A small File Card change

I noticed on some 25th ann. File Cards instead of saying (All NATO and Warsaw Pact small arms) it says (GI Joe weapons). It sounds weird now and a little plain.

No big deal, just thought I would point it out.

Trying to get out of the Cold War Era, I imagine... How about if they said 'expert in all American and European Union small arms...'? Of course that wouldn't include the former USSR and the rest of Asia, Africa and Austraila, but it sounds better, no?

I don't see the 25th line as being a squeal to Valor Vs Venom or Sigma Six but rather a retro line taking place in the 80s so changing this wording because it's the year 2008 seems silly. I'm sure they changed it for political reasons or something. NATO is in Afghanistan after all.

I noticed Duke's first filecard followed his original (with the dates included) but the Jetpack one went more similar to the Tiger Force version (ie. no dates).

I always thought it was funny they put dates in the first place. That would make Duke, what 70?

Early to mid 60's maybe?

This would be tough when Mainframe comes out (if they ever release him) because in the 80's he was one of the oldest Joes and that was 20+ years ago..

Actually he was one of the oldest MARINES when he re-inlisted, not necessarily one of the oldest Joes. But given that he's one of them that's tied to Vietnam, he would be anyway.

That kinda makes you wonder something too. Duke joined later, so would that mean that some of the original 13 are even older? Not to mention Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow, among others.

The 80s will live on forever!

Wait, why do I sound like my dad when he talks about the 50s?? @hmmm@

I hear that.

Mainframe's filecard bio.

Mainframe enlisted in the Army Airborne at the age of seventeen and made it over to South-East Asia for the last year of hostilities, just in time to get his Combat Infantryman's Badge. He left the Army to get his degree from MIT on the G. I. Bill and did a stint toiling in the antiseptic corridors of Silicon Valley making big bucks and fighting off boredom with a stick. Luckily, the Marines were looking for a few good men with just his qualifications. The proper papers were signed, and Mainframe was back in uniform.

"Too much of the modern battlefield is computer coordinated not to have a computer specialist right out there in the field with you. Problem is, most hackers don't exactly fit the combat profile. Mainframe is the exception. He was ten years older than the next oldest trainee at Parris Island and he still finished at the top ten of the class. He's got brains—but he's hard.

I remember the 1986 GiJoe yearbook mentioning something about him being one of the oldest Joes.

I have to find it at home and when I do I will scan the page and post the image.
