GREEDY M'er F'er

Whats wrong with "scalping" if you wanna make an extra buck? I do it all the time to pay off my collection. Buy one and get some of your money back selling the second or third. Not easy being a huge joe collecter while paying off a mortage or explaining to your wife what you did with the money you were supposed to pay the electrical bill with.I'm not greedy, just trying to survive and collect joes at the same time. First in best served I always say.I find it a little weird that you asked a guy carrying two joe packs away if he "really" needed them.As for helping a "fellow joe collector"?? are you serious? I understand your anger on missing out I really do but you can't go judging and branding other people when they beat you to what you want. I'll leave you to these final words, I really love those cobra packs and I plan on army building them so all you scalper haters beware for I will clean out every store carrying these items (unless you beat me to it) so that I can army build the biggest cobra army ever assembled.Mwhahahahahahhahaha

P.S

If you DO beat me to it no hard feelings for it is your money and you have the right to buy as many as you want.

Just leave 1. please? :)

On my way home from work I get this strange urge to go into Target, I had a feeling they had the legion 5 pack in. So I barrel on down to the toy aisle, and see this dude walking out of the aisle with BOTH legion packs. I missed grabbing one by literally 20 seconds! So I ask the guy " Hey Did you grab the last two?" He's all like YEAH in a what are you gonna do about it kind of voice. So I say, do you really need BOTH of them? And he puts his head down and scurries off to ebay. What a douch. I KNOW he's keeping on to himself and throwing the other one on Ebay! Man that pissed me off.

When the orginal 5 packs 1st came out, I spotted two of the Cobra Packs at a TRU, I only took ONE. Because that's all I needed, and Tazzzman or some other fan might breeze through and I made his day.

If there was a fellow Joe fan in the aisle and I was holding two of the exact same 5 pack on the 1st day they were put out, I totally would have handed one over. No problem, I'd be more than happy to make day!!

I hope karma really exists, because that was greedy as SH>> Whatta A---hole.

You know I never ever get into these kinda talks I always try and stay away from them and just read other thoughs! But I have to jump in on this one just to add my little 2 cents. I have not read any of this thread (olny your part) so I have not seen anyone elses opinion to mess up mine...... I don't believe the guy was wrong by takin the last 2 packs.... if it were say 5 or more in his hands then yes he could have been nice enough IF HE WANTED to give u one or 2. U don't know if he was goin to ebay any of it, most people do army. Could have been his first 2 packs? And he wanted 2! There was nothin wrong wit what he did IMO. I went into a walmart the other day and got 4 legion packs (I love these troops)! If there was another collector around me and wanted one yes I would have been ok wit givin him (or her) a pack because I wanted to, Not really cause it was the "right thing to do". First come first served! Thou I dont agree wit the greedy a$$es out there! And I don't like the ebayers like that either! Collect for yourself! Not for money! But I do admit I'm goin to sell a few of my troops to help me get more of the ones I really want and to help out people who only want one kinda trooper wit out buyin the whole 5 pack. I see the dealers do this all the time buy to sell for cash not to help themselfs or collectors! I don't do ebay...... I have an account that I have never ever used! My pretty big collection has come from shows and friends.

I'm in the position now that my five year old son wants his own collection. So if I had the luck of getting the last two sets- one would stay with me and one would go to my son. Sorry you missed out, but I'm sure they'll make more.

Cut the guy some slack Ren! Everybody knows that Army Builders and Ebay Scalpers have never seen a woman naked, so they need 50 Crimson Guards and Clone Shocktroopers to keep them company in their basements while they watch Firefly and read their Witchblade comics. I saw this disgusting tub at Walmart yesterday with an armfull of Storm Shadows scurrying towards the checkout, his forehead damp with perspiraton from extreme inactivity. He fit the "comic book guy" profile exactly. Watch some of the vids on Youtube of army builders and mass collectors, some of them are members here. You'll know them when you see them.

