1986 Movie Speculation or Realization

We all know Ultra Magnus was supposed to be the leader but Hot Rod wound up becoming the leader. We also know the matrix was passed to UM.

 

OR WAS IT????

 

Prime dropped the Matrix and Hotrod grabbed it (and it gave off a powerful glow) maybe this is the passing of the Matrix. Hotrod being the next to touch it became who it was passed to. This could be why UM couldnt open it.

 

Thoughts?

i think it was originally UM but hot rod grabbed it so it wouldnt hit the ground. and because of that it wouldnt open for UM, it didnt recagnise him

 

 

i remember an old topic where everyone was discussing UM wanting to kill(?) prime??????????? what episode, or show was that????? if g1, what season? ( before or after movie ) cause i dont remember that one.

I think in RID UM wanted to kill Prime... G1 UM was a loyal soldier... I always assumed that the Matrix choose its owner...

It was RID. RID UM hated Prime and despised him everytime he caused them to merge. UM was supposed to be the leader and (I cant recall) Prime wound up with the Matrix.

That was my theory too when I grew up watching it and was convinced it was. Prime was to pass the Matrix onto Ultra Magnus, however he dropped it. Magnus and Hot Rod both tried to catch it, but Hot Rod touched it first, making him the chosen one. I know the Matrix lit up right when Hot Rod touched it, yes i know too it was done to make it dramatical but signs of the Matrix affects on Hot Rod were showing evidence... "The Matrix can stop Unicron!" How do you know lad? I just have this feeling!

Now just imagine if Ultra Magnus HAD gotten it!

 

Magnimus Prime woulda kicked ass compared to Rodimus.

Though it was wierd, he actually had to open the thing before he turned into Rodimus Prime. When he first grabbed it and it went all glowy, nothing happened.

I think it was destiny that had Hot Rod become Rodimus Prime. Ultra Magnus was most fit to lead at the time of Optimus Prime's death so he passed the Matrix to him. Also, Prime dying words were that one day an Autobot will rise from our ranks and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour. This means Prime knew that while Ultra Magnus may be leader now he won't be later. Magnus thought that HE was chosen to light their darkest hour but it turned out to be HIS darkest hour when he attempted.

What do you think Magnus would have changed into if he had opened it?

The Matrix couldn't be opened because at that point when UM tried to open it ,it wasn't the Autobots darkest hour

 

The Matrix contains knowledge from millions of years

 

 

Don't you think it couldn't sense that Unicron was the greater threat then Galvatron was?

i HATE changing the subject, but this UM hating prime interests me bigtime, now is this RID a cartoon series? where do i find this? i would like to see the series if there is one.

The next leader of the autobots was Prime's choice. Now we all know the story is based around Hot Rod becoming Rodimus. Keep in mind this movie was written for kids, so obvious foreshadowing is used.

 

When Hot Rod picks up the falling Matrix, it gives off the glow. This is just dramatic foreshadowing for what's to come. It's also saying that the Matrix matches well with Hot Rod. I think that him becoming Rodimus wasn't just him putting the Matrix in his chest, he powered up like that because the Matrix was in power-up mode and he was there to be the avatar. UM was still able to hold the Matrix in his chest. I saw nothing in that movie that made me think that getting the Matrix powered you up, the show insinuated that to gain it's wisdom you have to sort of robot-meditate and learn from it, it wasn't an immediate uber-power-up. I doubt that Hot Rod could've held it when Prime died, and if so I don't think it would've powered him up like that.

Mediation is what transformed Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime?

 

It exactly WAS an "uber-power-up"!

 

Mediation requires some calm and tranquility of some kind. Hot Rod was struggling and fighting with Galvatron. He finally managed to break the chain around Galvatron's neck and open it.

 

Now, it's possible that hearing Optimus' voice was enough to calm him which was enough to allow is transformation into Rodimus. It just seems unlikely to me that it could happen that quickly.

 

If the glow was merely foreshadowing, I don't think either answer is satisfactory.
