Convention Set Ideas/Hopes/Predictions?

I've been thinking about what would make a great convention set this year... My first idea was to base it on international figures. After seeing Cobra Mortal a couple years ago, I thought maybe having a set featuring the rest of the Argen 6 figures would be a really good idea, seeing as how hard they are to obtain, and they'd be easy for the Club to do - just repaint the RAH comic-pack figures that were done with new heads.

Glenda - repaint of the comic-pack Scarlett

Redmack - repaint of the comic-pack Hawk

Shimik - repaint of the comic-pack Rock and Roll with comic-pack Grunt's head, painted black with a mustache.

Topson - repaint of the comic-pack Breaker

Manleh - repaint of the comic-pack Stalker painted as a white guy, he could even be the parachute figure of the year, since the original came with one too.

For bad guys I was thinking 6 Red Shadows from Action Force, but in RAH-style, which we've never seen. Maybe they could do up a mold for the head and possibly torso and work it out from there. They could also do RAH-style Baron and other Action Force baddies that weren't done in the RAH format back in the day.

The other idea I was thinking about was Night Force... There are SO MANY figures, especially from that latter years of the original RAH run, that could have been saved with a decent paint job. I'd love to see a Night Force '86 Sci Fi for example.

Any other ideas?

Well in one of the last couple issues of GI Joe WWIII , there was this elite force of Cobra Troops, I think that they were like new additions to the Plague......anyway it would be cool to have figures of them...... there was like specialists from several subtroops... There was a SAW Viper, a Range Viper, a Snow Serpent , and more.

I have given up on these threads because the club hardly, if ever, makes what we wish for. They only make what they can find the molds for....and even that is not a guarantee as we found out from the "Mauler Fiasco." I will say that the Tanks for the Memories set was quite possibly their best offering....but I am a shill, so I like 'em all. :)

You're so wrong...

The best was obviously the MARS set! Iron Anvil = The coolest thing EVER! Night-Iron Grenadiers = The second coolest thing!

I've only got like 50 of each!

Bucket of v1 Eels is what I'm hoping for.

I liked Tanks for the Memories for the Joes, really didn't like the Night Stalkers. (non fitting helmets, oversized weapons, constantly bent over). The Joes, though, were top notch. I have to agree with Kevin on the best set. Loved the MARS set. Hopefully they'll pump out a set that's equally as impressive this year. I don't know what molds they have left that we haven't seen in a while yet . . I'm really hoping though, that due to the resurgence of the brand, Hasbro will put the extra effort into finding molds that are "lost" or put in the money to make some new molds for the older characters. Who knows. I can't wait to get word on the set!

Here's hoping for v1 Eels!!!!

what would be cool for what you want would be.... 6 V1 Eels , along with an Eel commander , a Copperhead , and a Secto Viper....... for the Joes..... Wet-Suit , Torpedo, Deepsix, Depth Charge, Tracker , and Shipwreck.... in addition 2 Cobra Sea Rays and a couple SHARCs

That would be cool.

My only prediction is that Master Collector will charge crazy high prices for the exclusives and like a lemming during mating season I will follow along and spend a metric butt ton of money......again. Every year I say I wont buy everything, or multiples of several things. And every year since San Fran I have bought way more then I will ever need...lol.

I would like to see a sea theme as well. Eels V1 would be freakin sweet! I have not clue however what this years set will be. I have liked them all but the favorite one for me has to be the IG one. Perhaps they will have a Wild Bill in the set since the con is on Texas and he is a Texan? I would not mind a Night Force theme as well. Of coarse there is always hope for a Python Patrol set too. I thought that there was a huge possiblity that we were going to get a python patrol copper head as a parachute figure at last years con, but that as we all know did not happen. Hopefully the parachute figure will be back this year. The con is quickly approaching too.

I'm loving the Eels. Now that we've got a cartoon Baroness in dive gear coming out, it makes me want some more RAH divers to hang around on my TTBP. Cartoon versions of some Joes in dive gear, and maybe a cartoon-accurate Torpedo along with a comic-book style Deep Six (without dive gear, I mean) would make for a good set with 6-12 Cobra Eels.

