Iron Man series 1 question

Recommended Posts

Just started collecting the ML figures on Dec 07, so i can say I'm new to the game. But, I purchased a ML Figure lot on ebay, and in the lot was a iron man series 1. It wasn't a gold iron man varient, but it did have a gold foil comic. Is this an error? cause I searched some info about it, but i only find the goild iron man w/ gold iron comic. Or was all iron man series 1 released with a gold foil comic?

yes and no. ml 1 iron-man was realised with a comic and a gold foil mini poster. they were sold evenly so i don't see how this is expensive.

The first Iron Man was released with the comic and Wal-Mart also released the version with the Gold Foil mini-poster (as well as elektra, punisher and Human Torch) Other versions include: Yellow Iron Man w/ gold poster (UK and Canadian versions), Gold Armor Iron man, Gold Armor Iron man w/ Gold poster(UK and Canada) and Stealth Armor Iron Man(wal-Mart)

Yeah its a poster, not a comic, i apologize for the confusion. So it isn't "expensive" huh. Man, i kinda had my hopes up that I had a rare figure for awhile, but I guess not. Oh Well, I open all my figures and this one had me thinking twice, but I guess I just got confirmation from you guys and I'm gonna go ahead and open it. Loose is how I like the figures anyway. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't open that if i were you. Anything from series 1 is worth quite a bit of money. The action figure store i go to has a series 1 iron man and its like 90$. Your choice man but if i was you i'd keep that thing sealed. Also i would take what most people here say with a grain of salt, cause remember most people here collect loose so they will open a figure regardless. For the best idea check the net, there are plenty of action figure sites and those can give you a pretty good idea of what a fig goes for.

Big deal, you keep your "Action Figures" in the plastic cases they're sold in?! Don't you dare take a holier than thou attitude, seeing that you're the abnormality! Toys are meant to be played with, displayed, traded and or broken. Not hoarded and kept in package like an array of Egyptian Mummies ("Now with non-gold sarcophagi!!!")

When the time comes for you to part with your collection we'll be happy to help you out in buying some off you. We, on the other hand, have no intention of turning a profit.

Holier than thou??? I don't think so.What i posted is simply my opinion.Someone that collects loose doesn't care if a fig is worth 1000.00$ they will open it because they wan't it loose because thats the way they like it and thats fine. I simply wanted to make him realize that asking advice to someone that doesn't collect the same way he does he might not get the answer he's looking for.

The reason i collect moc is simple, legends are to loose and don't stand up so i see no point in opening them to have them fall over constantly. This is simply my point of view, everybody is entitled to collect the way he/she wants. Im not looking for profit,i recently sold some stuff and i sold it for what i paid. I don't believe in cheating my fellow collectors just as i don't wan't to be cheated.

I agree with part of your statement, some would sell just as good loose, but some better loose than in package...I'm not convinced of that one.

See... A loose collector won't pay a grand for a figure! Don't belittle those who get joy out of our plastic hobby because you have separation anxiety. You can complain about Marvel Legends or you can stop collecting all together. Look at all those people who thought they'd be able to retire on the profits they'd make on Original Star wars figures... NADA! the market was too saturated. However you justify it, you just have a bunch of plastic clamshells with toys in them, not action figures, who by definition, are made for "ACTION"

wait, im confused here. I'm guessing there are two different types of collectors, the guys that keep'em in the package and the ones that get'em loose. after reading the thread, it makes me wonder if both worlds hate each other? pls tell me this isn't true.

That's why I quoted him... he thinks his collection methods are superior to ours because we 'cheapen" them by opening the packages. I think keeping the figures MOC "cheapen" the hobby...

What I do is I try to get two of each figure, that way I can keep one MOC to admire or trade away and one to play with. So I don't think that the two groups are mutually exclusive. Although I feel that MOC figures are more desirable to collect, loose figures are more fun to collect.

the VAST MAJORITY here opens their figs. so i say, let's OPEN that series 1 iron man of yours. you paid for the fig, not for the package, so, enjoy the fig. but in case you paid for the package, i'll be glad to sell you the empty packages of my MLs. hahaha... so, what's it gonna be? @firedevil@

ok ok... you figure, ML1 regular Ironman with a gold foil poster, isn't rare at all. They mass released that series in the US, a mix of waves 1-4 with foil posters...

I think the normal version, with comic, of ML1 Ironman is worth more because it was the first release.

However, it is still the ML1 Ironman.. and lots of these older figures are getting hot.

personally, I love the figure.. best Ironman figure ever in my opinion. I have one open and one MOC..

so he might be worth something because people want him.. but not because he is all that rare... I would guess he gets 25 bucks max.

ive seen face off war machines go for a lot more ($80+) loose than MOC with the Mandarin. I saw a mcfarlane spiderman sell for over $100 loose!!!!....its all about how u present the figure and the reputation of the seller. In the package you really cant judge how great a figure is...but you display that figure in diffrent poses and diffrent angles you make that figure look 10x's better. People will look at the pics and be like wow the figure looks great, its a good figure to have.

How many people have opend figures and been disappointed afterwards? I know i have and thats y i started at the age of 9 to collect MOC, and would only ever open figures i really realy liked. One great exampl is the hydra figure that just came out.....now a lot of people complained about the look of the joints, but nothign much was said aobut the mobility of the figure. I was like EH! whatever the joints dotn bother me....but I opened one and got messing around with it...guess what the figure is utter crap u barely ahve any mobility in the knees or elbows...that figure sucked.

but now im off the subject....you can get just as much for loose figures if not more than MOC....the other reason is that peopel overseas and stuff would be willign to shell out more for a loose figure instead of shellign out more $$ to pay for shipping.

Example: MOC could cost $50 plus $10 shipping but if it were loose the buyer could be willing to pay $50+ if shipping would only be $5 or less. Shipping plays a big part, people would be willing to pay more for a figure if they pay less for shipping.

Thanks for knocking some sense to me to not open it. I just caught a deal of the first iron man for 11 bucks including shipping. Nice!

don't listen to us mate. if you want to opne it then open. if you don't then don't. i did open my one (got it for a tenner) and it was the exact same version as yours. so it really your choice.

Hellion, great job scoring the Iron Man, and for a fair price too.

Y'know what's funny too, is that there's all this back and forth of MOC vs loose figures, and some MOC collector's have the resale value in mind. However, I've been watching Ebay sales for ML and they actually sell for higher prices if they're loose! I don't know why, maybe loose figures cost less to ship so people tend to bid higher, but I've seen some figs go for more loose than MOC.

First off take a chill pill! Your the one thats coming off superior here. I don't care how others collect, I happen to like moc but thats me. You like loose ,hey more power too ya!

You think your high and mighty cause you collect loose! I don't think so. I've said it time and time again to each his own!

Its guys like you ARES that make these forums less agreable by bitching at anybody that happens to disagree with your opinions. You like loose others prefer moc, learn too respect that. GROW UP!!

I see your point. Hadn't thought about it that way.Makes sense. Shipping would be less for a loose fig since the package is much smaller. I guess a loose collector would rather pay more for a loose figure than less for a moc but with more shipping.
