with Grunt, I thought the Duke with Red Star figure kicked ass. I put Grunts head and web gear on that body... dam!! and with that M-16 that Grunt orginally came with, LOOKS AWESOME guys, I recommend it. Steeler, except for the web gear, he looks nothing like the original. For customizers I would recommend Ace or Wild Bills upper body, someone like Hawks arms, with 5-pack Snake eyes black hands, Ace or Wild Bills upper legs, and someone like Hawks lower legs. Use the 25th Steelers head and web gear, and find a helmet and binnoculars, and of course you have to know how to paint. Short Fuse... I couldnt believe it. Thats depressing. Unfortunately his web gear doesnt exist but I am working on using dukes head and hands from Duke with Red Star, Hawks body, 5-pack Snake Eyes web gear, paint the boots and leg gear brown, and find a mortor and back pack. Copperhead, I love him, but I need to find some green paint to match so I can switch that stupid roadblock left hand with shipwrecks. So with my rant all done, come on Hasbro, dont let us down. You've done so many awesome figures, dont get lazy. And dont forget about Sgt Slaught, Dr. Mindbender, Ripcord, Recondo, Alpine, Blowtorch, Airtight, Monkeywrench, Zandar, Zarana, Thrasher, Wetsuit, Lowlight, Lifeline, Leatherneck, Footloose, and maybe even a Range Viper. Well thanks to all for reading this book. Maybe someone with some stroke will be reading this too, they supposedly do, and keep us nerds happy. Thanks all.

The bottom line is that Hasbro has done alot of new sculpts in this line and it has all been in less than one years time. All of these repaints are like extra bonuses. Things to please army builders or even color alternatives for some who did not like the way someone turned out before.

Hasbro makes some extra money that can be used towards more new things the next year. For every person that does not like repaints of some sort there is someone who does.

It also helps Hasbro please more customers in some way by getting, hopefully, a version of someone that will make someone happy. For example, Major Bludd. The single pack has some that like it and some that don't. Now the 7-pack has one that might please fans that did not like the single pack.

Hasbro has never had a production year with more new scuplts than they have within this year and it's not over yet. I think alot of people are not seeing just how much new sculpts have been made because all they do see is the repaints.

It's only been 8 months. How is Hasbro supposed to make every single figure that every individual wants in that period of time.

They mentioned during the Slide Show that he was colored to blend with the Mamba Helicopter.

It is a very impressive figure in person. I personally think it is overly Busy...a tad bit more so than the Snow Serpent, but I am ok with it...

The helmet and Hoses are very nice. It was not until the figure was in the case that I realized he had Fins strapped to the back of his legs.

If they are going to create new viper/cobra troopers, I think this one is a decent start. I actually like the helmet net of the Bazooka Viper too(even though he comes with an RPG...not a bazooka)

he just needs some new colors to be good. He is busy, but that would be okay if his color scheme would help him out.

He's just ugly @lol@

I think I will wait for the inevitable repaint

I guess the reason why I criticize is that I am afraid of the line coming to an abrupt end with the movie coming out. They already said this line will be put on hold for the movie. I have seen lines of other action figures go uncompleted. And sometimes the things I read seem to imply the same for this one, I dont know maybe its just all rumored. I just hope not. And by the way, they did an AWESOME JOB on the Tiger Force Flint, the head was shrunk down and the skin was not painted but yet molded that color and the arms and hands look and work great. There was a good example of Hasbro listening to its fans and it is appreciated.

Well im not sure what your defenition of complete for this line is? If you mean they remake every single figure from the 80's and early 90's then I doubt that will happen. If you mean the original 13 and then some then Hasbro has said that will happen before the movie stuff comes out which is probably why you see them sticking all these figures in multi-packs and such. Also don't forget we have a badass new cartoon coming and I wouldn't mind seeing a full fledged toyline start up for it.
