whats the story behind blue and red superman?

i always loved the blue costume , superman had for a while. then when he turned red i wasnt that amazed by it. or where there two supermans that time? i dont know? since the 2 figures are coming why did he changed his original costume?

I'm not sure if I remember everything correctly and I haven't moved all my comics up to my new house yet so I can't go check but here's what I think happened.

 

1. The Sun Eater shows up in a DC mini-series "Final Night" The extended lack of solar energy leaves Superman a "normal man" for a time.

 

2. Superman's powers still haven't come back some time after that. *This part I'm not sure of* Soooo, he gets a jumpstart from Cadmus labs or something like that.

 

3. His powers are a bit out of control and The Contessa (Lex Luthor's wife) uses her money and resources to build a containment suit to hold the energy form that Supes is transforming into. Superman Blue is born. In this form Superman's powers are electric in nature. He can still transform into a "regular human" form when he's Clark Kent.

 

4. Skip ahead a year or so and *Again not sure of this part* Superman comes into contact with some weird devise that splits him into two personalities. Superman Red is born.

Superman Red is more of a go getter, very aggressive but lacking in compassion.

Superman Blue is caring and kind but a bit of a wuss.

Superman Red/Blue is actually an idea used in some golder or silver age superman comics.

 

5. Eventually the two supermen are merged together and his original powers return.

Interesting thanks for that! I Have always liked those outfits and looks as well & found his new powers kind of funky in a cool way in what few comics I have read with them... They just "look neat" in general really

I realize that die-hard Supes fans are vomiting in their cheerios after reading this, but I can't help it.

 

So...I'm looking forward to the Ble/Red figs in Wave II.

never merged they both got used up in a fight against some giant things...... and in superman forever i think the normal superman returned.

Don't feel bad you're not the only one clearly or these would not even have been made

 

Personally I think its nice we are getting different supermen and batmen if we must get one in each wave at least its a different outfit & style!

...Just one more thing...

 

I think that the genesis of Superman Blue/Superman Red actually goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the Silver Age...

 

...But since I'm not too conversant on Silver Age DC, I'd need confirmation from someone who is.