Yes, all of us that army build are just like that  I'm just amazed at the utter ignorance of people on here sometimes. There are most likely some people life that, yes . . . but have you ever been to a Joe Con? The majority of the people I met, many who are army builders, are regular guys, husbands, college grads, many were in fraternities (as was I), don't smell bad, own their own homes, hold solid jobs, and are otherwise decent individuals.

Please don't comment on things you know nothing about. Thanks, 'preciate it.

Exactly.

Maybe he wanted both for his PERSONAL reasons.

Why did you feel like he should not be able to buy both or that he should have given you one?

I'm not trying to argue..However, What right was it of yours to think that? I'm just curious.

I have no problem with him buying two, 12, or wiping the county out of stock, buy it all, I'm not in the store, what do I care, he got lucky. But when I'm STANDING IN THE FRIGGIN' AISLE with a fellow collector, and he's like f-u pal, that's a whole different level of greed I haven't experienced in my 15 years of toy collecting. Again, if there was only one, have at it, but there was 2 OF THESE EXACT SAME SET, and did I mention I"M STANDING right next to him!

The thing is, we both walked up literally at the same exact time, logic dictates he would do the decent thing and when I politely ask were you buying the last ones? Or something to that effect, he would offer me one of them. That's what I would have done if the shoe was on the other foot.

Bottom line is if I was the dude who grabbed them 20 seconds before he did,, and I was standing there holding them, I would have said you've been looking forward to these too? Well, he you go. Then he would say no it's ok, go ahead and keep both, and I would insist that he take one. Because that's the decent and ethical thing to do. And I have done this quite a few times with fellow collectors. I've done it with SW Rots, TF Classics, ML's you name it. Because when there's a brand new line or even series/wave, I realize I'm not the only one burning gas and trudging all over town trying to find something, anything.

Are you kidding me?

HOW do you think that you had ANY RIGHT to them even if you were standing in front of them???? WHAT ##$%$#ation allows for that type of thinking LOL!

This is absurd!

I had a guy email me from ebay because I bought a 2007 Jet Pack figure set for $75.00 and cuss me out because they are selling for $265 now..... As abuyer, how is it my fault??

You guys really need a life.. Not the army builders OR SCALPERS!! It'stheir RIGHT to scalp!

Why do you assume he was a scalper? Maybe he wanted two for himself? I mean the pack does have 3 army builders in it. We army builders are a greedy bunch... but that doesn't mean we are scalpers. Or maybe his best friend told him to pick one up for him if he saw it... You never know man. I know it is irritationg to just miss a twoy you want but give the guy some slack. He is not nessicarily the scum of the earth because he bought both packs.

WHAtever.....Then if you want to build your mighty toy army go online.....save the figures for the rest of us....

Why should he leave just one?????? The reason he started this post is because he is frustrated.....like me and a bunch of us. Some of us out there have only seen wave one once!!!! Then we here reports of wave 2 being out and wave 3 and cant find anything.....because some jackass that has to buy all the damn figures....Then we se pics of said figures but no its not a pic of one beachhead.....but freaking 3 or 4...from same said person. This is bull....I buy one figure of each. If you want your mighty army then go online..buy from there....since you support buying 3 of the same figures. I hope your wife leaves you for spending the money on toys.....then you and your army of cobra troopers and your army of beachheads can al sleep together and you can keep warm by throwing your plastic in the flame..Leave some for the rest of us and stop being greedy

I had the EXACT same experience few yrs ago. Just as I was getting to the boys toys section at Walmart, saw a guy buying 4 packs Spy Troops Viper/AV army builder pack. He was kinda reluctant to give me 2. So all I got left were the NeoViper/NV Commander pack x4 to buy so I bought all them.

I kinda wished he picked some Neo Viper pack but the whole case or 2 of Viper/AV packs.

I dont know if thats the scalper mentality of picking up 4 of the same packs.

Then you can jst tell your son "Sorry you missed out" "Theyll make more Im sure"........

A couple weeks back, I went to a Wal-Mart looking for 25th wave 2. I got there literally 10 seconds after a fellow collector had picked up the one case that had been put on the pegs, which made me sick since I'd hit 12 stores that day looking for them, only to miss out by such a small margin.

