GREEDY M'er F'er

You start a topic calling people you don't know an M'Fer and call people A'holes in said topic then attack everyone who disagree's with you. I made a simple joke about putting them on Ebay and you attacked me called me a liar, but I'm the one that starts flamewars. Then try and cover it all with I thought there was brotherhood in the toy aisle sorry but I smell the pot calling the kettle black. If never once called you an idiot but I guess your read into that all yourself, hey if the shoe fits wear it. And how do you figure its the exception and not the rule just cause you say so? A few posters have stated there kids are into the new Joes but I guess they are wrong becuz of your "personal experience". Next time I post make it relevent to the topic? I did that I stated why I would buy 2 you just choice to blow it off, call it a lie then mock it. But I guess its not valid if it doesn't bow down and agree with you.

Yes,to remind you my topic was a general statment of frustration immediately after the incident occured, As for the insult you didn't call me an idiot out right but added the pretext "some idiot" and of course you direct that comment towards me. And again I said the kids not being into Joes thing is a based on my own personal experience with my son his buddies, and the kids in the toy aisles. I always stated that their lack of interest was my opinion, NOT absolute fact in the very same paragraph. There's always an exception, like i said before. That's why I was sure to say "in general". No one has to agree with me, I was just frustrated and started the topic because it's happened to people in the past, and I needed to vent and see what to do the next time this situation happens. Some people offered up some great advice and solutions in this thread, but you resorted to insults and flame baiting, So I had to call you out on it. Nothing personal, but that post was just mean and unecessary. Thank you for airing out what was bothering you in this thread in a civil and polite response.

Why do you assume he was a scalper? Maybe he wanted two for himself? I mean the pack does have 3 army builders in it. We army builders are a greedy bunch... but that doesn't mean we are scalpers. Or maybe his best friend told him to pick one up for him if he saw it... You never know man. I know it is irritationg to just miss a twoy you want but give the guy some slack. He is not nessicarily the scum of the earth because he bought both packs.

WHAtever.....Then if you want to build your mighty toy army go online.....save the figures for the rest of us....

Why don't u take your own advice and buy them online? Since u obviously can't handle the B&M search without crying about it to everyone.

Maybe if your avatar to "smiling" charlie brown you will be happier. :)

I understand the frustration but generalizations are fuel for the fire

This situation sound like it could have happened to Charlie Brown, the dude with the figures was like Lucy with the football. Anyways, like I said before on page 2 or 3, I found the set after another 2 hours of toy hunting, So all's well that ends well.

OCH22 is right, this thread has run it's course, let's let it be. I don't think the thread has anything else to offer. Actually I'm suprised it's dragged on this many pages in the first place.

Buying a few is alright, one to open and one to keep in the box, or to trade with buddies or hooking them up. But "army building", that's stupid, are your toys going off to war or something?

You can't do this with just one figure..........

I Apologize for getting off on the wrong foot. Like I said I buy 2 of everything one for me and one for my son who is 13, he really likes these new figs and wants them all. He has been into GI Joe on and off Since Joe Vs Cobra then into Spytroops and VVV but I admit this is the first time he has been 100% serious about getting them all. As I said he bought the first 2 5 packs with his own birthday money and I made a deal with him that if I find the ones he needs I will buy them no matter what and he can earn them. Mainly due to the fact they are somewhat hard to find. I also apologize if you feel I attacked your son, It wasn't my purpose I added the 13 becuz I realised he had to be younger but I was trying to point out not everyones kid is as young as you seemed to assume. I understand you were frustrated I think we all are a bit, I went to Wal-Mart this morning and found a lone Red Ninja I couldn't help but feel frustrated then thinking I always seem to miss em by just a bit, I just missed wave 3 and if only I had come earlier like I originally planned I coulda nabbed em. It's hard trying to collect one of each 2 is getting to be murder.

I'll offer up an apology too, great minds like us can be grating sometimes. It's all love here at TNI. The main point of my starting the thread, is I have never been in a toy aisle at the exact same time with another collector looking for the exact same thing, and was suprised he was like f you dude finders keepers. The decent thing would have been to offer up one of the two boxes, since they were exactly the same.

Now if he was holding the entire wave three and he only had 1 of each in his hand, I would have been ok with that, no problem. The thing that gets me is that he had two of the SAME item and was like screw me.

I was at Walmart wed afternoon, I did find 2 Cobra legion packs, but didnt buy one. Im more interested in Wave 1,2,3 singles, plus I didnt haven enough money with me. When I do have more money and if im lucky enough to stop by walmart again sometime, I'll buy a pack.

Sorry that you two happened to be the ones to brings this up but...

When you don't have the "money with you" what's the reason for not using a credit card? Do you people have a) no credit, B) bad credit? Do you folks think that you instantly have to pay interest with a CC. (And with bad or low credit it's in the 25% area...)

