DCUC Firestorm

Until everybody here convinces the rest of the world that Orion is, like, the COOLEST action figure EVER and gets people to go in and buy the 20 that are warming the pegs in every Target I go into, I don't think we are going to see fresh DCUC for awhile. And didn't a bunch of Mattel products get pulled for random testing, like Batman and DCUC and Speed Racer? That makes new product ever scarcer.

Yup! Totally, Bro.

The problem is Mattel started out with the WEAKEST wave of all the ones they've shown us. Okay. You've got Batman. Everyone wants him. Baman fans, comic fans, little kids, their moms who don't know comics, etc. Penguin...Yeah. Everyone's heard of him but a lot of people just aren't going to pony up for a fat guy figure. Red Tornado...Well, only comic gees know him but he does look cool so maybe some little kid might give him a chance. Orion and Demon...they're strictly for the fanboys.

Now I know a bunch of whiney fanboys are going to chime in with, "Well, this line is geared for collectors. Mattel isn't counting on little kids and their moms buying these so it don't matter if they recognize them or not..."

EvilStar says "BULL!"

Wave One is warming every peg EvilStar sees so if this line is geared to collectors then there ain't enough Orion and Demon collectors out there!

Wave Two and Three were SOOOOO much better, Dude! You got Green Lantern, Nightwing, Robin, Aquaman, Black Manta...lots of figs that EVERYONE...kids AND collectors would scoop up! Hey! EvilStar loves the obscure character too, but he hopes this line doesn't get choked to death by Mattel pushing a bunch of characters no one wants or heard of!

So in wave 1 we get the mythical Red Tornado variant (and wasn't there supposed to be some Penguin variant too?)

In wave 2 we have the mythical black Firestorm.

It will be interesting to see if wave 3's Corps Sinestro will actually be real.

I'm curious, and I don't feel like starting a new thread... Why do you want the Jason version of Firestorm?

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm asking honestly. I'm saying 'you' because I want personal thoughts on this. Do you like the character? Is it just that it's a different character, and you get one of every character? Is it that you're a completist for the line?

Me, I'm not interested. I have nothing against Jason, but I just don't care about him. I've never read any comic with him in it that impressed me (if someone feels differently and wants to give me a reading list, I would take a look). If I had more money and less figures that I wanted, I might pick him up just for kicks, but alas, there is too little money in my wallet and there are too many figures I want out there for me to spend $10 on a figure of a guy I don't care about.

Plus, Ronnie's death has always seemed incredibly lame to me. It practically screamed that they were knocking him off so they could try to give Firestorm the 'younger, hipper legacy' boost... and considering Ronnie's former status as the young, hip hero, it just made it even more sour, IMO.

Again, I'm not trying to knock Jason, so please don't read it as such. I'm just curious what the specific, individual draw is to those who want him.

i wont lie.....i only want him because he's black( and his boots are slick). as an african american collector i buy the black characters on that alone, but.....Ronnie was a WAY better firestorm than Jason! period! im also a completist, so ill buy them all anyway.(probally trade him like i did that punk, modern aquaman)

Him being a completely different character makes me want the figure more than if it were a costume change of the same person, like the upcoming Sinestro and Deathstroke figures. I might get those also, but I definitely pick up any "alternate" figure that represents a brand new character. I'll definitely be hunting down Artemis in Wave 4 also.

I like the character of Jason. I think he is an interesting character in and of himself. I like his relationship (or lack thereof) with his dad, I like his financial struggles, I like his trying to figure out his new role as a hero. All of these things make for an interesting character, IMO.

I like Ronnie, too.

As for the figure, I like that he's a different character, I like that he's a "minority" character, I like his costume. And, yes, I am a completist, too.

So, all of the above!

Hmmm... canceled, eh? Judging by Mattel's performance thus far, I guess I need not worry about trying to obtain the maskless Deathstroke, Artemis Wonder Woman, or any other variant, for that matter. It's bittersweet, but I suppose that makes life easier. Maybe somewhere down the road, they will release a 'variant's only' wave. Or at very least sell them through a specialist like FAO Schwartz. At an increased MSRP, of course...
