no love for SF figs anymore? just got SFP ryu and ken...

I think SOTA's character selection polls were a great idea to keep communication between the fans and the company strong, but it gave the company another few months or so to sit on their @$$ as they waited for the poll to end. They should've just made the choices themselves instead of sitting around...that time from the polls could've really helped in getting the figures out closer to the original release date.

It's all been said before so I won't repeat it, but SOTA has basically dug their own grave. While the Gouken figures are great for fans, I think Jerry did it because he knew he was jumping off a sinking ship and really had no qualms about it. Considering SOTA's financial state at that time (and who knows how they are now)...no CEO/Owner/President would have made the decision to create a figure with such a short turn-around and expect to make a profit off a figure that was more widely known to fans of the series ONLY.

As for the Darkstalkers figures....I was excited at first but now I don't care...kind of like the Street Fighter line. Back when SOTA first showed the figures...the Morrigan figure they showed was certainly one of the BEST designed female figures I had ever seen. But at this past SDCC they showed some *NEW* Morrigan that looks like a Jazwares figure or something.

I still have some SOTA SF figures but I really have no interest in the line at all anymore. I am happy for the fans, and I thought about getting the Preview figures of Ken & Ryu but I heard too many stories about bad paint (which I am a stickler for) and other issues...so I passed and I am passing on SF altogether unless they got something that wow's me.

True about the delay the polls cause. Never realized that before, but you are right. It takes approx a year to make a toy from concept to retail. I think that is why major toy companies rarely do polls unless they know the results like how Hasbro set up a faux poll for the 20 anniversay line; the winner, Optimus, was actually in development for three years before the poll was made.

I agree with your sinking ship theory since it seems more believeable than the "official reason " the old Sota president gave us. I mean, SOTA is a relatively new company that apparently had connections with Palisades and other bankrupted toy companies. Because SOTA is a small company that has been around for 3? years as an independent toy company that is controlled by someone who I assume is new in managing distribution and production of toys (I think selling toys is different than sculpting toys for other companies or sculpting props for Hollywood), I am sure there was lots of common mistakes a new company would make to win over its fans. Besides, the official reason we get seems contradictary to what he have seen. Doesn't make sense to me that someone would leave a company because of not having time to direct and then go around and make another toy company months later. Seems more like the guy wanted to start fresh with more realistic and managable goals than being in one that seems to be on its last legs. I mean, we never heard another person about the company's situation since they didn't seem open to talk about it and the reasons we do hear, are from the previous owner, who seems to place blame on stuff outside of SOTA. I am quite suprised on how often SOTA changes its spokesperson even after they have a new CEO.

I too no longer care about the line. However, because I am only missing figures in the entire run (if you count the p1 regular figures and not those exclusives and repaint variants,) I am still goin to collect the ssf2 cast, Guy, and maybe Rika, but as for me to go back to purchase p1 Ryu (I only have the old e. Ryu) and gettin that convention Dan is doubtful.

i've been backtracking and picking up the earlier figs. so far they're incredible. personally, i think previews ryu and ken look great standing next to guile, sagat, bison, adon, gen, sakura, and balrog.

the ONLY fig i had QC issues with is previews akuma. after reading a couple of posts on another forum, it would appear that i'm not the only one. it's surprising really, considering how ryu and ken are basically the same body as akuma, and yet his joints are looser and just feels....fragile.

everyone else though...having a blast just looking at them.

as for Sota and financial troubles...well, i'm hoping with new management and not releasing a ridiculous amount of variants, the revolutions line will bring them back to glory.

l heard that the previews are bad. If I ever get them, I will get preview Ryu since I love his head sculpt

seriously man, the previews are amazing. they're the ones that got me started on collecting the toys. only akuma is the black sheep.

as for ryu, i'll say it again. i never got round 1's ryu. because i never liked how he looked, i didn't get the rest of them.

now that i have previews ryu, my SF collection is growing.

I only got the previews exclusive shin akuma, which is essentially the same fig as the previews reg akuma. That figure is by far on my top 3 fav figs of sotas SF line. I had no problem with him, paint was good, joints were good, everything was awesome. I never heard that the previews akuma was bad at all.

I want to get the previews ryu and ken because i was never fully happy with the ryu and ken that was originally released. I ve so far bought every unique sf fig theyve released. I dont like the first ryu's headsculpt that much. The majority of the figures style and appearence were all based off of the street fighter alpha art and design yet the ryu and ken just felt like they wre more sf2-esque.

I just got a reply email from sota to send my dan figure back to get a new one. I hope its better, but from what ive heard in a previous post, it seems those same problems were not unique to just my dan. :(

I meant bad quality wise since ppl have been sayin how they tend to break and fall apart moreso than round1-4, which has that problem to a bit lesser extent.

Personally, I too didn't like round 1 Ryu, which is why I never got the p1 version. My reasons are probably the same as yours since I did not like the headsculpt for that Ryu; he looks caucassian and not asian, no offense. I also do not like round 2 Ken for looking like a guy who is wearing a wig; the headsculpt looks nothing like the art they based the head off of, which is from the character protrait in the gba version of SSF2T. The preview Ryu is close to how he looks in SF3, which is why I like that headsculpt. However, I do not know if I want a figure who is bigger than most of the sf cast. Anyone have images of the head of PRyu on R1 Ryu's body?

I am actually happy there are other ppl who feels the same way as me because I thought I was the minority. I mean I know ppl have their own opinions and all, but when the line was new and I mention how bad Ryu and Ken are, ppl on this forum would attack me, saying none of the Sota sculpts are bad, but all are the best ever. Still, a few would attack my opinions today. I think it is biasness more than anything else in that there is no fault in the Sota line; like every toyline out there, there are goin to be some bad ones, including Toybiz/Marveltoys. Why should Sota be any different?

I never like Round 1 Ryu and Ken since they looked nothing like the way they are drawn even though they have been drawn by different artists with different styles. However, the core elements that each character possessess in facial features, remains similar. Sadly, neither R1 Ryu and R2 Ken have that.

As for your last sentence, you are correct. I do not know which art Ryu is based off of, but R2 Ken is obviously based on the Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival game for the Gameboy Advance; the hair looks just like the art and both the art and toy have sideburns even though the latter has it painted on. Other than that art, Ken rarely, if not never, had sideburns.

Unforunately, Sota made the hair too small.

Are they all really HUGE like Dan? I might order a Ryu and Akuma (missed out on 'em the first time around) if they're not too big....

If you are referring to the previews ryu ken and akuma figs they are big. They are all reusing series' 4 akumas body which was already fairly large compared to the series 1 and 2 ryu and ken. Dan uses the exact sculpt as well.