I've, much like Arrow's "fairness"-comments, only seen this problem in toy collecting. In our "gotta have it now"-society credit cards are quite helpful in the respect that you can purchase the item when you see it, and pay for it when your credit card is due. All my purchases over $10 go on my credit card, that gets paid off every month. I have never had a month where I had to pay interest (due to paying it off), even though I did pay my credit card bill on day late once...

I was at Target in vallejo, ca. yesterday. I saw 3 of the 1st Cobra 5 Pack (w/CC, Destro,Baroness, SS, Cobra Trooper) and i was like Wow. I can pick one up now. I opened the flap on all 3 of them and some b@stard switched out the Cobra Trooper with a Valor vs Venom Cobra Viper.

I went to a K-mart yesterday and found another one but this time they were all the right figures in the box so i bought it.

I actually pointed it out to an Employee at that Target, when I saw it on Saturday. Sorry btw, I got Wave 2 when they were attempting to put it out. :) (I saw and snatched the case.)

Hey!For once I agree with ARROW,he's 110% right on that comment about Collectors serving themselves FIRST before others.

I'm also with the group that will buy multiples and if I got a pair of Cobra Legion packs and someone asks them if I need them both at the store...I have no problem saying "Yes". I would even say "Yes" if I had 3 of them...maybe at 4 I'd be willing to give one up but to be honest I have spent so much time, money (for gas), and gas to try and find this new stuff that I'm not about to give anything I find up so readily. Maybe in some areas they're all over the place...but here in Northern Virginia...they're NOWHERE.

I can honestly say that if I saw 2 cases of GI Joe 25th Wave 2 or 3 figures on the shelves...I'd buy them all and have no hesistation in turning away anyone who asked for them...

I was at Toys R' Us and bought about 4-5 Cobra 5-Packs (the 1st one) and one of the TRU employees straight-up asked me if I was putting them up on eBay and I told him right back that I wasn't because I collect them. Those packs are still all with me and I will probably NEVER put them on eBay.

WHY?????? Why would you buy 4 of those? I could understand 2 (one to open....one to play with (whatever) ) Thats greed pour and simple!!! If they really are no where to be found where you live....you just screwed another collector over because your greedy!!! These things are hard to find and you just have to have 4......you make me sick. Id give anything to find just one. They should put a limit on the amount you can buy.....Because Pokiman (gotta catch em all) here needs to just be that guy. Why dont you take one of those 5 packs and put it p your ......

Where do you live? And you could have saved yourself the trouble of whining this much if you had just bought your stuff off e-bay, or an online vendor. Instead you choose to drive store-to-store...

-Kevin

Home boy....im not whining....just complaining and i wont support scalpers on ebay for 5-6 dollar toys....see I have a life with bills....just because you live in your moms basement and afford to be at TRU every morning. Yes some of us drive store to store.....sorry I dont feel like paying out the ass for this stuff.

Oh please.........screwed over another collector???? Pray tell HOW?

What is keeping that collector from ordering the item on-line? What's keeping that collector from having a friend pick up a set in another city? What's keeping that collector from this stuff at all??

N-o-t-h-i-n-g.

Oh......wait.........there's a "should" on the tip of your tongue, right?

"He should be able to go into a store and buy it like anyone else! Its his constitutional right!"

(okay, maybe not that last part)

Y'know the market place we have at our disposal is global now. That means we can shop in virtually any country. Heck, we can shop in almost any part of our OWN countries without leaving our homes.

Where's the impediment here? What's the obstacle?

There is none.

Rather than whine or complain that someone is "helpless" in this.......why not realize that the options to get these things are MUCH greater than in one single community.

They should put a limit on the amount you can buy.....Because Pokiman (gotta catch em all) here needs to just be that guy. Why dont you take one of those 5 packs and put it p your ......

There's the "should"........

They should put a limit on it???

Y'know.....that's a communist line of thinking? Everyone is equal and we are all entitled to an equal share?

I doubt any of us here are living in a communist state.

Y'know.........capitalism isn't fair, and commerce isn't fair either......nor is consumption.

First come, first served is the rule in most commerce.

Also, you snooze, you lose.

Do you take that last piece of pizza in the fridge or do you slice it in half and leave it there for the next guy?? Or the last can of soda in the cooler, or do you take it and shove down your throat while wearing a sh!t-eating grin--counting yourself lucky that you got it first?? Quite a few people do.

Hey, that's life--welcome to it.

Have you paid attention to the points made in this thread?

Have you followed the reporting from Hasbro at the convention??

Heard the news that MORE sets are being made to meet the unexpected demand?

No?

It sounds like there is nothing to complain about here.

And there never has been.

Well for your info.....TRU is going to start doing that very thing...putting a limit on what you greedy SOBs are going to walk out with.....they know what your up to (Scalpers).....how do I know such a thing???? Because I called The TRU home office yesterday to let them know whats going on.....after I got off the phone with Hasbros Customer Service center of course.....both companys know whats going on....and in a few weeks you should start to see limit signs at TRU not letting you take more than 2 of the same thing. You know what they agreed with me 100 %. Im on the phone with Wally Worlds Customer Service right now and you know what they agree......By the way douch I do pay attention to these threads and the conventions because I go to them......so why dont you have a Coke and a smile and just shut up!!!!!!! Now you know and knowings half the battle...........

