WWE Hall of Fame

hey everyone, I'm a LONG time reader of the boards, but am just now getting around to putting up my own profile. anyway, I was wondering if anyone actually lends anymerit whatsoever to the WWE Hall of Fame. I persoanl can't put any stock in a list that added Pete Rose before the Iron Shiek and Hulk Hogan ar added William "the Fridge" Perry without even placing "Ravishing" Rick Rude or "Macho Man" Randy Savage. the Legion of Doom are known as an almost unanimously favorite tag team the world over, but their spots were taken by commentators Jim Ross and Jesse "the Body" Ventura (I realize, Jesse was a worker, but his in-ring career is far from memorable and definitley not the reasonhe made the list). WWE doesnt appreciate Pete Rose being dissed by the baseball hall of fame for demoaralizing his team and entire sport, so they offer him a spot on their list for a few funny Wrestle-Mania moments? it all boils down to politics. WWE has beef with Randy Savage, so his legendary status deserves no recognition. Jim Ross has NO in-ring abilty (brilliant commentator of course) but he basically does more than anyone can imagine behind the scenes, so we scratch his back and give him a nod. I have nothing but respect for Jim Ross, but he doesnt belong in the Hall of Fame when so many more still have yet to make the cut. where is the Honkey Tonk Man? where is "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and "the Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase? WWE's hall of Fame is fun for what it is, but you'd have to be kidding yourself to take it seriously. ALL opinions are welcomed

I already know everyone will see me as the "WWE yes man" but I'll share my opinion with you anyway.

Right now, the WWE Hall of Fame is the best Hall of Fame going in wrestling today simply because it is the only major Hall of Fame (some people will say "well, what about the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame?" and I will say "Hey Meltzer! Get back down in your grandmother's basement and beat off to those 5-star Japanese matches than 99% of people outside of Japan will never see.") going.

Every Hall of Fame is objective and that's what makes them controversial. You see a problem with Jim Ross, Pete Rose, William Perry in the Hall of Fame while guys like Ted DiBiase, the Road Warriors, Honky Tonk Man are not in yet. The only thing that can be said is to give them time. I think these guys would be in the Hall of Fame if the WWE had not taken a break with it from 1996-2004. Unless they choose to do a massive (and I mean massive considering the greats who are yet to be inducted) induction one time, it will still be a decade before all of those truly deserving of a place within the Hall of Fame will get inducted because you can only induct 7-10 people a pop.

WWE Hall of Fame is as valid in the world of professional wrestling as the NFL Hall of Fame is to it and the Baseball Hall of Fame is to it. Why is Art Monk, one of the most dependable WR's in the history of the game, not in the NFL Hall of Fame? Andre Reed, Jim Marshall, Richard Dent, John Randle. Football has tons of snubs. What will baseball do with Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and the other 950 steroid players of that era? Are their stats to be forgotten or do they get entry into Cooperstown? If that is the case and they are allowed in, does that allow Pete Rose entry (because at least he didn't inject beef roids in his ass to hit the ball harder)? And, let's not even start about baseball's Hall of Fame ignorance towards the negro leagues (and the disgrace that is was in waiting until after he died before allowing the 94-year old Buck O'Neil into the Hall of Fame).

Hall of Fames are jokes and they are honors at the same type. One thing that is a constant though is that they will always cause people to have discussions about them and to remember the best in their respective sports. And really... is that not what a Hall of Fame is all about?

my first thought about the need for time to get all of the deserving guys in was, of course you can't just throw everyone in at once, but that was really my point. with so many people deservivg the recognition and so little space, why gve it to Pete Rose and the Fridge?...then I read the rest of your post and realized how pointless my original postactually was. you made so many great points, but none as noteworthy as this one...

Another thing to remember is the WWE is trying to follow in the footsteps of other HOFs. Every single one inducts both athletes and broadcasters. As to why guys like Pete Rose gets in,I don't know. I think that had more to do with Vince trying to one up Cooperstown.

It's pretty much a gurantee that Ric Flair will be inducted this year. If Vince isn't still cheesed at Rick Rude for jumping ship to WCW during the Monday Night Wars, then I'd say he'd be in. I'd like to see Ted Dibiase in as well. The Road Warriors would be a nice addition. Either that or Demoliton. Slick is the only one of the old school managers that has not been inducted yet. I wouldn't been surprised if Mae Young is inducted as well. She's not getting any younger and it would be nice to do it while she's still alive.
