I have less problem with Cobra Commander's origin being altered to being similar to Destro's, or even Destro heading Cobra. But after reading "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives..." I just can't quit thinking, WHAT... THE... #$##.

I love how the press statment is written in a way like their telling us what GiJoe now stands for is something cool and supposed to be impressive.

 

Most nations are sitting out of the real war going on now comfortably hiding behind the U.S. with their heads in the sand but bitching about the U.S. the entire time. Now these Hollywood sell outs are going to become international #$#*@ to these same nations and make it a global integrated force....please.

This idea of Destro being in charge is an abomination. If I were in charge of Hasbro the second a writer came to me with a script in which anybody other than Cobra Commander is the main bad guy they would of fall through a trap door into a pit of pirannahs. I mean having Cobra Commander being the head of Cobra is a non-brainer. You don't have to be a Joe nerd like us to complain about this either. Everyone that knows anything about G.I. Joe is going to be bitching. Cobra Commander has made appearnces on Family Guy and Robot Chicken. He's a pop culture icon. Having him playing second fiddle to Destro is crap.

True, but maybe Cobra Commander will be "behind the scenes". I wouldn't really have a problem with that, I guess.

 

Costume designs and casting is going to be a big factor for this movie... And I really hope Kamakura isn't in it.

Screw the movie guys, what about the movie figures? They already suck and they haven't even been made yet. All I can picture is the Street Fighter GI Joe style figures. Uhhh I think I'm gonna puke...

I think it sounds really cool. I am not emotionally tied to having a live action rendition of the same story I saw as a child. I am more interested in a cool new take on the concept, which to me is an elite strike force versus an evil terrorist organization, and this idea sounds to me to have the exact spirit to carry out the concept and characters perfectly.

 

can't wait to hear more. I am excited!

its sad, but the Cartoon at least represented the whole idea of Joe, Joe vs. Cobra.

not some hair brained script meant to... not represent the MOST BASIC idea of this

long lasting toy contuinum.

 

 

it boggles me, thats like if Transformers was Optimus vs. Starscream... thats not the way you do it, you dont make a movie and base it on a sequel, unless you wrote a 9hr movie.

 

the first movie has to represent the most original idea of the story.

 

 

A: Duke and G.I.Joe Versus, Cobra led by Cobra Commander, backed by Destro and the Crimson Twins.

 

doesnt matter what stupid adventure it is, it could be, Cobra builds an Arc, and temps to flood the world, as long as it sticks to A:, then its a G.I.Joe movie.

 

or even Big brawler goes to the Zoo, as long as A: is there, its a movie.

not having A: means its not a Real G.I.Joe adaptation. im not big fanboi, but i respect the

story of joe enough to be pissed off at the idea Hasbro its Maker wants to do it half assed.

Well, Destro could be the leader of a criminal group that deals in arms, then cobra commander comes in, subverts it and turns it into a terrorist group. Just as long as it isn't that "script" I read awhile ago(the one with Cobra Commander being Dukes best friend until some accident then a few genetic experiments). I couldn't delete that off my computer fast enough.

 

As for turning G.I.Joe into an international group, dissapointing but not surprising. I guess they feel that it will be easier to market the movie overseas that way. At least the director isn't Uwe Boll, so thats a step up.

I wouldn't mind if Destro is the main villian in the film, as long as Cobra Commander is a behind the scenes "Blofield" type villian pulling the strings. Much like Thunderball where Largo was the main villian, but wasn't head of Spectre.

Star Wars was a good movie and Darth Vader and Tarkin were in control ON SCREEN until Jedi really. So if Destro is the field commander then I think I can let that one slide. I'm not sure I like that they have given him Major Bludd's personality though. Destro was/has been fairly honorable throughout the Marvel Run of comics at least that is what they tried to portray at several parts. So if Cobra Commander is mentioned then I can probably be ok with it.

 

I'm not thrilled that Joe is abandoning it's heritage as the Real AMERICAN Hero, but I don't mind some international flair...As long as they don't take current AMERICAN Joes/Characters and transplant them with folks from other nations.

 

For example...use Glenda or Quarrel...but don't make Scarlett from France...use the entire Oktober Guard, but don't make Snake Eyes from Outer Mongolia. That kind of change would ruin the movie for ME.

 

I just hope although they are distancing themselves from "War Movie" the joes still get to carry guns and that the X Men reference wasn't a hint that Joes will all now have super powers...

I like that idea and hope they take that approach... I don't think we need to worry about them getting superpowers - I just think they're using it as a basis for making a "team" movie. I can't imagine they're abandoning CC completely - probably setting up for a sequel from the start.

 

Hmm, maybe they've been reading my posts - I always said that the formula for a successful GI Joe movie would be to combine X-Men and James Bond... although there needs to be a healthy dose of Rainbow Six to get the proper military aspect right.