So I started talking to the guy. Turns out, he was buying them for a 2nd set, and he was an army builder, so he really wanted the Trooper. I offered him $50 (I was literally that tired of looking for them, and I spent far more than that in gas trying to find them) to let me grab Serpentor and Beachhead, since I'd already found Buzzer and Lady Jaye and he really needed the Trooper. He was quite shocked that I'd offer that much just for the chance to buy two figures, but we kept talking and he said he wouldn't do it because that's way too much money and he'd feel bad about it. So I told him that, since he needed the Trooper and Officer that was left on the peg as well, I'd pay for those for him if he'd let me have Beachhead and Serpentor. If he was willing to let me grab those two, I wouldn't take no for an answer. So we both walked out happy in the end.

If you really want something and you see someone walking by with it in their hands, just stop them and talk to them for a minute, and see if you can work something out. Sure, it cost me $10 more than I'd planned, but trust me, I saved much more than that in gas, and I still haven't seen them in stores since.

And as an aside, I have a funny scalper story. The first Wally World I went to that day had full pegs of TF movie deluxe figures, and a fat guy with a handlebar 'stache and a mullet raced up in front of me and loaded his cart up with every single '08 Camaro Bumblebee in the lot. Literally cut in front of me and parked his cart between me and the figures. Like 8 Bumblebees went into the cart. I just chuckled when I saw how afraid he was that I was going to get there first.

Then I drove to the one down the road a few miles and they had the same thing. Like 8 Bumblebees right there on the pegs. I figured the guy was coming there next, so I stashed them all randomly behind crap in the department before I left. As I was walking away from toys, he rounded the corner and raced past me toward the TFs. I hung around and watched him go through all the pegs and leave empty-handed and disappointed. Then I put all the Bumblebees back on the pegs and left. Yeah, scalpers suck, but try to have some fun with 'em!

Couldn't you have jumped on eBay and paid that much and still get a few more?

That's exactly what I would say. I try not to sugar coat things like that. Instead of letting him have a fit, I'd simple tell him "Theyll make more I'm sure".

See how easy that is?? @smilepunch@

Plus, I think you're missing the point. The gentleman buying the packs may have wanted them for his own- not to resell them.

Yeah, I could. But any good negotiator, especially one who can tell he's talking to a decent person, knows to just throw out a ridiculous number to get stuff going and then settle on something a little more acceptable after you've established a rapport. Honestly, though, I would've paid it. I don't like waiting on stuff to ship, not knowing if it's going to arrive in good condition (especially Joes. I received a broken Duke V1 a few years back, never forgotten that.) or at all, and also I had the cash on me, but nothing in my paypal or bank account. So yeah, I could've waited, but I didn't want to. I've got OCD that way.

Yes someone buy this man a beer or two.........and give him a gold star.....By the way I jumped of the handle because Im frustrated in this searching.....Im having problems with the Star wars figures also....I just get sick of watching some of you talk about how you find these Figures....when my Wally Worlds (2) and the Targets here (4) never have these in stock.....or they get them in and put them out by 8 AM and by 810 they are gone. Seems to me that Hasbro knows that these figures are selling and refuse to do anything about it. Send more cases to the stores for petes sake...I even called thier customer service center and she said she would pass my complaints on....which I know she didnt. I should be able to walk into a store at anytime and the figures should be there......but they have no problem stocking Spiderman 3 toys.......or My Little Pony. As Crappy as Serpenter looks to me....I still wish I could see one on the aisle......I think Im done collecting Joes and Star Wars......All the gas Ive waisted searching could have fueled a 747.....

I feel you. I've been trying like hell to find a McQuarrie Vader, and I've yet to see any traces of him. The rest of the line is everywhere, though. I found a Darth Malak at TRU, but some idiot had bent the card seven ways to Sunday, so being that I'm primarily a MOC collector, it was worthless to me. I understand that's a common practice to keep people from selling or scalping them or whatever. Just once, I wish I could catch someone in the act. There'd be a misunderstanding.