Well, if are driving store to store for the stuff, you ARE paying out the ass for it.

Factor your gas costs, the time it takes, the toll on your patience, the frustration of not finding things--all of those things have a "price" attached to them. If a $6 item cannot be found easily in a store, paying $8, $10 or more isn't asking much if you order it on-line--especially if if gives you less angst.

People say;" Well, I SHOULD be able to just walk into a store and buy the toy I want!"

Sorry, but that "should" is more "bull-should" for the "should-pile". Because of the current collecting climate, these toys we buy are no longer just "toys". That's the reality a lot of people are either denying or trying to avoid. Because so many of the same kinds of people are vying for the same kinds of items, getting those items is going to involve doing things differently than in the past--which includes, unfortunately, spending a bit more for those items.

If at the end of the day, I've spent $10 for a $6 collectible toy, and I'm HAPPIER because I've gone through less hassles to get it--then the extra expense is worth it.

I don't know about you..........but where I come from, people that b!tch and complain about things are not happy, and if they are not happy in the hobby then they probably should take steps to do things differently.

That some people obvious stick with the SAME approach and just complain louder leads me to think they are either stupid, or that complaining has become their hobby.

I'd say to you or anyone that you owe it to yourself to be happy and try something different to see if it works.

If you cannot adapt, you WILL be a lot less happy.

of course its greedy and selfish to buy multiples. of course its a compulsion. and of course it is a hinderance on the collector community. but is it somehow wrong to do so?

no.

this is the hobby we have chosen. it isn't something we are deserving of or are entitled to. you get what you are able to obtain by the means you choose, whether that is retail, online or secondary market. nobody owes you.

Hasbro has also stated, unless I misunderstood reports from the con, that all previous waves would see new production to get them back at retail. if that is true, I am confident that the pegs will be full of Joes throughout the holiday season. and when that happens, all the people who bough hoards of figures to alleviate the fear of never finding them again, will be stuck with multiples of worthless figures.

I have already stated my opinion that figure hoarders are led by a fear that if they do not buy a figure now, even if it is just an extra one, that they are afraid if they ever wanted a second or third or tenth, that they won't be able to find it, so when they do find them they buy everything -- just in case. I find that ridiculous, but that is the compulsion they suffer.

but on the flip side, when I attempt to sell my used Joes, everybody wants them for as cheap as possible. that's the hit I take, so if I choose to buy extras of something that I may pneday be ale to sell as well at a profit to those same consumers, they can't complain about being ripped off because they were just as equally willing to give me less for another toy and save some money.

the point is, nobody is right in this argument and nobody is wrong. these are just the dynamics we have to endure in this hobby we choose to participate in.

personally, I help people out, and I hope others do the same for me if I need it. I just got hooked up with a Roddy Piper, bagged con set and Grand Slam/Starduster 2 pack from a friend who went to the con. I am extremely appreciative for that. but I also find it hard to resist the opportunity to sell the Piper and GS/SD sets if they are going for $200 apiece. I like the figures, butu at that mark up, is it worth keeping them. but nobody can complain that I am somehow doing a disservice to the community by doing so, especially when I have been selling my army builders for $1 or $2 a piece. I didn't buy them to resell, but when I choose to do so you can be certain I will without any regret to the price people are going to have to pay to obtain them.

Ewwww did someone watch Mr Rogers yesterday morning??? Learning big words and all (Antagonistic) Do I care whos ass you kiss? NO!!! Do I care about what you think? NO!!! Dont you have somekind of Army to build in your Moms basement or something? Now please let the adults talk here.....theres a big highway you can go play in........

I had to quote these three posts to contradict your "I don't care"-comment.

And as far as customer service, and signage goes... Of course they agreed with you. But why would they care WHO buys their items as long as SOMEONE buys them? I sure as hell wouldn't as a business manager. Sales are the bottom line. NO business will limit items to individuals if that business wants to keep sales going. (In the non-retail food industry at least.)

So, all Joe collectors that army build live with their parents and in the basement no less?

And if you can't afford to collect, maybe you shouldn't. I don't think either SW or Joe will suffer from your lack of patronage.

Support of scalpers on e-bay? Try buying from some other site. Smalljoes, BBTS, Gijoeheaven... There's plenty of non-ebay places to purchase these items that are not e-bay.

And as far as refusing to pay $6-7 more per figure... You probably spend more like $10-12 more per figure if you hit up all the stores in your area once a week, and have YET to find anything...

I don't shop at TRU and haven't for the past 5 years. My toy-buying regime doesn't even involve large chains.

Hey pal......I'm enjoying collecting, you are not.

The best advice going is right here in this thread, but you don't want to take heed of it.

You can figure out whose doing what right on your own, okay.
