Man this is hard but easy at the same time theres no doubt Green Goblin is his number Villian for our web head. Although I can see why people may argue venom, because hes right up there in the best spidey villians ever catagory. And also has a lot of personal agendas with spidey. Deff one of the most popular and known villians. But Goby takes the cake way more history, and personal agenda. And has been around longer. Venom is close though!

I can understands both arguements for venom or green goblin. But c'mon now its still green goblin :)!

I love them both though!!

I voted before I read the first post, and was just going off the thread title, so I voted Venom.

I just think he's a way cooler character than Green Goblin.

Going by who his number one arch nemesis is though, it has to be Green Goblin.

Coming from a life long Spider-Man fan, I’m going to outright say it. For what Venom is, he’s ridiculously overrated. I don’t dislike him, not at all, though I do hate Carnage, besides the point, but Venom just doesn’t have the depth that many of his old school villains carry. Green Goblin is, without a doubt in my mind, Peter’s ultimate villain. He’s directly to blame for the greatest tragedy in comic book history - the death of Gwen Stacy. That was the neck crack heard around the world. It completely changed comic books forever. Heck, in the history of Spider-Man, Venom wouldn’t even be second. That would belong to Doc Ock. For as overused as Venom was during the late 80’s and early 90’s, literally appearing in at least one book every month, truthfully he’s never accomplished anything altogether life changing for Peter - especially considering some things Goblin and Doc Ock have pulled off. Goblin adds a whole new level of depth when you consider he’s Peter Parkers best friends father. Then, with Doc Ock, where you have Spider-Man, the geek gone good, Ock’s the geek gone bad. His stories rely more upon plot then they do mindless fighting. Venom is just muscle, and I will always prefer something with more of an intellect.

Green Goblin WAS his arch nemesis. Then he died. Then, sadly, a creatively bankrupt Marvel Comics ressurrected him in the late 90's.

Venom would be the NEW arch nemesis. But then Erik Larsen started drawing him as a big toothed, penis tongued drooling charicature. Then Marvel decided to make him an anti-hero and gave hom a bunch of dumb mini series.

Spider-Man's REAL arch nemesis is Joe Quesada. Who was jealous of Peter's smokin' hot wife and retconned her out of existence. Jerk.

I can't say I wasn't a fan of Venom in his day. However, I'm more of a fan of Venom from a long time ago, when he was a big guy with a good row of teeth. Somehow, as it as already stated by Rollo Tomassi, Venom became this bulging sack of crap with a two foot long jaw and an even longer tongue.

Doesn't mean I'm not still a Venom fan, but that doesn't mean that I could ever put him over the Green Goblin. Venom was a beast, and made for some fun times, but the Goblin was way more devastating. Heck, the Goblin gave Peter good fights and took the psychological route at the same time! I even liked his return, though I suppose it cheapens the original story.

Yeah, nobody beats out the Green Goblin. He's way too dangerous.