As far as Hasbro's production goes...I said it in another thread, but I'll reiterate it here. They're having to play a LOT of catch-up right now because they were caught completely unaware by the demand for Transformers movie toys, so a good chunk of their production is going into that area right now. It seems to have caught up, since I'm seeing fresh shipments of those almost daily everywhere I look, so hopefully their Joe and Star Wars shipments will follow suit. Don't give up yet.

that has to be the CRAZIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!

WHY???? what if he would have wanted the $50.00 You would have done it? B.S.!!! go to ebay buy the figures for $9.99 each and pay the guy to ship them express!!! you would have SAVED money.

what you did IS NOT NEGOTIATING!! It is Pathetic...I do not mean to offend you either. However, were you to come up to me like that I would NEVER give you the figures just for being so weak...Were someone to wait their turn, i would probably leave a set of figures. But is the ybother me by asking for items that I might buy...NOPE!! I'm trotting off to the check-out.

Scalpers are pathetic but so are GROWN men who cry about not finding a fiigure when you can save time and money by buying from a dealer on ebay. Shipping and Gas all equal out!

Holy CRAP! I thought this board had Soooo much more common sense than this.

Yo, thanks for your opinion. Glad I didn't ask for it. I don't really care what you would or wouldn't do if I came up to you, because chances are it would never happen. It's very much outside of the norm for me to even consider offering the guy what I did, but the truth is that this was at the end of a long day of work in addition to hitting every conceivable store out on my route in the 100-degree, 100% humidity weather, and to be quite honest, it was much easier for me to offer him what I did to get the dialogue started (I'm a retired salesman, after all) and end up only $10 poorer than I would've been had I found the figures before he did. What I saved in gas is a hell of a lot more than $10. And, if he would've taken the $50 offer, I would've given it to him. I offered him the deal, why would I back out of it? I'm not hurting for money. My bills were taken care of for the month, I had more than enough in my wallet to cover the offer and, not that it's any of your business, but that was preferable to me than going on eBay because I could see what I was buying instead of taking some dude's word that what I bought was in mint condition.

What you obviously failed to comprehend is that I was in no way "crying" about not finding them. I just told the guy straight up that if he'd make my life a little easier by letting me grab some figures he already had, I'd compensate him for the trouble. He did, and I did. It's a simple business arrangement, nothing more, nothing less. I'm glad to see you're mature enough to actually understand what I did and not write a moronic, poorly-written message attacking me for obtaining something I wanted through a means that was beneficial to both myself and the person I arranged the deal with. Oh, wait.

Hey!For once I agree with ARROW,he's 110% right on that comment about Collectors serving themselves FIRST before others.

I'm also with the group that will buy multiples and if I got a pair of Cobra Legion packs and someone asks them if I need them both at the store...I have no problem saying "Yes". I would even say "Yes" if I had 3 of them...maybe at 4 I'd be willing to give one up but to be honest I have spent so much time, money (for gas), and gas to try and find this new stuff that I'm not about to give anything I find up so readily. Maybe in some areas they're all over the place...but here in Northern Virginia...they're NOWHERE.

I can honestly say that if I saw 2 cases of GI Joe 25th Wave 2 or 3 figures on the shelves...I'd buy them all and have no hesistation in turning away anyone who asked for them...

I was at Toys R' Us and bought about 4-5 Cobra 5-Packs (the 1st one) and one of the TRU employees straight-up asked me if I was putting them up on eBay and I told him right back that I wasn't because I collect them. Those packs are still all with me and I will probably NEVER put them on eBay.

WHY?????? Why would you buy 4 of those? I could understand 2 (one to open....one to play with (whatever) ) Thats greed pour and simple!!! If they really are no where to be found where you live....you just screwed another collector over because your greedy!!! These things are hard to find and you just have to have 4......you make me sick. Id give anything to find just one. They should put a limit on the amount you can buy.....Because Pokiman (gotta catch em all) here needs to just be that guy. Why dont you take one of those 5 packs and put it p your ......