See, I'm wishing that I had bought MORE exclusives. For a second I was on the fence as to whether I was going to get the Starduster/Grand Slam pack, and now I wish I had bought ten, not to mention at least one of that awful Roddy Piper figure.

I can only dream. Good thoughts on that set.

I have pieced together sets in my mind revolving around Eels, but I never thought to use the Secto Viper. The Joes you mentioned are the exact ones I was thinking of. Having them updated would be awesome, especially Tracker since he seems to be a good choice for a makeover.

If they make that Eels set that would probably be my first Convention set to buy! :D

It has always been to hard for me to get any... but I would make an exception for that set!

You're right, the Secto Viper is a great mold that could look even better with a more subdued paint scheme. Bring it on!

Because you are a freak! ;) Besides, I said "quite possibly". Out of all the sets, I actually own two of the IG set.

I don't think this is out of the realm of possibility based upon the hint Lanny gave us on the GIJCC forum a long long time ago (read = a few months after the ATL con).

This is an 100% true prediction!! I wholeheatedly concur. This year I am bring the wife and I will have her pick up extras to deffer (sp??) costs of the trip and fund raisers for JOhio and the CFB.

Nice one Tazzz.....Python Patrol and a Wild Bill for Texas are good suggestions.....we did after all get a Gung-Ho in New Orleans didn't we....albeit a club store bought item, not in the set.

I can only dream. Good thoughts on that set.

I don't want to know what you dream about dude! @loll@

Anyway, like I said before, I guarantee, NO TANKS! @hmmm@

.....although, wouldn't it be something if they got their tooling problem solved and had them for sale in the club store.......

I have such a Vivid imagination so heres a few cool ideas I just came up with..........

How about this..

A set Called "Blades in the Sky" 5 Gyro vipers , 5 Heli-Vipers , Wild Weasel & Vapor along with a Wild Bill , Flint and Glenda .... as for vehicles , 1 Cobra Mamba , and 2 Fangs painted for Joes(Green Gray & Black)

This i've mention awhile back.....

"Operation Freeze" 5 Snow Serpents , 5 Ice Viper, Snow Serpent Commander, Major Bludd , Snow Job , Iceberg and Cool Breeze. for Vehicles one "Cobra" Ice Sabre , and 2 Rockslides

then this ...

"Circut Suprise" 6 Tele Vipers, 2 Techno Vipers, & Techno Commander , along with Breaker, Dailtone, Mainframe, Hacker, Hi Tech, and Harddrive .... the theme is that the Joes infiltrate the Cobra Communication Center.....

There's just a few I had in mind.

I love it... Paint it black and call it a "Black Mamba". It'd look even better than the original, easily.

And I'd love a Glenda figure, and maybe they could do Flint and Wild Bill in cartoon colours.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'll only be interested in the set if it uses 25th joes. I seriously doubt it will happen but it would be cool. I understand the reason why they never used the VvV/JvC figures, because the joe community was so devided about them... but If MC was smart, they'd give the RAH molds a rest and go with 25th molds. I'd say at least 90% of the joe community is in to them. They'd probably be the biggest sellers ever. IMO

I doubt that they would ever use the 25th style figures ..... we'll se a couple JVC /VVV style con figure before 25ths.

You think? I wouldn't be surprised if they did one as soon as next year. It would piss off some RAH fans for sure, but they're not stupid - they've seen the interest in 25th exclusives, and interest is just going to increase until at least the release of the movie.

As long as we get a mix of RAH and 25th exclusives, I wouldn't mind. I don't think it will happen this year though, since they probably didn't have much access to 25th molds/designs this close to its launch.

I don't think we'll ever see a "new sculpt" con set.

You know, I can understand not seeing pics yet ( cause we all know they like to drag it out and drive us crazy ) but with the con only 3 months away we should have at least heard of the set name or something. Its bad enought they dont say anything about the exclusives until the con but to keep this quite and not say anything yet is crazy. And dont get me wrong, I'm still going to the con and buying the set regardless so I'm not saying this is causing me not to, I just think its absurd that we havent heard anything about the set yet.

I do like the red shadows, Action Force ideas done in rah. All the rest of the ideas sound cool too. I think the action force is a good idea, but chances of it happening are probably slim. I like what they did with Joe canuck and custom made some characters as well.
