Python Patrol Officer!

Recommended Posts

So I picked up the Python Patrol Officer (along with three others. EvilStar is going to post his review but later!) Anyway, the Python Patrol is a new thang to EvilStar. I don't remember them from back in the day cuz I was out of Joe by the time they hit. But I always kind've liked the colors. I thought they looked totally fly but I wasn't going to buy them then cuz I was done.

Anyway, now I'm totally into the 25th line and I get my chance to build my own Python Patrol. So I pick this fig up in the Target today and I'm wondering why the card says PYTHON PATROL OFFICER but the fig is a repainted Cobra TROOPER and the helmet don't have the little triangle on it that separates the troopers from the officers. Did Hasbro eff it up or is this the way its supposed to be? Is this guy supposed to be an officer or is he just a misslabeled Python Patrol trooper? Are there PP trroopers? Or are they all like the Crim. Guard where they're all officers?

I tried asking an employee but the doofus says I don't really know and I was like "DOY!!!!" Big time!" Anyway, I know some Joe historians here will do a solid and help EvilStar out.

BTW, EvilStar had also scooped up a Viper to troop build and/or add to ES' investment stash, but then Evil saw a little kid looking for a Viper and Evil did the right thing and gave him the one he was going to buy. The kid was so happy he cried and his mother thanked me for helping her family out. She wanted to give me money, but i was totally all like Yo! No thanks. It's okay. To me, it's enuff to do my part for future Joe fans. The kid's mom agreed and said I was a hero. And I was like. No. I'm not.

So, the lesson here is that it's good karma to give the collecting a break for the kid's sake.

Yo Joe!!!!

Good story?

Hasbro pretty much switched the Officer and the Trooper for Python Patrol. I think it was a mistake on their part back in the 80s. It's the main reason I watch the DIC Episodes "Operation Dragonfire" so much!

#US1# You da man ES! I do the same thing.

Anyway in the PP the Officer & Trooper is backwards from the normal versions. I don't know why Hasbro did that. They were also featured in DiC's G.I. Joe Operation Dragonfire series.

edit: Darn you AH! :)

Here you can see some clips of the show with Python Patrol in it...

Just to add to what Kevin said, Hasbro just decided to keep the names switched this time too.

You actually asked an employee? Ha!

That's how he rolls. Ask the least likely people who would know like old ladies, cats and ministers, people like that.

Yeah. I know. My bad. Stupid me. I thought that minimum wage jack @$$ would actually know something about his job. If he worked for me, I'd show him my crack.

Don't worry. I let him have it. He won't forget EvilStar anytime soon!

So did the Python Patrol fight ALL the Joes or just the Tiger Force? And did the TF ever make it to the cartoon?

Dang, Dude!

I was just looking up the Python Patrol over at YoJoe! WTF??? It looks like this PP Officer is the best of them all. The rest, the PPTrooper, the PP Crimson Guard, and even the PP vehicles all have a cr@ppy colors! What is up with that yellow? And the diamond pattern???? Why is the PPO the only one in cool black, red, and light gray?

Dang, Dude! This was like a lost Joe treasure that EvilStar had missed out on and he was just discovering, but no way, Bro! THEY IS UGLY! Hear, EvilStar, Hasbro, We don't need no more PP! Evil will just troop-build about five or so of these guys.

Color EvilStar disappointed!

It's not the business of a retail worker to know the details of the action figures sold where he or she works. Did you ask him how it is that Snake Eyes, Stalker, and Storm Shadow could have served in Vietnam and not be too old to still be active military while you were at it? RIDICULOUS

I used to hate it, but over the last few years since I've started collecting, they've really grown on me (same with Tiger Force). I like them all.

As for the officer/trooper switch, never really bothered me. For me the big thing with the officer was the silver emblem, not the thing on his helmet. His gear (an AK and a lot more webbing for extra clips and stuff) always seemed more "trooperish" anyway.

What do you think of the way the vehicles were colored?

Out of the six I never liked the Crimson Guard because he was not crimson anymore. I did like the Viper and Tele-Viper. I did not like the lack of a Cobra symbol on the Trooper. Copper Head was a little weird having his fleshy parts covered.

This never bothered me.

I always figure it like I do with the super-heroes like Iron Man, Captain America or the JSA.

Once a few years go by, and it seems like one war is too long ago to make sense that a character who's not getting any older could've been in that war, I just bump them up to the next war.

Back in the 80's, yeah. Snake Eyes, Stalker, Duke, and STormShadow were all in Vietnam, but by the 90's, I bumped them up to the Korean War, and then in the late 90's, I put them in the Falklands. By 2000, I figure its safe to put them in the First Gulf War and in a few years we could put them in Iraq or Afganistan.

Luckily, there's always another war right around the corner! :)

Not crazy about it. To be honest.

They aint as bad as that PPCrimson Guard, but they're all too purple. I guess I'm just into the black, light gray, and light green of the PPOfficer. Plus, they're lame choices for vehicles! Where's the PP HISS tank? Or the PP Stinger? The PP Fang? Why does the PP get those fakey looking vehicles like the ASP and the STUN (which looks like it should be on a golf coarse!)?

Guess it's over for EvilStar and the PP.

I'm looking at the TigerForce and it's a little better. At least they have cool vehicles. But Frostbite??? Come on! This guy is supposed to fight in the snow!!! Like that???

They should've had an Artic Force sub-group.

They could've included:

Snowjob

Ice Berg

Frost bite

Snake Eyes in his heavy coat.

Were there any other artic troopers?

Blizzard, Windchill, Snow Storm, Avalanche (BF2000), Cold Front and Sub-Zero. You could always throw in Stalker too.

Did the US fight another war in Korea in the late 1970s that I forgot about? I hope this was a typo!

Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but it seems in repainting the character, a few (for me 2 out of three) have had too much paint applied in the area of inside their right hand, making it difficult to hold anything. I had to cut it back with a razor and sandpaper to get it back to normal. Just me, or has anyone else seen this?

Also, why would Americans have been fighting in the Falklands?

Hasbro had plans back in the day according to yojoe.com to do a arctic sub team. Worse part is,those plans were for 1995.

I think they did a better job with the Python Patrol group run by Major Bludd.

It will be intersting to see if we get a full fledged Python Patrol Pack, now that we have the "full team" (well almost). Cobra, Cobra Officer, Crimson Guard, Viper, Tele-Viper and Copperhead.

Exclude the "officer" and it would make a perfect 5 pack.

One of mine (out of two) had the same issue. I haven't done anything to it yet. I just put the gun in the other hand and set him up next to the other one.
