The story developing from Botcon and the toy set will involve the Heroic Decepticons vs the Evil Autobots. Heres the PDF info from Botcon.

BotCon Figure Set

This year’s chronicle shatters everything you thought you knew about

Transformers! Here is a universe you never expected...

On a world known as Cybertron, a ruthless

and cruel tyrant prepares his army for an

all out attack. Their destination: a planet,

rich in resources, known as Earth! Only a

small band of rebels stands between this evil

warlord and his plans for universal conquest.

If these brave soldiers are unable to stop the

attack, then there will be nothing to prevent

this shattered universe from falling victim

to the maniacal Optimus Prime and his evil

legion of... Autobots?

This is truly a malformed universe where

the Decepticons are heroic and the Autobots

are evil!

Coming this spring, the battle lines will be drawn and a new champion

will emerge. A young and noble Decepticon will stand up and fight for

freedom, the freedom, which is the right of all Transformers! Advising

him will be his trusted lieutenant Starscream, and his fellow virtuous

Decepticons. They will fight to the very last to stop the spread of

Optimus Prime’s tyranny!

Don’t miss this outstanding collection of Transformers figures as it is a

one-of-a-kind “must have” for every Transformers Fan’s collection!

I must admit I was waiting for something like this to come from somewhere.

I just think they should have changed the faction names from Autobots and Decepticons. Decepticons doesn't sound like a faction name for any kind of good guys.

It should just be something like Prime leading the Cybertronian empire and name Megatrons band of rebels something else that makes more sense.

In a way this is similar to my own "universe" type story I partly wrote. In that, Megatron actually conquered Cybertron, NOT through force, but by winning the masses of TF's to his side. Cybertron is the center of an empire ruled by the Decepticons.

The Autobots are of course the rag-tag band of resistance fighters battling to end Megatron's tyranny.

In a bit of a twist, the Autobots are exiled in stasis on a prison barge which crashes on earth, which is totally unknown to the Decepticons.

While on earth they get reactivated to a hostile reception from earths defense forces (which are considerably more advanced than we are now) but they eventually come to a peace and become allies.

As the story goes on, the Autobots manage to hook up with other allies and mount a rebellion against Megs and his empire. Better yet, the earth forces being more advanced are able to play a much more integral part of the fight. Think something along the lines of piloted gundam-like mechs that developed from studying Autobot technology.

I like the idea because we actually get to see what a world ruled by Megatron would really be like. Rather than his ambitions simply being an empty plot device, we get to see what it would be like if he truly DID rule all. So many possibilities to come up it, it's really fun to write.

I wonder how the alts be, if they change them.

Initially, when I read the title, I thought MC was making toys based off that one pre movie G1 episode where MEgatron tricked the humans that they are good guys and the Autobots are bad guys.

If they don't go with this route and do a story where the autobots are bad and the decepts are good,I can imagine them changing Prime into a Monster Truck(unforunately, I can only recall one Monster Truck in the Cybertron line, which was quite small,) and Megatron being a modern airplane rather than a military one.

Another possibly is that MC may probably reverse the alts mode as in giving Prime classics Megatron's nerf pistol body and Megatron receiving Prime's truck body.

This is kind of interesting... I wonder how it'll effect the toys, if they do any. How do you make a Autobot sign look bad? Or a decepticon sign look good? Unless they switch the colors???

RC it wont really affect the toys you see in the stores. Itll be a Botcon comic or something along with a few Botcon exclusive toys. Much like Dawn of Futures Past.

I'm sure RC means how will it affect the looks of the BotCon toys. I don't know if they are using Gen 1, movie, or what, but take for instance Gen 1.

How do you take the Gen 1 Optimus Prime and make him look evil? I think the Nemesis Prime idea works for him. All black with purple highlights, and Decepticon Symbols. Now for Megatron, I don't think they would really be able to make a guy who turns into a hand gun look like a good guy. Maybe for him, use the Gen 2 tank, and give him a redish paint scheme that is similar to Warpath.

I actually had an idea a while back where I wanted to add "Clones" to my collection, and started looking for all the Gen 1 characters that were released in all black (Prime, Hot Rod, Jazz, Sideswipe, Megatron, Soundwave (Soundblaster), Starscream, etc) and give them faction symbols opposite what the original characters had. Autobot Megatron, Soundwave, and Starscream, against Decepticon Prine, Jazz, Hot Rod, etc.

Yeh, that's what i meant, the BotCon toys. I wonder how that'll work. SHould prove interesting... definitely not the MOST creative idea, but at least they are trying something different.

The main problem is we don't know SQUAT about this.

All we know is a minimally basic theme.

It could be that the Autobots are painted "evil" colors while the Decepticons are painted "good" colors. It could be simply a faction symbol switch. It could be, as rika said, making the Autobot symbol look "evil" and the Decepticon one look "good" (switching the colors would be primary to that). I mean if we had ANY idea on which toys even, we could have something.

It's not like they haven't done it before anyway. A good example could be Cybertron Jetfire remade into Cybertron Skyshadow. Same character one, technically Autobot, one technically Decepticon.

The concept seems lazy. At least it won't compare to the seeker debacle from last botcon.

I think if they could of used the movie figures we would of seen something different like a Skywarp and an Ultra Magnus

Since they can't use the movie figures there strapped with the figures that have been around for the past few years and possibly could only come up with this idea

i am wondering what molds are used as well. i thought it was stated on tformers in the news section some blurbs about the fis. one thing i thought i saw mentioned was something about a minicon associated with starscream which may mean they are using armada molds. i really hope so then i wont want to buy these things.

if i DID want to buy these they'd have to be more than just faction swaps. i would need some retooling done before i consider buying them. even then i cant think of a single mold that would make me buy a set.

it is a neat idea but i until i see some list of the toys they may use i am done worrying about these toys.

I don't think the club should be blamed for that. If Hasbro had plans to put out those seekers at retail, they would have. They didn't, so the club stepped up and offered them as exclusives.

Just sounds like another cheesy way to make more money.

It really shouldn't be looked at that way. The club exclusives give a little extra something to the fans. If someone's a completist type of collector and simply can't afford to get them, well, yeah, that kind of sucks, but that's the way it's going to be. I mean, I can't really afford to get MISB Diaclones or the second series of Argentinian GI Joes, but stuff like that enriches the hobby.

Your second comment applies to th first. But not in general. Granted we DON'T KNOW anything beyond the basic concept, this sounds like just another way to make money. It doesn't sound like its offering anything "extra".

Yes, heaven forbid a business try to make money.

Funny how last year people complained about the seekers and how they couldn't get them, and now hasbro has seemingly accomplished the opposite (as far as getting people excited about the botcon toys) and there's still complaining..

so..we want botcon toys to be good, just not too good, is that it? :P

1) Your forgetting the quintessential definition of "fan". That is to complain.

2) I often wonder what percentage of the people like exclusives and what percentage don't. I'll elucidate. I'm one that doesn't like exclusives.

And, I might add, WHAT are you talking about? The "opposite"? What is the "opposite" of people not being able to get the seekers? What does Hasbro have to do with it?
